I'm not sure where you got your information from but there won't be an XM 2.0, nor will anybody have to send their units back. -->I just meant that I would rather wait for a fully functional and bug-free XM than have to send a faulty unit back (e.g. Microsoft's first XBox 360 units in 2005), that's all. Thanks for the answers GroovyBee.

I would rather wait and get an XM that works than have to ship it back and wait for XM 2.0. I suggest that the Atari Age Store have a section dedicated to the XM-enabled games. 1- Are end users going to be able to shop via the AA store for XM enhanced carts (like Pac Man Plus Pokey and Pokey Kong), or do we have to search the forums and ask the developers for copies? 2- I just bought a 7800 off of Best Electronics. I saw that there may be a power issue for the XM with some 7800 power supplies? Is this an issue with the standard (real) Atari power supplies vs. 3rd party copies, or issues with different 7800s (I know there were different hardware revisions).

Can anyone steer me in the correct direction for the purchase of the SIO2SD? There are so many variations and cases, sellers, cost, and so on. I would prefer one that is the latest version in a case. Just plug and play, if possible.

Yeah, been in and out of the 7800 forum since last Xmas mostly -- now I am back to the 8 bit PCs. Yes, it is amazing to me too (the peripheral expansions).

Thanks Ransom, appreciate it. I just wish Atari would make hardware again. They could have easily done what Apple has done with the Tablet market. Atari had a light pen and a touch tablet in the early 80s. They need to make a new console - something I do not think we'll ever see because the current "Atari" is nothing like the original company that existed from 1972 to 1984. An all-in-one console could be done with 2 slots - one for 5200 and one for 7800/2600. The only problem with this idea are those 5200 controllers. I saw some 3rd parties making all in one systems for the NES, SNES and Sega Master system (3 slots). I think Atari still has a "generational market" they could promote. An all in one 8-bit system of some type with the addition of new technology - even just a DVD drive. That way the kids that grew up with Atari (like me) could bridge the generational gap for our kids - introduce them to the old stuff, yet be able to play modern games on the same system. Namco is doing this just through software -- they have a 30th anniversary PacMan and PacMan Championship Edition games.

"Were you surprised at the distinctive lack of personal jet packs?" --Nice. Actually, I was surprised there were no flying cars yet. And surprised Atari has somehow survived throughout the years in one form or another. Now they just produce games for Apple (iPad, iTouch, etc), and were on Facebook with the Pepsi Throwback (I actually won a FlashBack 2+ system for getting a high score on Yar's Revenge -- I had 9 guys left and killed them all off around 1 million points). Yes, old Atari geek. I found a great Atari sales shop called "Best Electronics". Thanks everyone for the great information and links. It will take some time for me to sift through all of it. Off topic for this forum: I saw that Curt Vendell (responsible for the Flashback systems) has produced an XM upgrade for the 7800 and is starting a new company -- I believe it's the name Bushnell first used when he created Atari. My wife bought a T-shirt for me that has a cassette tape on the front and under it are the words "Master of Obsolete Technology". She also bought a Galaga T-shirt; I guess they are selling retro arcade style T-shirts at places like JC Penney.

OK, so the last time I was really into Atari 8 bit computers was 1986. I have an 800, and 130 XE. The things actually still work, along with 5 /14 inch disks I made in 1984. I was wondering what (new) finished products exist for these machines? I saw an SIO2SD interface among other things. Could someone reply with advice/info and links on how to purchase such things? I did a search on some of them in this forum and didn't receive anything concrete. The only thing I saw were items from Atari Max (a web site even exists). ...Appreciated. -old Atari geezer.

"... and be backward compatible with the 2600" What I meant was that Atari (GCC) should have included the POKEY chip for sound in the 7800 as was done in the 5200/8 bit computers. I did not know this earlier but there is an expansion adapter for the 5200 that enables 2600 game play. What's nice about the 7800 is that it allows many objects to be on the screen at one time without flicker. That's an improvement over the older 8 bit computers like the Atari 800. Yes, the Harmony 2 will be able to play both 2600 and 7800 games.

Thanks for your reply / all the answers. I know the XM will come out next year. Curt is the one who is responsible for the FlashBack systems, right? I actually won one in the FaceBook Pepsi Throwback Atari challenge. I got high score on Yar's Revenge, 1981, Atari 2600. It's a "2 Plus" system - the one you can make into a real 2600 with some mods, although I would just purchase a real 2600.

Hi all, I just purchased a 7800 with an "Expansion Port". I was wondering what all is available for the 7800 as far as 3rd party hardware? I see the XM module is almost done (fits directly into the cartridge slot). Will there be some type of Harmony for the 7800? I know one exists for the 2600 and that one works on the 7800, from what I read (only 2600 games though). I guess the Harmony 2 will allow both 7800 and 2600 games like the discontinued CuttleCart 2? Will the Harmony 2 see the light of day, or is it just in a prototype stage at this point? I saw the CuttleCart 1 and 2 are both discontinued. I was wondering about the "Expansion Port" -- was anything ever made for it (including 3rd party) ? I also have the Atari 800, 800XL, 65 XE and 130 XE as part of this collection (I was an 80s nerd). I found that this 7800 lacks the great sound from the old 800 released in 1979. I am wondering why Atari didn't use the 2600 and the 5200 hardware for the 7800? In other words, continue the great graphics and sound from the 5200 and be backward compatible with the 2600. Centipede on the 5200 is the best home port ever made. Centipede on the 7800 is not as good. I actually play converted 5200 games on my 800. I guess the XM module will transform the 7800 into what it should have been in the first place. Will the XM module affect the older released 7800 titles in any way -- improve them somehow?
