Microsoft's AI Just Shattered the Ms. Pac-Man High Score
negative1 replied to Flojomojo's topic in Atari 2600
i'm impressed. after playing the 2600 version, it definitely has a difficulty curve (not as hard as the arcade though). would like to see more video of the gameplay though. later -1 -
Actually, the article might not be that wrong. But since Microsoft doesn't give out that information, except a quote about minutes played, there's really nothing else to go on. Original XBOX games coming is easier, since is X86 based, there's also talk of porting those games to the PC also. later -1

I don't know if that's retracting it, because they still left some things as is. However, they did state they changed parts of their original analysis. In other backwards news, they are thinking of adding Original XBOX games to backwards compatibility. Don't know how many games or people would need that. later -1

yeah, it looks like stun runner, mixed with blaster and a little bit of star wars arcade. actually the graphics aren't as psychedelic as i thought they would be. rez and children of eden were trippier. i think he could have done a lot more with them, however he deliberately kept them lo-fi retro looking. the worst part is the music isn't that great. i still listen to the tempest 2k soundtrack to this day. later -1

I have been playing pac-man, galaga, and dig dug from the namco arcade classics. Anyone have issues with them? ---------------- - None of the games update the leaderboards, i was on them when they first came out, but now when I get a new high score, no updates at all - I think galaga on defaults has the wrong behavior on certain stages. Some of them like level 10, they are not supposed to fire. Here it happens at the wrong time. later -1

or maybe some with atari, or midway? later -1

wrong game, thats the one with the killscreen. this new pac man 256 is a completely different game: https://venturebeat.com/2016/05/23/pac-man-256-comes-to-playstation-4-xbox-one-and-pc-with-multiplayer/ later -1

don't have a switch (or plan to get one)... but it's cool namco is milking these games again on this sytem. the worst part will be the controls, as most will need an actual joystick to play properly. then there could be some real competition for the high scores. later -1

What's up with Nintendo hardware shortages?
negative1 replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Modern Console Discussion
nintendo clearly doesn't care about profits: 2011 - profit 2012-2014 3 years of loss http://www.theverge.com/2015/5/7/8564303/nintendo-fy-2014-earnings 2015 profit 2016 loss so this year, putting efforts on the switch is the only priority they have, and not the nintendo classic which is why it was a limited edition. later -1 -
Retro-gaming emulators no longer permitted on Windows Store
negative1 replied to JamesD's topic in Modern Console Discussion
i'm surprised people worry about playing cd's, i have a few thousand of them, but i rarely use them. i've converted most to digital. -------- back on topic, despite trying to say other consoles don't have other features, they are easily added or have them also. online video playback, media playback are all part of them. the switch isn't really being pushed as a home console, but more of a portable, but it still has other features, despite being a hybrid. later -1 -
Retro-gaming emulators no longer permitted on Windows Store
negative1 replied to JamesD's topic in Modern Console Discussion
no recent console is just a console that only plays games. those days are long gone... all companies are guilty of adding extra features to them, not just microsoft. later -1 -

actually, it mostly annoys people wanting to use emulators on the xbox one... however, i'm sure there will be a way around that too.. later -1 -

what percentage of gamers use steering wheels?
negative1 replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
yes, and no.... i play them all the time with a controller, and since there's so little motion from the analog stick, it's a lot easier on the hands....i've also played them with a controller on the pc with emulation and got faster times, and better results than i did with the arcade, and steering wheels. so yes, it might make the games easier to play, but not necessarily better for experts, depending on what you get used to. then again, i haven't played each game hundreds of times in the arcades, whereas playing at home with a controller, is what i got used to. later -1 -

What's up with Nintendo hardware shortages?
negative1 replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Modern Console Discussion
we live in a society of instant gratitude, competition, and people that thrive on their status when they own something desirable. is it any surprise when people behave in the early adopter manner? it's just basic psychology. it's not going to change as long as there are people. even if there weren't any shortages, there would still be people adopting early. later -1 -
With the current market of consoles, and online gaming networks, store, and online content. Microsoft is definitely in the lead, with Sony slowly catching up. Nintendo has shown that they have no clue on how to setup an online network, gaming, or market. If this continues, as it has been for the near future. They will definitely be the ones to drop out. later -1

Nintendo all the way. Don't see them lasting much longer, especially after the last few consoles (not including the wii, which was an anomaly).. Microsoft and Sony have invested quite a bit, and are enjoying the areas they are good at. Nintendo might resign themselves to portables, but even that is small compared to phone and mobile gaming. later -1
