  1. That sounds awesome to me and i dont understand why there haven't been more projects along those lines for Vectrex, considering that it is the most accessible and almost the only way to display real vector graphics. .. I think it has already been demonstrated that numerous old vector arcade games can display on Vectrex, using external hardware, emulators and a vector generator. .. Would be sweet to have something like a Super Vectrex add on, something that plugged in the Vectrex cartridge port, had its own CPU and cart slot, a system that would allow new and continued software developement at a higher level, without modifying the Vectrex itself.
  2. I purchased a small lot of 2600 games from Andy a week or so ago. Package arrived quickly and it was a smooth and pleasant transaction. Thanks!
  3. If I wanted all these games my GOAL would be to pay accordingly: Narzod 30 Scramble 15 Star Trek 10 Hyperchase 10 Cosmic Chasm 20 Bedlam 20 Armor Attack 15 Spin Ball 10 Pole Position 80 Web Wars 30 Solar Quest 10 I wouldn't pay 150 for Pole Position but CIB it would easily sell for that on ebay, even in not so great condition. I also wouldn't pay 35-40 each for the games that you bought, but again that IS about what they go for on ebay, sometimes more. Narzod and Web Wars are two of the very best Vectrex games, and they usually sell for higher than the others on this list, $50 or so each, though I would not pay that much. If you really want Pole Position, I would offer 275 for the lot, and consider you get a bit of a discount for buying the whole thing and making it an easy local cash transaction for the seller. .. Minus Pole Position, I would offer 175 for the rest and you'd be doing better than those particular games typically sell for on ebay INDIVIDUALLY. .. But again buying lots is a different game, and less consistent in price on ebay. .. If you can go without the boxes you can often find auctions with less competition. The OVERLAY for Web Wars is one of THE top manditory Vectrex articles in my opinion. It's a great game and 10X better with the overlay than without, and you can easily (and legally) get the game program on a multicart or flashcart. .. So if you can't get everything for a decent deal you might at least be able to snag Web Wars/Narzod. Maybe he doesn't know they are better than the others. .. In my opinion the overlays are the most important thing in appraising by the way. Some overlays are cracked or badly damaged, or missing altogether.
  4. I have a few duplicate games formerly available through classicgamecreations.com, including PROTECTOR, which I MIGHT part with. I'd prefer a trade, but I am wary doing so with a new member and presumably outside of America? .. I'd be interested in Vectrex overlays (Web Wars, Fortress of Narzod), Vectrex controllers, Vectrex game boxes, flash carts for Nintendo consoles, maybe other stuff. furyunlimited.com .. I don't think you need to be "in contact with him". I believe he ships everywhere and you can simply make your purchase from his site using Paypal.
  5. Thanks for doing this and letting us know about it Ozyr. Nice to hear some backstory too. .. I was wondering if you will offer Vectrex "cartridge building service", like John used to do? He carged A really reasonable fee for a "custom cart", any ROM that you provided him, with the author's permission to reproduce.
  6. The only thing I even consider completing is Vectrex because it is my favorite and because it is a fairly small library. Also the ratio of good to bad on Vectrex is probably the best there is, in my opinion. Most of it is good. ... But with rare homebrews that I missed out on, and the price for a 3D imager, even a complete Vectrex collection is not a goal of mine. The 3D stuff is out of my range for the time being. I don't collect 2600 at all yet, but it astounds me that people aim for even remotely complete collections for this console. Same with NES. Unless you have some professional or philanthropic goal with this, I don't see how you justify that. I don't understand the purpose. Outside of Vectrex, I very strictly limit myself to the games that I really like and stand behind, plus in some cases games that I don't particularly enjoy but which have some unique feature to them. I do not want a bloated collection of games that I don't like. For some consoles there are fewer than 10 games that I would even allow to enter my collection, and if I ended up with others I would stash them away carelessly. "Curating" to me has nothing to do with collecting every last bit of everything that was ever produced and every piece of packaging etc. I'm not saying that there is no reason for anybody to do this. But hoarding every single thing is not a very interesting curatorial approach, in my opinion. If you like what you are collecting, your collection should be interesting and dynamic and have some sort of character to it. It's a more interesting presentation if it involves discriminating choices that you have made, rather than being an encyclopedia of the subject.
  7. Hmmm. ... Well the division of Pre-NES and Post-NES is a very significant one. The NES arguably constitutes the re-birth of video games and the origin of "modern gaming". ... Among other things, the NES was a console that embraced the parameters of CONSOLE gaming, rather than serving as a substitute for the arcades. If a younger "retro gamer" is starting there, I would say that it is a very good place to start. For sure there is a TON of stuff that came before it, but the NES offers a very substantial as well as a comparatively primitive survey of the roots of what gaming is today.
  8. Well it sounds interesting and indeed the Vectrex gamers are a devoted bunch, so there will be interest if there is anything even marginally exciting here. ... How do you go about encountering such "prototypes", if you don't mind my asking?

    Vectrex?

mkiker, if you are interested in Vectrex, which it looks like you are, I think you absolutely have to get one. It is a completely awesome console without rival for what it does. If money is a concern you do have to be patient and careful. I spent over $2,000 on Vectrex loot in 2012, but it had become an obsession for me. You can get a good start for about $300. Now may not be the best time to buy. It looks like ebay is more competitive right now than it was in the winter. I'm not sure if it's seasonal or if there is a spike in Vectrex interest. ... When I was buying, my goal was to pay $100 for working consoles in fair condition. In order to get close to that goal I had to watch a lot of auctions and usually buy a larger lot with games, for which others were priced out I guess. ... Right now $200 looks like an average price for working console on ebay. In my experience, the number one thing that you need to verify before buying a "working" Vectrex console, is the screen alignment. Many Vectrexes, perhaps even MOST of them, are off center. A small amount off center is acceptable, but I have seen ones where it is DRAMATICALLY off center, to the point of being unplayable. ... As already mentioned, the Vectrex homebrew scene is amazing. However, it looks like there are some changes coming as classicgamecreations.com has announced they will shut down in December. This is John Dondzila's site, and the best and biggest source for CHEAP Vectrex homebrews. YOU SHOULD TRY TO BUY PROTECTOR AND GRAVITREX AS SOON AS YOU CAN, even if you don't have a Vectrex yet. Most Vectrex homebrews are sold directly by their authors and I only know of one other site besides CGC that sells a variety, (Good Deal Games), and their selection is not nearly as big as CGC.
  10. I just assembled a list (for a poll) of RASTER games to port to Vectrex. Several of the games recommended in this thread made that list! http://vectorgaming.proboards.com/thread/623/which-raster-games-ported-vectrex# It was fun and interesting for me to go through all these games and look at them together as a group, in a list. Several of the games I would not even know existed if not for folks recommending them in this thread. But some of these more obscure titles also look like some of the best candidates to me. If you'd like to vote you'll have to join up at the Vector Gaming Proboards forums. The next person who joins will be member number 100! Here is the list: Donkey Kong Eagle Stargate/Defender II Nebulus/Castelian/Tower Toppler Twister: Mother of Harlots Space Harrier Adventure Juno First Zaxxon Kid Icarus Zoom! Marble Madness Sinistar Dungeons of Daggorath Tron Master of the Lamps Qix Dig Dug I, Robot And here is a list of the raster games that have already been ported to Vectrex: Scramble, Berzerk, Pole Position, Defender, Space Invaders, Frogger, Phoenix, Joust, Gyruss, Missile Command, Galaxian, Tetris, Time Pilot, Moon Patrol, QBert, Trakkers and Thrust have all at least been attempted already. Pac Man was excluded due to its similarity to Clean Sweep. Also Qix actually HAS already been ported, but it's too late for me to remove it from the poll. I meant to include GORF, but forgot. Also too late to add it. Poll includes 'game that is not on this list' as a voting option in case your game is missing.
  11. In my opinion you have to have at least a couple of overlays to get the real Vectrex experience. The most essential overlays are WEB WARS and POLE POSITION. Both games are MUCH more impressive with the overlays. These are also two of the best games from the original library. Pole Position is expensive ($100+) but Web Wars is more attainable (under $50). If you don't have a working GCE controller, I'd FIRST go for one of the converted pad controllers (snes or genesis) from Recycled gamer. These are easier and cheaper and quicker to get than the original ones and you are really going to want one of these in your collection long term anyway. The original controller is wonderful, but there are some games, (especially some of the homebrews) which are extremely difficult with the old controller, and much more playable with a SNES pad. As already mentioned, Protector is an amazing homebrew clone of Defender. I don't think it was mentioned that you can buy it today from classicgamecreations.com for about $12!!!! ... I always use my converted SNES pad to play this game. If you have friends to play Vectrex with and if you do get two working controllers, I agree with fiddlepaddle that RIP OFF is great. (Not so great for one player). Overlay is also a must for this game. Multicarts are overrated in my opinion. My favorite homebrews: I,Cyborg (out of print) Gravitrex (classicgamecreations.com) Protector (classicgamecreations.com) War of the Worlds 2011 (furyunlimited.com) favorite GCE games: Web Wars Fortress of Narzod Pole Position Cosmic Chasm Rip Off (2 players) Bedlam
  12. I'd love to get my hands on an Adventure Vision. .. I wasn't aware they used a battery? I remember seeing the near mint and complete boxed Adventure Vision w/ Games that sold for like $4000 on ebay. Has anyone ever seen a working played with Adventure Vision sell? What's a fair price?
  13. Thanks for confirming the process derik. Glad to hear you were able to make your order. Unfortunately, that is EXACTLY what I did when I tried to order Debris on April 18th. I emailed "[email protected]", with subject: "Purchase Vectrex Game Cartridge". The message is still in my Sent folder, with no replies. Nothing in my Spam or Trash folder pertaining to this. Maybe I should make my inquiry in another language?
  14. Received mine today. Any chance you have extra cases to sell? Or maybe the case is a common one I can easily replace? I asked this in another thread before I saw this one.
  15. Got mine today. It looks well built and functions great too. Thanks golden.ax! I didn't realize VecVoice and VecVox were two different things. So potentially lots of switching back and forth for us Vectrex folks. I'd like to experiment with modding the case for instant access. Now that I have mine and have opened it up and seen that the case is entirely separate from the unit itself - I wonder if there are spare cases available for me to mess around with??? Any chance you'd sell me a few empty AtariVox+ cases, the.golden.ax??? I'm asking in public here because I imagine others would also have an interest in this.
  16. Are you sure this game is still available? I just inquired about it by emailing the contact on that website a couple days ago, awaiting response. ... I feel like I've done this before though. Or maybe there's something I'm missing about how to order from revival-studios...
  17. Yes, I know. He also replied to my PM. I'm just wary now because of the circumstances.
  18. Holy sh!jt! Obviously I did not notice. Is it possible he is really still selling this stuff?
  19. Ok, sorry. Attached picture shows exactly what it was I was looking at.
  20. It looks like there is a (red) chunk of the color wheel missing? See pic looking closeup at the front of the visor.
  21. I agree it's a pretty good price. I am sorely tempted. Have wanted the 3D imager for a long time. Still it's a lot of money for me though.
  22. I have reviewed this entire thread, and I think I know the answer to this question, but I'm asking anyway, to confirm for sure: When used with Vectrex, will the AtariVox+ output all game audio through the headphone jack??? Or does it exclusively output sound specifically programmed for it in game cartridges, while other sound still plays through the internal Vectrex speaker? ... I'm happy to have got in on this at the last minute, one way or the other. Paid for mine today! Awesome to see it come to fruition after all this time. Thank you, to all the folks who have worked on this.
  23. Pole Position and Polar Rescue have for a long time been valued at or above $100 CIB, but Star Castle seems to have increased in value in the past year or so. Lots of people want it for some reason. Totally overrated game in my opinion. On Vectrex, the Star Castle overlay is sized in such a way that the colors don't line up with the rings around the castle. I'm sure it's the best console version of the game though.
