This looks very cool! I've played the Speccy version via Fuse (and the GBA remake which is not half bad), and my 800XL does need some new software!

Is there a SAP file of the music? I'd like to listen to it outside of the demo.

Don't need a video upgrade for the 800; the video output from it is plenty solid.

The Ingcognito has other upgrades on it too. Claus has said he may look into doing an "incognito lite" in the near future.
That's the one I was looking at! It's definitely a great looking expansion for the 800, but yeah, I've not had luck finding any as of late, at least not cheap enough!

Asking on behalf of a friend:
Out of curiosity, I was wondering if there are any expansions for the Atari 800, much in the vein of the expansions we have for the Atari XL/XE computers (RAM expansion, etc.)
The Atari 800 maxes out officially at 48K RAM, which isn't enough for most of the homebrew games and such that target 64K+ RAM systems. I remember reading a long time back about some RAM expansions and such that do work on the Atari 800, but it's been ages and I'm wondering if most of that information is still relevant or not.
One I remember reading about was the Incognito card (?), which gave the 800 a nice RAM boost. I *think* that was the name of it? (see what I mean by it's been ages? )
Anywho, can anyone point me to some good expansions that target the good old 800 computer that may still be available for purchase somewhere? I don't need anything like a SIO2SD or an Ultimate Cart; those are handled already.

Would something like this be possible on Atari 8-bit as well? A Mega Man game on the Atari computers or the XEGS would be truly awesome!

Wow I had dreams of seeing Konami games on the 2600 I even made this mockup of Gradius
I can picture this being a Melody cart game on the VCS!
And technically, Super Cobra *is* a Konami game...

The best old school Castlevania game, and a brilliant cover!

Can you make a SAP file of this so I can listen to it on my devices?

Mappy for the 2600 looks absolutely crazy! Leave it to Champ Games to code up some awesome games!

If only Mega Man *had* come to the Atari 7800...

I'd love to see for the 5200:
Bubbles
Journey Escape!
Secret of NIMH
Smurfs
Zoo Keeper
Elevator Action
Joust 2:Survival of the Fittest
Marble Madness
Food Fight
Double Dragon
Championship Sprint
Pole Position 2
Macross
The Legend of Kage
Mappy
E.T.
+1 on Bubbles, Zoo Keeper, Elevator Action, and Legend of Kage! All of those games would rock on the 5200! I especially would love to hear the music from Legend of Kage played on the POKEY!

Holy Bootleg Bonanza, Batman!

If I had to pick...
> Marble Madness
> Commando
> David's Midnight Magic
> Crazy Climber
> Moon Cresta
> Time Pilot
> Gradius (a bit of a stretch? The NES got a port and that system has less RAM (2K) than the Atari 5200 (16K) )
> Rally-X
> Mappy

I have Sinistar in my collection, and that is one excellent conversion! Highly recommended!
But now that I see that Super Pac-Man is available...

I've seen Atari Flashback Portables at my local Target dropping to as low as $40. I've been a little curious as to how they are, but is it worth picking one up? Are there any caveats I should be aware of? How is game compatibility? How is hardware emulation?
The only Flashback I've ever had was the Flashback 2 (I have two of those), but the Portable seems interesting.

I have several PAL 1040STE's that work on 110V.
They need a good cleaning, but I'd be willing to sell one for $175+shipping if you're interested.
Color monitor SC1224 $50+shipping.
I'm in the US.
PM me pics. I have to wait for a bit on purchases because I'm traveling soon, but perhaps afterwards I might consider one!

Very nice cover! I like the slightly slowed down tempo as well; it gives it a more powerful feel!

While not technically an exclusive (it was also on Amiga and MS-DOS), Zool 2 could have been on other platforms. The first Zool was on SNES I think. Why not a Zool 2 on N64?
The first Zool was released for the Amiga (in OCS, AGA, and CD32 flavors), Atari ST, DOS, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Sega Master System. I have copies of the Amiga OCS, DOS, and SNES ports in my library.
The second game was released on Amiga (same versions as the first), DOS, and the Jaguar.
Problem is though is that although Zool 2 looks great on the platforms it came out on, it would've looked far too basic for the N64 and would've been met with some nasty derision for being a 16-bit game on a 64-bit platform. And IIRC the Jaguar version did get such harsh reception from some gaming magazines back in the day.
If anything, if Gremlin had N64 dev kits, they could've done a Zool 64 on the Nintendo 64 and go the whole "3D platforming" route. But they didn't, and whether that's a wise move or not remains subject to opinion.

Every final Friday of every month, Digital Press in Clifton, NJ hosts NAVA events, usually centered around various themes. Their Facebook and Twitter feeds usually will announce NAVA events a week or two ahead of time so people can gear up and head out to them.

Here's a machine I've been curious about but have never seen often enough in the wild: the Atari ST.
Unlike the Amiga, which I seriously desired as a kid (and I have two models now: a 500 and a 4000!), the Atari ST tickled my curiosity but wasn't one of those "Oooh, I've gotta have it right now!" type of desires.
Nowadays, though, I thought it would be pretty neat to check out the actual Atari ST hardware and see what it's all about!
I do have some experience using Atari TOS thanks to Hatari, and I have sampled some games and demos on the platform. It's enough to wet my beak and get me interested in wanting to maybe add one
to my collection!
My problem, however, is that, like other retro computers of the time, the prices for Atari STs (and even the STE) have shot through the roof to ridiculous, exonerate prices on eBay and even Amibay. To make matters worse, most auctions and sales that I see are all in Europe (and I'm in the USA), which would mean that shipping would be absolute murder, and I'd also have to then spend money on things like step-down transformers and plug adapters.
So my question is this: what's a fair going price for an Atari ST? I'd prefer an STE model; it can have 1MB RAM minimum and that's fine. Hell, it doesn't even need to come with cables; since the PSU is internal on STE models and is a standard 3-prong PC lead, I can supply one. I just need a mouse and I'm good.
Send some ideas my way and I'll work from there!

Here's a long list of BBS's that are still alive and kicking.

How to do it in Dosbox for that uber-authentic feel:

Just gotta dig out RIPTerm and I'm set to go! RIPTerm was my jam back in the day!

I'm happy to see the BBS scene reviving again! I used to frequent a good number of BBSes back in the day (and I used to keep a listing of all the BBSes I dialed into, along with numbers, in a notebook that I loaded over the years with notes and info on them, as well as all of the needed incantations for modems!)
Some of the new modern favorites I'm enjoying nowadays are Level 29 BBS, Particles! BBS, and BlackICE BBS, to name a few!
Doom : Slayer Edition
in Atari Jaguar

The Nightmare Spectre on PS1 Doom was simply a flag that was set that doubled a monster's health and gave them that negative color scheme. Theoretically you could flag any monster with the "Nightmare" flag in PS1 Doom and the same effect applies.
That same flag could also be theoretically recreated for another version of Doom.
