I know what you mean, mate. I can hardly understand half of what's being said anymore, and I can't see chatspeak being any easier to write. It took about three times longer writing that ditty up there than it did writing this. It just doesn't make sense.

  2. I finally snatched myself a big lot on Craigslist. A few of the controllers have damaged cables, one 2600 has a missing switch, and the SNES and a Zapper have some yellowing, but for the most part everything's in good condition. 3. I found this nifty little bootleg of the Matrix at a thrift store tonight. I haven't been able to watch it yet, but so far I've gotten a big kick out of the back cover. It's got the cast and a URL for 'The Perfect Storm' listed and also lists www.starwars.com after it states that it's 'Theatrical Widescreen Format'.

Sorry for the chitty picture. If anyone wants to get a better look I can do a scan and upload it tomorrow after school.

  4. I have a nice hoard of Sega systems I've picked up at the flea market over the past several months, but I don't have AC adapters for them. Some items I'm looking to buy are:

Sega Genesis model 1 AC adapter (for use with a model 1 Sega CD because I hear they use the same adapters)

Genesis model 2 A/V cable (Stereo preferred, but not a big deal)

    Sega Saturn A/V cable

Sega Saturn controller (3D controller preferred, but not a big deal at the moment)

    Nintendo 64 A/V cable

Nintendo Game Boy Pocket link cable (for use with a Game Boy printer)

That's what I need. I'm hoping to get as much of it as I can from one seller. I was going to order from collectorscardsandgames.com, but I figured I'd ask around here first.

  5. I found a really interesting knockoff console at my local Savers for five dollars last night. I haven't been able to find any info about it on the internet yet, but I have been able to figure out a few things:

    PAL

    '1,200,000 in 1'

Two 9-pin controller ports and one 15-pin controller port

Has a cartridge slot which fits Famicom carts

It's really cheap and looks to be held together mostly with hot glue. I have to run it through my Aiwa Worldwide VCR to convert the signal to NTSC, but it appears to be working just fine. I'll be checking it out a bit more over the next couple weeks.

  6. I had a pretty amazing day at the flea market today! I wasn't expecting to find anything too great because it's been kind of lousy lately, but I found quite a few cool new toys and even had to pass up on a couple things.

    The Loot:

Sega CD model one with no cables or power adaptor: $8

Suncom 'The Party Quiz Game' controllers: $4

    6 in 1 Gameboy game cartridge: $1

Three Laserdiscs (Clockwork Orange, Weird Science, and Se7en [still sealed]): $5

I passed up on a Tandy 102 portable computer which was being sold for eight dollars but didn't have anything else with it and was missing the door to the battery compartment, and an Atari C-380 Video Pinball, which was also eight dollars, because I already have one and I wanted to hold onto some cash in case I came across anything else.

All in all, a very good day at the market.

  7. I've had a couple of small, fun finds recently.

I got a Vivitar 3-in-1 'compact digital camera' with a whopping 16mb of memory(!) for a dollar and a copy of Scream on DIVX for a dollar as well. The DIVX disc is pretty useless, but I like having different formats in my collection, so I was quite excited to come across it.

The Other recent find is a Commodore 64 Datasette which my friend found at the flea market the other day and bought for me. It cost five dollars and, most importantly, gives me an excuse to start buying cassette games. Slowly but surely my Commodore is coming together.

  8. These are the major finds of the week. The 3DO was $25, Alien Brigade was $2, and the light sixer was a total of $16, not $15 as I'd said in my last post.

Have you been able to test the 3DO yet? It looks like the disc tray has been replaced with one from a DVD drive, so it makes curious. Either way, at least you got an official Panasonic controller out of the deal. When I found my 3DO at my flea market it didn't have the controllers, so I just bought a couple 3rd party controllers (which are much more reasonably priced).

The 3DO is definitely a worthwhile system to have. Being able to burn games onto CD-Rs is a huge bonus if you like to try games before (or instead) buying them.

  9. They've seemingly removed everything else they could possibly remove to trim cost, so why keep this? About the only thing I can think of are dancing and singing games. They seem to be a popular genre with the casual Wii fanbase. Do any of them have USB accessories like mic's?

I know Rock Band uses the USB port, and I assume that Guitar Hero does too. Those games seem to be some of the most widely played games among casual players, so I guess it makes sense that they would leave it in if they're focusing on the casual user.

  10. It seems like there's a lot of anger and vitriol directed at companies that seem to be headed toward a completely digital distribution method (other than Valve...people like Steam), so when Nintendo goes and releases something that is as close to a traditional, got-to-have-game-media console, they're met with...anger and vitriol?

Personally, I don't like digital stuff anyway. And if I want to surf the web or watch Netflix I'll use my computer because it's much better suited for the experience. My main problem is that it downgraded the video output quality, doesn't have Gamecube support, and still doesn't play DVDs. Actually, the DVD thing is my main problem, mainly because the whole thing about not including DVD playback when they very well could.

Personally, I just dislike the Wii in general, and I got worked up after seeing the Wii Mini and started to rant. I'd bo completely okay with it if it were around the $50 price range. The idea that something this downgraded is still $100 kind of irks me.

I didn't know this even existed until today, but I'll tell you right now, I think it's terrible. I already had a huge problem with the original Wii as a 'next gen' console because it was vastly underpowered when compared to the competition, could only display in standard definition (personally, I don't care about this because I kind of prefer SD, but I know a lot of people do care about HD), wouldn't play DVDs even though it had the capability to, had dreadful wifi capabilities (in my experience), and it's only selling point was the wacky controllers which were only fun for a couple months before becoming a major hindrance.

Now they have a cheaper, brightly-coloured plastic version which has no internet capabilities, still doesn't play DVDs, is only capable of displaying through composite cables, has no SD card slot, and now won't even play Gamecube games. All that and it's still $100 with no pack-in game. The downgrade is baffling to me.

I would expect something like this from some shady, Chinese knockoff brand for $45. I would be completely okay with this system if it actually were in the $45-55 rage, because that's what I think it's worth, what with almost all the features removed or toned down to a near minimal level. Hell, $45 for a few months of solid fun is a pretty good deal. I even kind of like that it's made out of plastic. It kind of reminds me of the SNES, and that's kind of nice.

All in all, it's not what I would call a jump forward for Nintendo. In fact, I don't see this being a success at all. Nintendo has had a fairly good track record with their consoles, save a couple ambitious gambles which didn't pay off, but this looks pretty terrible. We'll see how long before there's a price drop.

  12. I have a bunch of old games and applications from my youth that I want to use, but our Windows 7 computer won't support 16-bit programs. I've put together a separate computer to run Windows 95. Now all I need is the OS.

If anyone has an operating system CD please let me know. This computer has been sitting around for months and I just want to get it finished so I can start using it to play old games and burn floppies for my Atari ST.
