  1. Talking about "crappy" compilations: Crazy Cars 1 , mentioned, from compilation missing title screen, but soundtrack with it too - actually, there is space for title pic, but not for much longer audio, so they just dropped both (why to bother much). As I see, in most compilations, most of games is complete, together with all audio, pictures etc. So, it is good to have their dumps. And even some not compilation, but 'stand alone' releases may miss some parts. Like On Safari - It is Safari Guns (as stays at game begin) - on 1 DS floppy. But because original S.G: is on 1DS and 1SS they needed to drop something - and it was title soundtrack of course (side B of first floppy). And title pic is not shown too, even if file is there on floppy (again lack of interest). I would like to see another, similar game: Wild Life , complete - title soundtrack exists in one crack, but begiining is corrupted (will not say here, which). Because of similar problems, and few bad STX dumps + bad originals, I became little paranoid, and tend to get multiple images, for case.
  2. People usually forgets something very important: Amiga has real expansion bus, unlike ST(E). STE is only better because has RAM sockets. So, any CPU, IDE, RAM and similar upgrade needs serious soldering - unless you solve it with some intermediate sockets (like this IDE adapters, still unknown state of development, only pic shown). There are already projects online, like Popsel board for STF machines + IDE for Mega STE via VME connector. But simply, not possible to do some universal solution. With good CPU bus expansion port it would be much better. Only Mega ST has it, and I have on my site complete docs (SCH, PCB) IDE adapter, for instance. So, I would say that there are many projects for Atati ST serial, but it is not easy to follow all it . And I guess that Satandisks are so popular, despite high price exactly because troubles with internal solutions.
  3. I checked Steel and High Steel with Steem Debugger. None uses STE enhancements. But it may be interesting to know which was the first. Perhaps Whitewater Madness by Atari ?
  4. Surprise ! I expected 2 letters: PC . But actually, there is a lot of computers capable to 'burn' 800KB floppy.
  5. I don't think that game using scrolling is better than game with static screen, just because of scrolling. If transition to next screen is done cleverly, static screen is OK. And discussion above reminded me on Heartland 2000 - it scrolls very well practically full screen. I guess at price of using almost 100% CPU power, so not much left for other things in gameplay. CPU at 8MHz can some 1.6 MB/sec. At 50 fps = about 32KB ~ screen size. With movem may little more - but likely not really usable for scrolling..
  6. I would suggest that go on STE instead ST. It is very compatible with all ST SW too (even if some people did not realise that). And all STEs have internal floppy drive. Expanding RAM in some ST is nightmare. In STE it is very easy, thanks to sockets. Considering writing floppies for ST(E): you can do it with some PC equipped with internal floppy drive - not USB ! Then may use SW specially made for Windows XP and later: http://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php What others suggested: 720K - only good for limited count of SW. ST2DISK is for DOS, not usable in newer Windowses. And I have better experiences with MAKEDISK - another DOS only program. And what you consider as "normal computer" ? Answer me if you can

It took really much time. So, I decided to make some shorter wanted list, at price of not including every game, just more popular ones, and quality ones. Of course, it means that list above is subjective. If you have something not listed here, please check Marakatti's missing Pasti list at Atarimania forum. Now, some philosophy: as I see, some publishers are more 'popular' in missing lists. For instance Rainbow Arts - many of their games is missing. What could be the reason ? Low sales ? Maybe there is people thinking: "I paid it well, so why I should now share with others, who paid not ?" , Certainly there is some logic in it. But it was decades ago. Maybe we should now focus on preserving good old SW instead ... Some people may have disks, but no computer suitable for imaging - I guess that most of them tries to sell (or just to give) those floppies, or plans to get some old Atari. Otherwise, floppies will be lost, for sure after some years - will be unreadable. Please post images to Atarimania - details about are on their forum. Or e-mail to me: [email protected] At same adr. you may ask me whatever is not clear. Or in forum at this site. Thanks to OBO, Jake, MovFan for contributing - some nice titles added ( Safari Guns - complete with title soundtrack , Car-Vup, Black Lamp , Jinxter ) .

Talking about unmodded games. ********* Not working on STE: This includes not TOS version caused problems, only games writing to bad locations. Note: some games may fail on 4MB machines because lame code. Many of cracks fail on higher TOS versions, so please test with original or Pasti images if possible. Really not working: Hyperforce - overshot in palette writing loop Grand Monster Slam - overshot in palette writing loop Nightdown - writing to Screen pointer does nothing on ST, on STE bus error. Total 3 games found so far - not solveable by changing TOS vers., RAM setting or similar. I made fixed versions of them, and it means changing only couple bytes. In case of Grand Monster Slam it is done even with STX img. As TOS version caused problem good example is Defender of the Crown: code is not ready for enhanced palette of STE, handled via XBIOS calls. If run under TOS 1.04 on STE it works fine. How to use TOS 1.04 on STE ? See on Floppy Image Runner site. Making complete list of originals not working on regular STE with TOS 1.06/1.62 would take too much time. I guess that over 90% works. TOS 2.05/2.06 (Mega STE) : I guess that success rate is under 80%. What helps in case of problem: Try another crack. Try running from AUTO folder. Use specialised SW for setting machine to act as having only 512KB (or 1MB) RAM. Install TOS 1.04 in RAM.
  9. Is this side effect of Worldwide crysis ? I mean nobody (game publisher firm for instance) won't invest in something like this ? And I don't get why 150000 $ ? For polishing ?
  10. Why I can not edit my posts? I mean after more than 1 hour ...
  11. Not sure about STOS updates for STE. Likely not - it was not updated for later TOS versions, at least not officailly. I digged yesterday little in compilations at AM. Found some missing STX images (like SWIV) - but they won't include compilation based images in main base, even if they are exaclty same os original release Anyway, meanwhile I saw 2 cases where stays: not STE c. So, I checked it, expecting that it will be not exactly true ... Kenny Dalglish Soccer Manager (some football compil.): it works on STE under TOS 1.04 . Total Eclipse (Virtual Worlds by Domark) : actually, that version will crash even on ST with TOS 1.04. With TOS 1.02 works, on STEs too. The reason is very stoopid bug in launcher (what is slightly modded original one, for menu). The real reason is of course lack of careful testing. This, and some other examples can explain why AM dislikes compilations (other reason may be that sometimes title pic missing, or other cutting. )
  12. Some people had (and maybe still have) multinorm monitors capable for color and mono too. Then, many use emulators, and just want to see how it looks in mono. And few has only mono monitor currently. On Falcon, TT you can set ST-high res (mono) on color monitors, and see how it looks. - Well, works mostly only after some patching in game and with special launcher.
  13. http://dev-docs.atariforge.org/ And google is at hand too I did all in past without Internet - only using Atari ProfiBuch and some memory documentations.
  14. I'm sorry, but going into too much generalisation leads usually nowhere ... If you want to say that cracks usually screw up mono playability, or miss mono files, give some examples. Even some fancy intro, made only for color must not crash in mono mode - you will just see some garbage, but can go on. Same stays for Stargliders: some cracks work even not on color system (on certain machines). Because region restrictions. And it is not emulator problem for sure. Just problem of confusing things. Honestly, I made this lists because beeing tired of usual shallow lists and guessings instead testings. And it took pretty much time. People make most mistakes when try to get why something happens. With Atari games things are just complicated. Too much really stoopid coding - like Player Manager (Anco) - original crashes after little play on 4MB machines. Just pitty.
  15. I disagree. Most of cracks will work in mono. Only in rare cases they removed mono related files. But second statement may be true - I do mono support by hard disk adapts - although not from beginning, so some older ones may not work.
  16. Old MMUs work fine with 2 or 4MB. I had couple 520 STs, and all worked with 2MB RAM well. Check again all your connections, solderings. And possible too that some chip is faulty. Or you soldered bad some adress line. Of course, it is easier to replace MMU chip - but I bet that error is somewhere else. And you need to buy that chip.
  17. EPAL benefit is best visible in gradients - horizon for example. Check some games like Fire and Ice with Hatari set to ST and then to STE. EPAL self is of course compatible, as all others are too. If no bugs in code and TOS version is not problem. But I gave one case where EPAL combined with TOS version can make problems. All real incompatibilities (3 cases listed) are because code bugs - writing in HW scroll register because palette writing code having too much cycles. See HW reg adresses, and will understand. Testing on ST indicates not any errors, because overshot writes 'in empty' .
  18. That was intended to be joke, but I still expect that list . Just pointed that most of people like some graphic too.
  19. I don't know about MMU type not supporting 2MB of RAM. IMP brand supports not 2.5 MB (will see only 2 then) - that's what I expereienced. I guess that problem is somewhere else. Ops. You can not expand from 1MB to 2MB just like that. 1MB uses both banks. Only way is to replace whole RAM with 1Mb chips (instead 256Kb ones). It may be done by leaving original chips in board, but deactivationg them by connecting all CAS/RAS/WR lines to high. And adding board with 2MB RAM - but max 16 chips total. I have one. Considering IDE for 1040/520 ST: http://atari.8bitchip.info/aidesch.htm
  20. Right. I remove Zorks too. And let you to make txt only adv. list, so I can add it to main list - you are obviously more familiar with txt only games than we kids, which just learn to read
  21. Here is pretty complete list, with 269 titles - and I removed all text only adventures, as it is nonsense to list them here. How to use TOS 1.04 on STE ? See on Floppy Image Runner site. ************************* I need to DL Crackman and Rubicon yet too see them. Considering what ST games work on STE: making some accurate list would take too much time. I say that over 90% of originals and well made cracks will work on STE with TOS 1.06/1.62 . On Mega STE (TOS 2.05/2.06) and STEs with that TOS likely under 80% . With little help - by installing TOS 1.04 in high RAM ratio will go over 99% in both cases. And with simple fixing of bugs in few games ratio will be 100% .A As said already, STE is very compatible with ST.
  23. You can call it missing file or corrupted file - whatever. Since Tetra Quest has raw disk access, not regular filesystem one. And 2 files missing, not just 1 .
  24. Too bad that there is no usage guide for Pasti on it's homesite. I saw some hints in some places, but we really need something better, preferably from author self. I can only suggest that you try with manual settings: instead autodetection try with 2 sides manually set. Fact that game works means not that your floppy is OK 100%. It happens because during gameplay did not reach bad parts of disk. Pasti goes through complete. Although, it should give some warning, I guess.
  25. Thanx Christos. Good to have some other source than Gamebase ST. Gamebase ST: it is really useful compilaton, project. Unfortunately there is a lot of errors, bad infos. They should listen better to user feedback and update it - and I know that there was a lot of error reports. It seems that STE compat/enhanc. related infos are the worst part. Over 20% of data is false. There are some really pathetic errors: like game from 1985 marked as STE only
