1088XLD - Custom A8 Computer in 1050 Drive Case
rockdoc2010 replied to mytek's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I just fired up my 1088XLD and I get a eight note musical rif but my screen is blank. Color filled, one color adjustable by the pot, but nothing is loading from U1MB. I hear a slight sound when I hit F12 or F11 but I am getting no action on the screen. Its a great looking single color screen btw. I used Sdrive max on my XEL in order to do all of it's updates; U1MB firmware, XEL-CF3, and SdosX but I am stuck on the 1088XLD. I have changed out Sally Antic Pia And GTIA and the SRAM MIDI works and color renditioning of the background works but I get no boot up. No beeps other than the midi intro tune Any suggestions -
1088XLD blank color screen but no boot up
rockdoc2010 replied to rockdoc2010's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Nope I was wrong. I looked closer and saw that I had an older version of the U1MB software installed in the XEL. Swapped again and found the correct version in that board. Woo Hoo! No bad U1MB. Sooooo there is an issue that tells the U1MB to boot up the OS that is inherent to my 1088XLD motherboard. Rockdoc2010 -
1088XLD blank color screen but no boot up
rockdoc2010 replied to rockdoc2010's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well I verified that it most likely the U1MB. When I took out my U1MB from the 1088XLD and plugged into my 1088XEL I got the same full screen issue. I thought I was putting back the original into the XEL and thought I killed my XEL. I put the other U1MB back into my XEL and my system boot to spartados 4.49 WOO HOO it aint dead! So now I just need to pull the plcc from the bad U1MB and send it off to get reprogrammed. Assuming I can find a suitable vendor. Thank you for your time! Rockdoc2010 -

well this kinda sucks. Powered up my XEL for the first time and I got nothing. I do have 5vdc in all the right spots, but i have no video at all. Using composite at the moment but no joy. I swapped out my U1MB and my Sally and my rom and my GTIA and still nothing. placed a jumper at OSC but nothing. Douglas -

As it turns out when i opened up my happy drive J6 was in fact off of its plug my one pin. I am unaware as to what J6 does due to a loss of all my tech data. The plug was towards the front of the drive by one pin.

That's great thanks.. The square pad is the deal. The socket was inserted 180 out. SRAM on the way
-
Hey do you know if this is the proper orientation for the HART chip? The socket is reversed but the square pin is under pin one as this photo expresses.

Thank you very much I am currently clearing the holes of solder for a socket for the one 8k chip which will be replaced. Kinda wondering why the power up sequence don't work if you have a bad ram chip? Wouldda thought a controller chip..
