  1. Finally... Ninja Golf! I have to admit I'm impressed that Atari, in its current form, is offering rereleases that are not only physical, but compatible with vintage hardware. I'm usually only interested in vintage stuff, but this marketing arrow definitely hit home with me. I'm not sure how big my demographic is, but they got my money anyway. This is a game I've been wanting for a long time (I came close to paying almost $100 for one last year). The publisher being Atari makes this being "new" even more amusing to me, and compounds more interest into an already very weird game (my favorite kind). So yay! ... Ninja Golf, a ~40 year old game, on preorder! Now if they can get Al Lewis' estate to sign off on the use of his likeness, they'll make another sale from me on Midnight Mutants.
  2. Trying to get this Missile Command working for a friend.
  3. @Big Player that is useful information. Thank you. I'll have to look at the 400 mini now. I usually shy away from mini rereleases, but that looks like a good use for one. Also seems owning a 5200 M.U.L.E. is very unlikely.
  4. @WavyGravyNice. Yeah that sounds like what mine is doing. I believe it's the belts too. Where did you get your replacement parts? Console5?
  5. Sweet! My Tower of Power works! Kind of. The Sega CD keeps kicking out the disc. Not reading it for some reason. Probably need to rebuild the laser or something. And the audio cuts out. Needs new capacitors all around. Anyway it runs the 32x game! The 5200 to the right is just a placeholder for now. I've got no power supply, games or controllers. The rest of the stuff on the left works tho. What you up to with your setup?
  6. I can agree with that. Unless it's a little kid (like super little), I'd never throw a game. I think it's a disservice. I proudly say, and it's true, that I never beat my grandmother at checkers. I have way more respect for her because of that then if she let me win. And she was an avid gamer... She just played games from her generation. I don't think I ever beat her at Tennis either. The other week, I brought my kids to a local retro arcade. My daughter (7) can focus pretty intensely. At this arcade was a Hang On machine (motorcycle, as if you didn't know). My daughter is barely tall enough to see the screen. From across the room, the owner of the arcade was watching her. After five minutes, he walked over to "help". After all, the handlebars were higher then her nose. I was so proud that, to the owner's surprise, he saw that my daughter was qualifying, and actually earning extended laps. He turned and muttered something about "well actually you are doing pretty good!". Anyone with decent hand eye coordination can handle a controller. In friendly competition if one is not playing to one's skill, that's pandering. There better be a damn good reason for it, otherwise it's (to bring back a classic term) dishonorable. It comes down to this... You've got to respect the other party enough to allow them to rise to the challenge of beating you at your best. That's the whole point. Everyone gets better returns on their efforts that way, and skills get built fastest. So yeah, I think the notion of dumbing down one's skill, especially for sexist reason, is playing into something that seems degenerative.
  7. I love the Xonox games, partially because they are difficult to love, and extremely quirky. I think I like Sir Lancelot the most... It's sort of like a one-player Joust Deluxe and progresses like Dragon Fire. For a real challenge, try finding the single-enders. I have 6 of em, and each was hard to find (missing Spikes Peak and Motocross Racer). The carts aren't quite as cool as the double-enders, but at least they can stack like the other carts with end labels if you display them that way. Although, for some reason (which can only be a result of lack of quality control), the text on about half the single-ender Xonox cart end-labels are oriented one way (like standard Atari carts), and the others flipped (like ColecoVision carts)... So several of them have upside-down text if they are stacked on each other!* (This actually made a difference on which titles I tracked down too!) Oh Xonox... I love how your crap-factor is part of your appeal, but dang you're pricey! *2600 SpectraVision and (gasp!) Sega carts also did this.
  8. I know I'm about 20 years too late, but I'm one of the ones interested in a 5200 cart if they ever happen. Thanks!
  9. Interesting that this response came out of nowhere from a few years gap, and yet I find it so succinct and well-written, and I agree with it. Nice. I'm surprised no one has brought up batteries as an analogy. Everyone here knows batteries will leak and cause all kinds of damage to battery compartments, or worse... The PCBs that were unlucky enough to be designed with them in place. I don't think anyone who's into vintage toys, for example, would suggest keeping the 1970 factory Everreadys in the battery compartment of a toy robot for authenticity. The CD-i I can see across the room has such a component... And I've worked on a lot of pinball games that have malfunctioned as a result of being stored with batteries on the motherboard. Sometimes these batteries are manufactured into the game (Gottlieb, I'm looking at you). No one is happy when they discover that their pinball won't work anymore even though they've kept it wrapped up in storage untouched for three decades, simply due to battery corrosion. Capacitors are very much like this, but on a longer time line. Someday I'm looking forward to a new technology... A component that will replace the capacitor with something that will truly last forever. That would be nice. A little like an LED versus an incandescent bulb. It's a bit lame thinking when I replace capacitors for something that it may be that the ones I installed will need to be replaced again in 30 years. Still this hobby is a lot like classic cars. So in the sense I ask you... What's more impressive/desirable?... A Model-T that's totally original... with brittle cast wheel bearings and all kinds of problems resulting from 100year-old parts and decay even from being stored in the best of conditions... Or one that's reasonably modernized and ready to take you down the street?
  10. I just nailed down a deal for this... Haven't brought it home yet tho. Waiting on my tax refund. 😂
  11. @chicgamer is equally responsible for putting in the time it takes for keeping this tradition. Some years moreso! Proudly doing it! Thank you!
  12. Just a "Bump" because I'm still looking. Maybe trade for some stuff? I've got various NES, SNES, and Genesis carts. Let me know if you want a list.
  13. Hiya! If you've got a spare 7800 cart of Ballblazer, please PM me! Thanks.
  14. This game was one of my all time favorites on the Apple II! I wasn't aware there was a 7800 version until now. Does anyone know how I can get this on cartridge?
  15. Resisting the urge to think about acquiring a 5200.

      I might know someone with a spare two-port 5200 ...

  16. I second that. I think we must revamp international shipping procedures for next year.
  17. HoshiVision does have a certain ring to it. Like something out of the world of Wreck-It Ralph.
  18. Likewise your cats look like my cats! That's either Wednesday or Spirit in the picture there (Spirit has a white mark under her chin, otherwise they are hard to tell apart... They are sisters too). Also pictures is chicgamer's amazing gift, the Sonic Slot Car Race set... Which my son and I completed and raced shortly after this photo. Sonic and Shadow are both pretty evenly matched, so we both won some games! Also received two additional amazing gifts.. a custom Mr Do tumbler, and Mr Do 3d printed pixel art! ... So incredibly thoughtful!!! (Mr Do is my spirit animal)
  19. Santa signed his card, so I get to thank him personally... Thank you so much @Machine!!! This stuff is awesome!!! My daughter is clamoring to open the micro Mario sets... So I told her we had to wait to take a picture first. (I have to thank my secret Santa! She is now ripping her way into the micro Mario sets... Lol!!!
  20. First... To set the mood. Ive been getting a ton of synthwave youtube suggestions in my feed. I am begining to wonder if all of it, including all the nubile babes with colorful hair, is AI generated. Anyways, since it's 2023... Why not enjoy the trends a little? While the music in the link above doesn't strike me as very Christmassy... the imagery sure does!!! Like... Welcome to 80's yuletide! Okay ... So the box!!! Right off the bat, there's a TON of pinball flyers in there!!! Which... I absolutely love!!! This is fantastic. People that know me know I love putting my head in a pinball game. Literally. A few of these titles are ones I've fixed over the years! How extremely cool!!! And check out this coincidence... Yep... Just a few feet away is my current project. This game looks super fun, and I wish I could keep it, but I have to give it back to its owner when I'm done fixing it. But now... I can keep the flyer to remind me of the occasion! I think I'll frame it too. It's got an unusual die-cut that I think will look good if it's framed right! ... The rest of the packages have been placed under the tree. (And there's a LOT!) The box of whoppers... Perhaps my favorite candy of all... Did not last long. I ate them with the same ravaging indulgence that I had when I discovered them at age 10. Except that's not all... A complete surprise!!? My partner in AtariAge Santaness, the wonderful chicgamer, completely bowled me over with a surprise package. (We have a tradition of sending each other something too.) It was not small. Even more gifts! @chicgamer... Your generosity is legend. Thank you!!! Well... Thanks to Santa, and all this AtariAge generosity... The tree is very loaded this year!!! Stay turned tomorrow. Unwrapping will commence. Cheers to everyone here!!!
  21. This is a huge relief. Chicgamer gets the credit for noticing my typo and basically fixing this problem. Thank you. And these are good points, and a good learning experience. Of course maintaining the (illusion?) Santa Secrecy is part of the experience, at the same time the process could use another failsafe or two to prevent delivery problems and mixups, to use this as an example. We'll talk about it for next year.
  22. Christmas is coming. And he is not as forgiving as I am. https://youtu.be/66M8NwkRmew?si=xZCD2XWaEngFyYK8
