  1. I too would like to see links for some of this, as I'm too lazy to research all of it on my own. :)

Particularly the 5200 leather covers, Gauntlet (release date, roughly??) and the composite video mods.

    leather covers:

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 2610288000441?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=261028800044&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

the thread of the video mods is here

none is compatible with the 2600 adapter :(

Gauntlet is due for 30TH aniversary -HOPE!- on a big 64k megacart by Ziggystar

  2. Many say the good old 5200 lacks homebrew support these days

    nonetheless 2012 have brought

    * SINISTAR for only 25 bucks

    * not just 1 but 2 new composite video mods.-awesome quality-

    * Atarimax Ultimate sd cart with LOTS of A8 conversions ,THE best thing ever to happen to the system!

    * NOS aluminium spare front parts for the case from a known supplier

    * 4 to 5 new games on the horizon including the long awaited Tempest , Gauntlet and Cloack & Dagger.

    * New custom made 5200 Leather 5200 covers

and some ebay sellers are making cheap custom joystick converters

what more can the 5200 fan wish for ??!!

  3. is there a thread with an attached file configured for all 2600 and 7800 games and homebrews?

A search of the forums should find it. It'll most likely be quite out of date so you'll need to add the homebrews that you want to play manually.

    can you upload one?

I'm a developer so mine won't be of any use to you.

my cart come with nice official games, but not homebrews, and no menu.txt,

so to add files i would have to configure it from the cero,

    Search is your friend ;).

    for example

tried to make a new menu called PPLUS with mooncresta on it

    the txt is this

    Moon cresta mcresta HSC 78BIOS

then converted with the utiliy to PPLUS.cc2

and copied mcresta to the games directoty

copied the cc2 files to root

but the menu does not show PPLUS ?!

  4. Find out what bank switching is needed (usually specified in the game's development thread somewhere). Add an appropriate line to your menu.txt. Run cc2menu.exe (available from Chad Schell's website). Copy the newly generated menu.cc2 to the root of your MMC card and copy the game's *.bin file to the GAMES directory. Game ROMs must use 8.3 file names.

    post-1650-127439817604_thumb.gif

How does it compare to the various A8 Tetris games ?

    how is the control?

    it's the only A5200 game i'm missing

PM me if you have one

we can make a good deal

  6. I recently experienced 5200 Berzerk because of the high score club. I agree that it's a well done game, and the voices are great, the pause does not detract from the game at all.

But I was playing on an Xbox controller. Not sure how it would work with the stock controllers.

If you guys like Berzerk on 5200 you should really check out Frenzy on ColecoVision. There aren't any voices, but these are replaced with an excellent soundtrack. There is also the Frantic homebrew (unfinished) which takes the game concept to the next level. They are both very worth sequels.

    Frantic is amazing,

    can't believe it's the 2600

Haven't played it on the 2600. I was talking about the ColecoVision homebrew.

  8. I played a little of 2600 Berzerk -- just the default game with "B" difficulty -- and it felt as though I could play for an hour if I wanted to (I know I probably couldn't). I'm not kidding you -- I'm a pretty decent twitch player, and some games of 5200 Berzerk last only a couple of minutes. I've only played a few dozen times, but still. It's still very fair and very risk-rewardy.

yep, one of the 5200 gems

  9. Though the A8 is amazing,

you won't get the same retro-arcade experience the 5200 can provide

In your opinion, however, I can only think of a handful of games that use an analog controller

There were very few retro-arcade games that use analog controls too. All my favorites used standard arcade joysticks that work the same as classic Atari joysticks but of arcade quality, and as far as rotary or trackball games, the 8-bit has those too.

The ONLY way you will get a retro-arcade experience is on the actual arcade machines or mame. the 5200 and 8-bit are retro, but not arcade.

the 5200 was the home arcade of the early 80's

the A8 only the greatest computer

    nah, that was the Colecovision

The CV was amazing, though didn't have the arcade names of the day

  10. didn't mean resolutions on paper,

put a c64 and a speccy game side to side

usually the spectrum version looks better , though mostly monochrome

Well, "better" is subjective opinion of course but the majority of C64 games use the 2:1 pixel multicolour mode because the designers chose to do that. If you compare like for like, the earlier Dizzy games, Monty on the Run or Star Quake are all 1:1 pixel graphics and a higher resolution on the C64.

(This comparison has to be done on real hardware of course, emulator screenshots aren't stretched out in the same way the real machine is on a telly...)

so you 're saying they chose to lower the resolution of their c64 games?

    don't think so...
