  1. As someone who was there at the time, played it lots, played it in arcades as recently as 96 - 97, and could've picked up an arcade machine as recently as two or three months ago (but missed out due to bad timing ) It runs at more than 10 fps. Admittedly I may have been tainted by the Xbox version of Midways Arcade Treasures #3 (which has SR on it) because it runs very smoothly (see here for example ), perhaps more smoothly than the arcade...but I'm assuming it's close because Race Drivin' on MAT3 runs like junk (5fps or lower, just like the arcade). But basing *anything* (resolution, framerate, colour depth, polygon count etc) as conclusive edvidence on YouTube videos isn't really going to end well or factually. Better to use Google, the wayback machine, wikipedia, VAPS, forums etc before YT.
  2. Definitely keen for at least two, possibly for four. A couple of queries: - Have you considered going the crowdfunding (Kickstarter) route? Yes there are pros (ha!) and cons, but transparency and tracking of updates is a definite positive. It doesn't magically guarantee delivery or anything like that for punters, but it can greatly widen the audience and ensure funds are delivered to the creators upon campaign completion date. - Would it be possible to purchase just the boards? As I've mentioned before on AA, I made an 8 button arcade stick with spinner, keypad, and provision for autofire 20 or so years ago. It was easy enough to do but would be much easier and quicker to do with a replica pro-controller board. If the bare boards themselves were available to purchase, the likelihood of being able to produce quality self-contained arcade sticks in decent quantities for the Jag would be much easier. This is hypothetical of course

  4. I've taught structured / planned video editing on and off over the years, and have also done some occasional experimental trippy visual work to go along with my music, so I can run the gamut of what one should do and not do. It was partly illness, partly silliness, part iMovie constraints (rather than using the usual Final Cut Pro or Premiere) and partly reverence to Minter's style (I've played most of his games for a months on end) that contributed to the vid being what it is. I find the salty comment fair praise for it I'm just happy that the news is being spread. Benefits Al, CJ, AA, and of course Minter & Llamasoft (to quote Jeff "I was amazed and impressed that they managed to port the ST games over and they're welcome to anything they get from selling them...they deserve whatever rewards they get for their efforts in bringing the games to Jag enthusiasts in such a cool way...If I want more money out of Llamatron I'll make a new one") ...I hope that last comment is fortuitous...
  5. As mentioned, there's an awesome artist who frequents these forums who's responsible for the great and appropriate visual artwork I'm just a lame guy (legit, I was home sick one afternoon) who was given the amazing opportunity by AA and CJ to chuck in every silly rave/techno and Llamasoft sample that I could in a 60 second loop. I hope that'll be the last time I mention it, but after 30 or so years of enjoying Llamasoft games, to even have the opportunity to get involved in the smallest of ways was pretty darn cool. I'm working on a couple of extended versions of the tune...so it might not be the last time I mention it, haha. And this in the comments on Kotaku...Imma put it on my resume "As much as I love retro nostalgia, that’s gotta be the shittiest produced product video I’ve ever seen." Best. Praise. Ever....
  6. If you haven't got rid of Brain Dead 13 and want to at some point, send me a PM, it's the last original game I'm after. And yes, I do / have played them all I do agree, the SD cart will be great in terms of convenience and for those who are 'worried about wear and tear, though my Jag CD(s) are on the whole as or more reliable than my 3DO, PS1(s), Saturn(s) etc.
  7. I'd have improved the game by actually digitising the player, tree, and object sprites rather than just upping the colour vs the SNES version. And improved the distance in front of the player. And, as mentioned, added a small amount of time for doing 'tricks' (they're otherwise pointless albeit fun). I'd have 'modernised' the music as well...more 4/4 beats are always good In a similar vein, I'd have used digitised sprites for the bikes and roadside objects in Super Burnout as well. It would've further delineated these two games from their 16-bit counterparts. I guess that's an easy suggestion now given how easy it is to do such things, but I also thought same back when they were both released.
  8. That tune and video seem familiar...can anyone count the number of Llamasoft samples? I was sick when I made the tune and lost count haha Congrats to CJ and Al. Ive been biting my tongue about this for months lol.
  9. STUN Runner. Flat shaded / light sourced polys, arcade ROM is only ~720 kB. Perfect(ish) arcade port (sans odd arcade resolution) could be done in about 1mB, add some funky feedback effects (ala Minter), cool soundtrack, improved gameplay enhancements for a "2K" mode....ahh, that'd have been great. Minter mentioned he'd have liked to have done, pre his Major Havoc 2K idea for the Jag...either Major Havoc or I Robot could've been phenomenal on the Jag if they were played to the machine's strengths. Virtua Racing or Virtua Fighter Remix if the Sega deal had've panned out and not gone south. Could've gone part way to remove the bad taste of the obvious games that Atari tried and failed to ape. And, after seeing the video on page 1 of this thread, Tattoo Assassins all the way. I don't care how crap it is, it would've left Kasumi Ninja and Way of the Warrior in it's dust. It looks so awful it's great.
  10. Here's the person selling them: http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/skunkboard-flash-cardridge-for-jaguar-27561
  11. The three discs above were 'movies' of the Gamefilm from what I can gather. A 2CD and 1CD version (both converted to the Jag format for burning). They're no longer on mega unfortunately, and I've not found them 'elsewhere' Some forum members must've downloaded and burnt them. The quick search reveals the actual game is available to purchase from the usual places.
  12. Mega bump. Are these three disc files available anywhere? And the box art too? It's a long road attempting to be a Jaguar completist...
  13. As with everything Jaguar these days, there's too little supply for demand, plus there's the Jag fume tax. I got my Xbox (original) kiosk for less than $200 Australian. I thought about converting it to a Jaguar one, but nope. I can't imagine it'd be too difficult to scratch build one or convert another more plentiful kiosk model, and it could probably (easily) be made to look sleeker than the 90s model
  14. The best way to play SR at home is either on the Lynx or on the emulated XBox / PS2 Midway's Arcade Treasures 3 (although the control is a bit ropey). From the available 3D games (ranging from very good to very terrible) I suspect the Jag *could* have been able to do a reasonable facsimile of the arcade version, polygons and all. Maybe at a slightly lower res. IS2 and Battlemorph are miles ahead of the early 3D flat/gouraud polygonal games, so why not? *opens can of worms*
  15. I'm (personally) not just thinking of unreleased stuff. I'm thinking everything. But I should get on with my thesis which is about the same sort of concept (nothing Jaguar related though lol)...the 'everything' of a particular given gaming/software/edu history if you will...I have a looong way to go on that before I even think of assisting or digging myself into something like this or other hobby projects of my own... Back to my original thoughts though, it's equally about clarifying and reducing the amount of repeat questions as well as being interesting to read.
  16. Haha madman, beat me to it....same link posted by me, two posts up I believe DHGF (and maybe others) did turn on the Jag *in part* due to Atari requiring flash carts, software, and hardware be returned after testing. Atari were stingy, but also weren't operating at the budget that other companies were...although if you see the figures being thrown around for game production, they still had some coin. On a somewhat related note, and it's probably because I've been around the Jag online scene since 'the beginning' (being overseas from any official release I had to read all about it) I feel that much of what gets discussed here and on other forums / facebook is often repeated, sometimes forgotten, and often inaccurate or skewed (I'm guilty of this as I rack through 25 years of what I remember). I'm wondering if it's time (or otherwise well overdue) for a *massive* Jaguar FAQ update....or a linkable online repository (wiki or otherwise) of everything Jaguar related...or even a book / 'bookazine' / coffee table book about the Jaguar....
  17. They all took LSD before doing the Cybermorph review, lol. http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/gamefan/GameFAN.htm
  18. Sometime in the last 12 months I came across a demo version of Gorf Classic. I'd not seen it before, but it was easily findable using a search engine. I'd actually point out where I found it but I honestly can't remember where. It works fine under emulation for the most part. Infinite lives, maybe no scores, and maybe a bug or three. It's actually pretty decent for what it is. Despite the various upsets and personality clashes and bannings and whatever over the last 10 or so years, I feel it's a shame that the gift of the freedom to release it was rescinded by big business...it's a bit of fun, but unfortunately (like most limited Jag things) the full version of Gorf Classic is not worth the 'official' price of admission on ebay or whenever its sold these days (IMHO). Especially as it's on CDR (I believe) :-/ I have a nearly complete Jaguar collection, but this will elude me I feel.
  19. Spelling error aside (I loled), it's obvious to me what's running under the hood is much cleaner than befoer. That said, collision / hit detection seems a bit off. Perhaps sprites / graphics are a bit big (subjectively) and it looks a bit busy (to me). I'm not so much going to comment on graphics and style (that can come later, and I will comment on the stylistic busy-ness of it all ) but I'd focus on on (a) introducing gameplay difficulty progression in a slower and more measured way, (b) hit detection / collisions, © a gentle introduction of gameplay elements (e.g. snake not until later). There's no need to rush and (this is a personal preference regarding signal to noise ratio even on a single forum thread) there's no pressing need to post a video for every tiny incremental update (IMHO)...not that I'm here much at the moment, but I'd rather be surprised with a post every week or two than tiny updates that get pulled apart by everyone. REM Plan *everything* 10 Take your time. 20 Goto 10.
  20. I'm helping to run a retro gaming area at a videogame / anime convention this coming weekend. 20, 000 or so people will be through the convention doors, maybe 10 to 20% come through our area. I'd love to have this running on a loop on the Jag via my Skunkboard...people would be so confused, haha.
  21. I suggest some of you all check out www.yakyak.org. It's Jeff's forum. Many of the questions and comments here are answered over there. He posts a bit there too.
  22. These are (were at least, haven't looked for a while) reasonably easy to get from Japan for around $100 - 140 AU from memory. Shipping wasn't cheap and you'd need to wait a couple of months for it to arrive on a boat.... Sometimes they'd be missing the occasional switch or button. Other mates got them but I never ended up getting one for myself lol. I still want one
  23. This is what puzzles me JB - why did you rush it to release without giving the game enough time to incubate it properly? It's such a shame that something with a promising premise has devolved into the nasty stuff in this thread. People are grumpy and annoyed (for better or worse, some of the personal stuff is unwarranted imho, some of the people getting nasty need to pull their head in) because the game had potential, yet you rushed it out with a seeming lack of consideration for the feedback you received. Why? Why rush it out? Just because something compiles and works doesn't mean it's ready for public consumption. I really can't understand why there was a need to push it out when even a few weeks more tweaking *plus* building on level structure could've turned it from functional to loads of fun. I'd love to buy the CD version but it still seems like a beta from what I've seen. I'm sure with a bit more polish this could've been a simple yet addictive game like Downfall (as you mentioned) with the additional bonus of multiple modes. Most feedback (some of which has turned nasty :-/ ) pretty much comes from a position of wanting you to be your best rather than just having things 'work'. Seeing how this has gone guarantees I'll not post anything Jag dev related until I know it works even though I have numerous things working on Mac / PC that I'm pretty sure I could have running on the Jag in short order (I could throw up some mock ups right now but nope ).
  24. As mentioned earlier, that's essentially what I did but used proper arcade buttons and a stick to create a 'pro-controller' arcade joystick with 6 main buttons and 2 shoulder buttons out of a normal control pad. I'm surprised more people haven't done it. Whenever I see people taking the effort to make an arcade stick for the Jag but they only do it as a three button stick, I swear a kitten dies or something.
  25. I still want one of these but they're not being made anymore. Anyone want to sell me theirs? Seriously.
