  1. Every final Friday of every month, Digital Press in Clifton, NJ hosts NAVA events, usually centered around various themes. Their Facebook and Twitter feeds usually will announce NAVA events a week or two ahead of time so people can gear up and head out to them.
  2. Here's a machine I've been curious about but have never seen often enough in the wild: the Atari ST. Unlike the Amiga, which I seriously desired as a kid (and I have two models now: a 500 and a 4000!), the Atari ST tickled my curiosity but wasn't one of those "Oooh, I've gotta have it right now!" type of desires. Nowadays, though, I thought it would be pretty neat to check out the actual Atari ST hardware and see what it's all about! I do have some experience using Atari TOS thanks to Hatari, and I have sampled some games and demos on the platform. It's enough to wet my beak and get me interested in wanting to maybe add one to my collection! My problem, however, is that, like other retro computers of the time, the prices for Atari STs (and even the STE) have shot through the roof to ridiculous, exonerate prices on eBay and even Amibay. To make matters worse, most auctions and sales that I see are all in Europe (and I'm in the USA), which would mean that shipping would be absolute murder, and I'd also have to then spend money on things like step-down transformers and plug adapters. So my question is this: what's a fair going price for an Atari ST? I'd prefer an STE model; it can have 1MB RAM minimum and that's fine. Hell, it doesn't even need to come with cables; since the PSU is internal on STE models and is a standard 3-prong PC lead, I can supply one. I just need a mouse and I'm good. Send some ideas my way and I'll work from there!
  3. Just gotta dig out RIPTerm and I'm set to go! RIPTerm was my jam back in the day!
  4. Amy-ITX boards are on preorder again?? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!! :D

  5. I'm happy to see the BBS scene reviving again! I used to frequent a good number of BBSes back in the day (and I used to keep a listing of all the BBSes I dialed into, along with numbers, in a notebook that I loaded over the years with notes and info on them, as well as all of the needed incantations for modems!) Some of the new modern favorites I'm enjoying nowadays are Level 29 BBS, Particles! BBS, and BlackICE BBS, to name a few!

  9. I'm also running MorphOS on a Mac Mini G4 I picked up from eBay for super cheap. It's lightning fast on the system; dare I say it runs rings around Mac OS X 10.4, especially in terms of system bootup and application launching! I replaced the old 40GB hard drive with a 120GB SSD (a spare mSATA drive in a PATA adapter), and the performance has since shot through the roof; MorphOS used to boot in about 10 seconds (from initial logo to the desktop), and with the SSD it takes only about 2 seconds! Since it's great for running system friendly Amiga apps on (basically anything that doesn't bang on the custom chipset), I'll be keeping it around for some Amiga-like action while I get my Amiga 4000 recapped and repaired!
  10. Nice cover! I have a soft spot for the sounds of the POKEY chip; my very first console was an Atari 5200, so the sounds of the POKEY always bring a nostalgic smile to my face!
  11. Received my PCB on Monday! It looks great! Time to piecemeal build this bad boy!
  12. So much of my childhood right here in the 5200. It was my first console!
  13. I don't know if this is exactly what you're after, but... I purchased this upscaler which accepts a SCART connector and will output HDMI with the option of even separating audio out to coaxial or headphones. It also accepts both PAL and NTSC signals, which is great for if you need to hook a PAL console up to a monitor or TV. Here's the link to it on Amazon: http://a.co/b9YIu9i
  14. Declaring interest in purchasing a bare PCB; either color is fine.
  15. Does http://electronicsentimentalities.com/ still offer the A/V mods for the Atari 5200? I don't see the service listed on the site.
