Last 3 games you played?
CaptainBreakout replied to lushgirl_80's topic in Classic Console Discussion
nice on Thunder Force III. I think that was the last game I played all the way through. I just wanted to add my batch, since it's weird... Polaris Alpha Beam with Ernie Oscar's Trash Race ... All on 2600... With my kids. Prior to that (with my nephew last week)... Rebooteroids (Jaguar) Epic Pinball (PC DOS) Electronic Pinball (PC DOS) -
I love the star raiders co-pilot suggestion! I think I'll give it a try! And warlords too... Another great idea. Thanks!!!

Yes... Check out the curtains in their bedroom! .. yep those are Sesame Street characters playing, basically, Pac-Man. The thing is tho, as much as my wife and I love Sesame Street, but we both kinda hate Elmo. We just think he's annoying. It sucks that he took over the show around 1990. So the challenge is finding Sesame Street material prior to about 1985 or so. Since I frequent flea markets, that's doable. And we've found a ton of cool sesame Street stuff sans Elmo. My daughter's favorite character is Prairie Dawn. And Im proud to say my kids can name even those more obscure characters (Sherlock Hemlock for example), but have no idea who Elmo is.

... and low and behold it did. Yioe running out of energy to write. Had to have a discussion with my wife about which preschool we're trying for... I wanted to write a few things about how Oscar's Trash Race was a complete error filled mess. There was more then met the eye tho. The fact that Oscar was pink should have tipped me off. It also did really horrible things to the display if I attempted to use my A/V modded 7800. That should have tipped me off too, but I haven't had the console for very long so I'm still getting used to it. It turned out I had a PAL cart of Oscar. I found this out after trudging through some really confusing visuals for a half hour with my kids. I doubt this will ever happen to anyone else ever, but yeah... If your copy of Oscar's Trash Race contains a pink Oscar and looks and plays horribly, and your cart label is surprising clear of acti-plaque, you have a PAL cart! Do not play it. Your kids will be distraught. As far as carts go, I don't have many doubles. In fact I have almost none. But for Some reason, I remembered I had another really crusty copy of Oscar's Trash Race at the bottom of the box of spare Atari stuff in the closet. I dug it out and plugged it in after the kids went to bed. Sure enough. I think "I'll be damned" was what I said in response to a title screen I could actually read... Or it might have been in response to Oscar being green. Can't remember now. I'm tired. I've been having dreams about being rejected from preschool. Take it easy on me. PS... I couldn't resist telling my kids... "You know Oscar's Trash Race, and how you kept asking me why he was pink? I fixed it." "You fixed it?" "Yeah." "Why?" ...

Anyways, so now there have been a few days where we've had some gaming nights. Here's a few things I've learned. My daughter does not respond the same way to Polaris as my son did. In fact I figured out fairly quickly that the game was causing her some distress. The second scene where the sub must navagate through the underwater caverns held her interest, but as soon as we got back to the surface levels she started wincing and making uncomfortable sounds. I asked her, "You don't like this game?" My three year old son looked at me and said, "I think it's 'cause you're shooting at stuff." Wow. Poignant observation. We finally got to the Sesame Street games... We started with Alpha Beam with Ernie. Very successful aside from discovering one of my two Kid's Controllers was factory defective. Slight hitch there. Thankfully I had two. Ernie was a big hit. My son figured out how to load up the rocketship in about fifteen minutes. The payoff is really good and something that was genuinely fun as a dad to witness and participate in. It was also nice too since he started out by saying "I want to see rocket move." ... (cont.)

I did some research and I think this game is called Asteroids.

I just want to express a little something... I am extremely excited this project. Partially because SiO2 recently rocked my world with a 7800. Partially because the amazing talent that's going into it... but also for one other big reason... I own a complete but non-working Baby Pac-Man game. I went to great lengths to find one several years ago, as I love both Pinball and Pac-Man and unusual things that are awesome. I have every intention of fixing it. I'm no stranger to fixing pinballs. I have a Black Knight, Black Hole, Playboy, Caveman, and several more under my belt. It just so happens that this game is the next one on my list, patiently waiting for me to get back to it (this aspect of my hobby took a long break due to recent fatherhood). Of all the pinballs I've had my head inside, I know that Baby Pac-Man is probably going to be the hardest. I've been simultaneously looking forward to and dreading tackling it. I've only played a 100% working Baby Pac-Man machine on one session many years ago. As I said, I'm extremely excited about this 7800 version- for a variety of reasons but also because I hope to use it to actually playtest and troubleshoot my arcade machine. If anyone in this thread ever wondered if this game, once completed, might be used for this purpose- I can assure you that yes... it will be, sooner rather than later I'd say.

Thank you. I might hit him up, simply because Ballblazer is a game I'm fairly interested in, and if he's got a manual too that's always a plus for me.

So I broke up a pair of large Sony monitor headphones, and hot glued them under the hood of my 6-switch... Now my AtariVox has dedicated speakers! Sweet hearing the thing talk.
-
Yes, please! That would keep this hulk functional. I'll keep my fingers crossed ... And thanks!

Thanks again... Well, I just discovered that it's actually a 4-port Atari 800. It worked last I checked. I have a disk drive and a bunch of accessories too. If anyone is interested in this thing, let me know. Glad I can pull the chip in a hassle-free reversable operation. I really hope another run of these POKEYs gets made.
-
Oh wow... I totally assumed it was a desoldering situation. Thanks for that! I'll have to take a look under the hood then.

I'm suddenly in the 7800 world. I have no Pokey (and I want to buy Super Circus AtariAge). Anyone want to sell me a Pokey? I have an Atari 400 I'm not using, but it seems a shame just to butcher it for one chip. Anyway, hoping to hear from you if you can sell me one or want to trade. Thanks!

Collecting goals for 2019

Neat! Is that something for retro gaming rig? If so, you going with DOS, Win 3.1, 95, 98 or ? Just curious what your plans are with it. -
Collecting goals for 2019
CaptainBreakout replied to HoshiChiri's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, a 7800 came into my life recently, and it's begging to be fed (just when I thought I got everything I could possibly want for the 2600). I still have to find a spot for the thing to integrate it into the small game/guest room. Then find room in the cart rack for games that have yet to be purchased. Besides that, my goal this year is repair rather than aquisition. I've got a garage full of arcade games. All of which (except Baby Pac-Man) worked great before I moved to the country. Immediately after the move four years ago, I got married and started having kids. It took 2016-2018 to get the game/guest room completed to my specs. It was originally a walled-in room in the garage where I think the last owners sub-let. Not very livable. Lots of interior upgrades, electrical work and a new A/C, and now it's pretty nice. It's also got all my consoles and carts, a mame table, a pachinko and a slot machine. The slot was a recent find that needs a little work (also on my to do list). Not my first slot machine repair, but this one is an early 80's Aristocrat/IGT hybrid called an Esprit (I think), and a tall order. Also first one I'm committed to keeping for myself. Any slot experts here? Anyone? Anyway, hopefully 2019 will be the year of the garage arcade. Things always seem to take longer then expected tho. Dang 7800. Another mouth to feed. Good thing it's weird and charming. -
Trying to find a location for an unexpected new old console.

Thanks for the suggestions. Suddenly it was so obvious... on top of the scuba gear below the baby incubator.

The week of rarity!

I like it! Looking forward to seeing the Gamma Attack review especially. Actually all of these will be an interesting read. -
Custer's Revenge (Mystique)
CaptainBreakout commented on DoctorSpuds's blog entry in DoctorSpuds Reviews Things
I was, until very recently, the proud (?) owner of this game. If your joystick has a rapid fire button, if works.. umm, well in this game. In fact it would be hilarious, excepting that it amplifies the peculiar embarrassment associated with playing. -
Speechless. And it's modded!!!!! Santa... So generous!!!!! Amazing! I feel so cutting edge in the retro scene now. And yes... I see your signature on this homebrew 😮
-
Santa was definitely just here. Daddy has an Entex Space Invader peaking out of his stocking, and Raggity Ann has been enjoying Coleco Pac-Man. Mommy got massive art pens, and Santa obviously still supports VHS.
-
Yeah, and if it happens this member has no package, I volunteer to chip in and send, you know, a stocking stuffer type gift. Keep us posted.

Hahahaha! Yeah, Jasper is always right in there for any family excitement. He's a good boy! This package really blew my kids mind. I'm really excited to try everything in it. I read my daughter some Sonic the Hedgehog comic tonight. It was really awsomely bewildering to her. She really like robots (!) And she's very interested in the concept of what a bad guy ("is he mean?") is. She also likes hedgehogs.

The outter parameter has been breached! Wow! I just couldn't hold back anymore. As you can see the kids, and even the dog, all very excited too! Thank you thank you so much Secret Santa! You hit the nail on the head so many time you practically drove it through the board! I held back a bit... My Secret Santa was very smart and puts big wrapped box in there, which I will refrain from opening until the big day. But seriously... I'm floored! Where to begin? The Sonic the Hedgehog comics are perfect for the kids. They are thrilled. Custom beer opener with canyon bomber on it? If you knew me you'd think I already had one I love the space shuttle plates. Rad rad rad... I'm getting them framed. Iron Soldier? Also how'd ya know I didn't have that? And that I love old mech warrior games? Oh yeah "he sees you when you're sleeping". Something like that. Boxed? With manual and insert? Santa... You are too kind. And the Saturn controllers really have me spooked. I actually really could use them. My son and I like to play Astal together. Our favorite game on the Saturn... And great fun with a kid since they can control the little bird that follows the main character around. Just perfect. Looking forward to see what this programmable one can do with fighting games. So thrilled. Thanks again Santa... And I can't wait till I see what's in the big box... Oh wait, I can wait.... That's the point of what I was trying to say. I can't even imagine what it is tho. It was surrounded by awesomeness. Merry Christmas, Members! And especially to you Santa!!!

The Charlie Brown Christmas theme is playing in my head. Things are calm and Christmasy. Very nice.
