  1. I thought we had a pretty good thread on it here.

that's from way back when it was demo'ed. not that it was really a demo, and I still call BS on what I saw. but the technology could be real, I just don't believe it will look/work nearly as well as anything shown.

Thats cool. Like I said, I figured it's old news. Thanks for the link man! Gonna read more on it.

  2. On youtube I saw this new Xbox venture being developed. Full body motion and voice recognition for game play. No controllers at all. It's new to me, probably old news to everyone else.

Looks interesting. Just trying to dig up more info...anyone else know or heard anymore about this "project"?

    Says "Holidays 2010"

  3. It's probably a pretty good "average" top 10 list.

Growing up, on that list I had Space Invaders, Kaboom, River Raid, Adventure, Missle Command, Pitfall and Pacman.

I had a couple of other games too, but from that list, hitting 7 of those 10 is pretty good.

Combat probably not counted as it was (at least with my Atari) a pack-in game. No reason to buy it if I had it already.

(the other games that completed my back-in-the-day library...Space Shuttle, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Airlock, Outlaw, Basketball, Football, Video Olympics)

  4. I got this over the Holidays for the PS3. I am experiencing frame rate problems as well.

Cut scenes and gameplay. Except during game play, the music score cuts in and out. Annoying. So, as listed by others above, I too have not been impressed by this game.

Just got the PS3 too and thought great, some new system!

So, its normal to experience frame rate problems? I've noticed a couple other (PS3) games doing it too.

I dont really remember my 360 having frame rate problems before. If it did, they were so minimal I must not have noticed like I do/did with Dragon Age Origins.

  5. it looks like how my room is now... a BIG mess icon_mrgreen.gif

haa haaa! Yeah! And it was alot of fun getting it to that level. Many o' pints of Guinness and single malt whiskeys were sampled that evening!

  6. I found this photo today and had to share.

A few months back a old buddy of mine and I re-connected. We had a good time with spirits and gaming. We started with the modern consoles, then moved to the classics. About 3am, I snapped this photo. Enjoy!

  7. Probably others, but the one I that sticks out most is when my folks bought our 2nd Atari. My first Atari was stolen when our house was broke into. I was like 9 or 10 and we went to (some store I cant remember) to get a new Atari. While looking, some other customer asked my dad if he wanted to buy his...he was selling his Atari (and probably at better deal than retail price)

So, we left the store and went to this guys house. To make sure it worked, this guy fires it up, and puts in Combat.

"I'm pretty good at this, just so you know." the guys tells me as he hands me a joystick. I smile and just nod my head. He hits the "reset" switch and we're off.

I drive out and give him the first shot, for free. I think he laughed a bit under his breath. "Thats good enough" I thought to myself, because I then, as they say - handed him his ass. He never got a chance to score another point. He flipped to to Bi-Planes. Mistake. It was even worse for him.

Frustrated, he killed the power and handed the Atari over to my dad. It was great!

  8. If there is a thread already on this, could someone please provide links?

I was given a PS3 that will not operate the game discs. The browser works, just wont play games.

If I look for a ebay drive replacement, does the "wont work because the drive works in conjunction the motherboard" problem arise?

Or is a straight swap doable?

The drive is out of the console right now. Is there a number or something I should look for or what kind of drive to replace, or are they all the same?

  9. Just got Viking. It's like Conan.

If you like hack and slash adventures, this is more of that. I'm usually clicking laps on my bike in the latest MotoGP games, but something about swinging a sword and axe for Valhalla's sake seems to fit the mood lately.

Best game ever? No. But when the combos are done correctly, you get to do some cool finishing moves on your foes. That gives ample blood flow, and brings a smile :)

  10. I actually kind of liked Pacman 2 and got very far in it until at one point it got too frustrating. I cant remember when.

Nowadays I usually play and replay the following: Super Castlevania, Prince of Persia, Act Raiser and any fighter type game like Final Fight, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse or Street Fighter III.

I have the X-men game...get to that pretty soon.

So what game would you advise if I'm looking for a 2 player (team not VS) side scroller beat 'em up?

  11. Next...

    Pacman 2: The New Adventures

Pacman 2 is one of the most unique titles of the day, and you get a code to play Pac-man and Ms Pacman on there to (MSPCMND...I think, been tolong) Anyhow, all my friends thought it sucked back in the day, cause it's an atypical game, more akin to one of those Tomogatchi things, only it's fun and has an actual point to it.

Great game, not very long, but I bet you'll waste quieta few hours on that one :P

Well cool! Yeah, I plan on giving it a go. I have no instructions for any of these games. So online resources and good 'ol fumbling around will be my game.

I'll have to try that code out. Pretty groovy to have those games hidden in there!

  12. This weekend my sister brought over a sack of SNES titles. She knew I'd playing the SNES lately, and has not touched hers in a long while. The Zombies game is hers too. So, she brought them over for me to check out.

I grabbed the bag, reached in, and pulled out...Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday.

I groaned at first. And even started to put it back for "another try" at my first selection. But, I stayed true, and put it in the SNES.

Ok. So, its a pretty lame game. I decided to spend some time with it anyway instead of just brushing it off as a bad, boring game. And, you know what, it's an okay game. Its fun at times, frustrating at others, but overall okay. I not very far into it, so I'll play it more I'm sure. But, I'm glad it was free...not purchased.

I like the little touch they added if you dont move Porky after awhile. He fidgets, then theres a little animation where it looks like he wigs out with fear in the typical Looney Tunes fashion. It made me giggle.

    Next...

    Pacman 2: The New Adventures

  13. I'm not crazy about Top Gear 3000, though its a quality game.

For me, my favorites have been Lotus 1-2-3 and the spirtual sequel to those, Top Gear 1. Its been downhill from Top Gear 2 onwards, though theres been many good games (Neither of the SNES sequels in particular are bad games, they're just not as good in my opinion as the original).

I found Top Gear 2 yesterday. Jumps, spin outs, buying upgrades...all cool features, but I agree...Top Gear 1 still is the better game. Still, we ripped it up and had fun with TG2, but there was something about TG1 that we both liked better.

Also picked up Chase HQ. Not bad, but only fun in short bursts. Crashing into your targets to pull them over is always fun! Didnt the arcade version allow a 2nd player to shoot at the enemy? To much info to ask of the SNES I guess?

My sister is bringing over Zombies Ate My Neighbors tonight. Should be an entertaining weekend!

  14. It's been awhile. I'd say a good 3+ years since any electricity ran thru the sucker. Anyway, the other night my Wife said she had not played Clay Fighter in a really long time. So, I hooked the SNES up, and we had at it.

For what it is and not taking anything seriously, we had a ball. Tactics like the usual armchair banter and the occasional "shove" to distract your opponent's concentration were the norm. We squared off against each other trying all the different characters in all the different battle rings. Great fun.

After enough punching and kicking at each other, we decided to race. So, I thru in Top Gear, which she promptly kicked my ass in the first race. Throttle, nitros, manual transmission, I have to say...not having played this in awhile, for me, it really holds up. A fun little racer title, which I had trouble putting down. I think we blasted something like 5 or 6 races before we called it quits.

Normally, after I hook up an older console, I dismantle everything and put away until we're ready for another "go". But, we had so much fun, I think I'm going to leave it out for awhile and try some other games. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is next.

Any SNES titles calling your names lately?

  15. I wasn't a fan of the NES. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a good video game system, but -- right around when the NES came out, I got a Commodore 64 as an 8th-grade graduation present. The graphics and sound were just as good as on the NES, and I figured hey, it's a computer -- it's a lot easier to make games for a computer than it is to make games for a cartridge-based video game console (then again, I never learned how to program games), so I figured a computer was the way to go. Also, it used my Atari joysticks, so that was a plus. (And sorry, but you can't play Crossroads on a Nintendo. :) )

I'm into the NES now more than I was back in the day. Mostly just because of the thrift finds today. But I was in the same boat. I moved from my 2600 to a VIC-20 to the C-64. I remember COMPUTE magazine, and typing all those codes (free programs) printed in the back pages.
