  1. Right. I'm just hoping for 7800 functionality at this point. It will be interesting to see what it does on the Edladdin adaptor. There's room for a pleasant surprise possibly, since Genesis was mentioned in Best's maze-like webpage, and it appears the adaptor is at least able to decode whatever matrixing the jagpad itself is doing. I'll find out in a week or so.
  2. I decided to take the plunge and buy the Best Electronics Jagpad controller adaptor. There's not a lot of specific information I can find on it, so I'll just see what it does. Apparently it's not such a good 7800 solution by itself, according to one report. Hopefully the Seagull might make it work as a proper 7800 gamepad. It seems intended to make the Jagpad function as a 2600 controller, but also states it works as a 7800 and Atari computer/commodore controller. I asked Best if it would work as a Sega Genesis controller. The answer I got back was "it should". Okaaaay. I did find out that the "A" button is mapped to be the Atari ST right mouse button, which I found out is controller pin number 9. This is also button C on a 3-button Genesis pad, so hopefully this thing will work on a Edladdin Seagull as a 7800 gamepad at least. I'll report back here after I get all this stuff and write what I find... I'll give it an A if this adaptor makes a jagpad work as a proper 3-button Genesis controller (with Start), a B if it works as a 7800 with the seagull, and a C if it works as an acceptable 2600 controller.
  3. Heh... Well I guess that's me... But those aren't exactly my reasons. Since it's been asked, here they are... 1) I'm looking for another justification to buy the new Jaguar AA pro controller. 2) I need a gamepad for my 7800 anyway, and I've ordered one of the Edladdin seagull adaptors, and wondered if I could make it work in combination with a Best Electronics jagpad adaptor (which I'm considering). 3) I have big hands.
  4. I was thinking it would be interesting to hook up a Jaguar gamepad to a Sega Genesis. Does one exist? Could it exist?
  5. Got Rikki and Vikki tonight. Wow... Just looking at the package and contents, this is a superb product. Gearing up for a big 7800 experience with an AA order today too

It strikes me as a "Better than NES" game...It feels...IDK, less tiled/less repetitive... Totally an indication of what the 7800 could do.

  6. Thanks for the concise review. You are right... A couple of fixes, mostly with the shooting projectile momentum, and this could have been a great game. Maybe there's a perfect version at the Reef Store that I can play with my kids.
  7. Oh... Hahaha here it is.
  8. Hey cool! Did you get the Star Fox manual too?
  9. Wish this one was done more than any other proto. Maybe some day.
  10. I know there was a limited cart release of this a few years ago. Do you happen to know if the ROM on those carts was more "finished" than the one floating around?
  11. Minor update... Game night was had Friday. F-ZERO made way lower an impression than I expected. Mostly it was the difficulty... I way forgot that this game is intended for gamers who'd cut their teeth on Atari, and spent much of their formative years on the NES. If you don't know the basics of a controller... this game will ceaselessly embarrass you. Me tho... Well I demonstrated by breezing through Mute City I in 1st place, despite a 20 year absence. Okay, so it's one thing to inspire your kids, it's another to be a jerk. Sometimes one is a jerk unintentionally. This was one of those times. Anyway, after my little demo, the controller was passed around between my two kids and the two visiting kids (ages 6, 4, 3 and 2)... All the cars were sad time bombs with a short fuse. Pretty much everyone wanted to stop playing after they'd each had a turn to watch the bewildering Mode 7 smoldering wreckage of their vehicle. Everyone wanted to go back to playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Oh yeah, we played a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. My two-year-old daughter wanted to be Tails the entire time. "Wanted" meaning "delivered ear-splitting screams" if I attempted to take the controller away from her. So the rest of the futon shared Sonic. It was awesome and pathetic at the same time to see my son try to maneuver directly under a robot monkey, so he could jump straight up to knock him out, theoretically. Nine time out of ten, however, he'd walk too far to the left or right and the cyber-monkey would clonk my son with a lobbed coconut. I was trying to be encouraging, but really after watching him over-step back and forth (and either get hit or barely miss) in a constant sequence... Well YOU try to keep from laughing! Hmmm... I think those are the only two games we played. Sorry... The 2600 is currently disconnected while I do a little game center upgrade. You player collectors know how it is. Oh, almost forgot to mention... My daughter, who as I mentioned invoked her screaming seniority to continuously control Tails... She showed an intense side of herself I've never seen (and believe me, she's intense all around). She played with the controller, watched what Tails did, and would occasionally make a cute 2-year-old comment about something she was doing. The whole time with a bemused focused grin on her face. Most of the time, I was reffing Controller 1 (Sonic) amongst the three older boys. So my attention was focused there. Anyway, during a relatively quiet moment while I was sitting still and watching the screen, she stands up, walks up on my lap, and raises her arms up in the air. "I LOVE YOU!" she yells exuberantly and throws her arms around me. Keep in mind she was holding a game controller and is barely 2. This was a soul warming moment, as I'm sure you could understand.
  12. "Kind of good." I like that. I second that also. Although this one surprisingly did not pass the muster with my 2-year-old (cool I can plug my thread here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/274802-atari-with-a-2-year-old/ ) It's funny since even tho this simple game has a kiddie theme it's surprisingly fun for us non-kiddies. If you like this type of thing I also recommend Tooth Invaders for the VIC-20. I happen to be one of those guys with this "jewel"... Although mine's a bit flawed. The previous owner defaced the teeth with a sharpie and blacked one out. I actually think that adds to it a bit personally, despite lowering the resale value.
  13. Pac Man is actually short hand for Particle Man. Is he a dot, or is he a speck? When he's underwater, does he get wet? Or does the water get him instead? Nobody knows.
  14. Currently obsessed with making/fixing lamps and clocks lately.

Indeed. My wife and I inherited a dozen antique birdcages. We're really not into keeping birds, but they make awesome lamps.

@goldleader: I've been considering adding a signature for a long time and that just convinced me.

  15. You know, I just thought about it and I think I probably wouldn't take anything modern... Anything with intangible software that requires a subscription service really turns me off. The Wii store shutting down was a bit of a heartbreak. Since I think of these things as a potential heirlooms rather than disposable entertainment. It's getting worse now since it seems current console designers have moved beyond planned obsolescence and into planned uselessness.
  16. Not too long ago, (well, by my standards... Realistically 14 years ago might be long ago), the only gear one could reliably find in California thrift stores and Goodwills was piles of Mac LCs, Performas and Quadras. Calling these "consoles" is probably a stretch... A case could be made for it by enthusiasts maybe. But the fact is no one really wanted them then. I have doubts the demand has increased significantly, but I haven't checked. I tried to give them a little love and bought a few back then, just for kicks, since I don't think they were ever marked more than $20. Personally I got a little enjoyment from them from a purely old Apple geek standpoint. They never gave me the satisfaction of tinkering with DOS machines from the same era tho. And games were... very macish. None of the "Mac Stack" made my downsizing cut when I moved in '14, so in a sense I felt it was worth a mention in the thread.
  17. Actually I think I was pretty lucky on this one. It was around 20 bucks if I remember correctly. It was just a loose cart tho. I'm not surprised if the price went up a lot in just this short a time. Some of the obscure games have skyrocketed. I couldn't believe I saw Boing listed for over $500 recently.
  18. Thanks for reviewing this game! It's one of my favorites from the "ultra-obscure" camp. I'd like to mention that it is also available as "Cosmic Town" from ITT games. The downside is it's also PAL (for us US collectors), but the upside is the box, cart and label are absolutely beautiful! Also it has a wacky name, and ITT (yeah, THAT ITT) has some storied history to it and fun to own a piece of that. This is the version that I have (if that wasn't obvious). Had to get it sent from Germany and I have to run it through a video converter to play it, but it's worth it since I agree that the game is actually pretty fun (and I'll probably never see an NTSC Bomb cart). Anyway, for me only Bit Corp product can compare to its totally odd yet worthwhile nature of this title.
  19. Excellent! Can't wait to try this out!
  20. This is an interesting question. I'm actually looking at my own choices in my collection history to try to answer it. Fairchild Channel F. I was holding one, bagged with some accessories, in my hand at Urban Ore in Oakland, CA about 7 years ago. It was marked $20. I put it back on the shelf. I find this ironic, since my original purpose of opening an eBay account was to find and buy a Channel F. I was kind of obsessed with it... The idea that it was a console for "retro-masochists". This was also 19 years ago when it was only emulated by MESS and there were just a few carts dumped. A console before Atari that was a struggle to enjoy? I was ceaselessly intrigued. After loosing horribly with my first attempts on eBay, I got hooked on vintage PC cards, then Apple II stuff, and eventually other consoles and carts. I forgot I was after the Channel F. When I finally held the object-of-my-desire that sparked all of this in my hands (bagged at Urban Ore) I realized that it's one of those things that I would spend WAY more time fixing than enjoying. So in a lucid moment, I put it back on the shelf and walked away.
  21. There's a lot of winking going on here, but has anyone done it?
  22. This is very amusing. If you are taking requests, I'd love to see Sinistar and Doom.
