  1. That is an English phrase to indicate that something is Excellent and then some. The chips referred to are what you would call french fries.
  2. Albert and old cs1 spent how long? sorting and moving threads and now insanemultitasker comes up with an idea to make them do it all over again!
  3. As I understand it, it requires 1 cycle to transfer each bit of data, if ports were memory mapped I/O could work 16 times faster. It has to be the worst idea ever.
  4. I just used this to download turboforth from sourceforge, It was free so I do not think it is a scam, we shall see if I downloaded an infected file.
  5. Ok, I imagined you simply downloaded a copy of the program and then duplicated a hundred cassettes or disks from it, but do you have proof that royalties have been paid? Very few programmers who have given their work free of charge to the community would be happy to see anyone profiting financially from it.
  6. I think it would be worse if he changed his name because then people would not know his true intentions, if he came clean and said he would pay royalties on each copy, that would help his image and encourage programmers to offer their creations to him, there are software publishers for other old systems and they can be beneficial to that scene as they can provide a one stop shop for all or most homebrew software, especially if they supply that software in a nice box with manual, cassette, disk or even cartridge. He would then be an asset to the community rather than leeching off it.
  7. A few months ago, I read about a CPC emulator running on the RPi it was not as fast as a real CPC so what's the point, the TI may be slow but I doubt that the RPi could emulate it at full speed.
  8. You can get a single chip ram organised as 1M x 16 bits (2 megabytes), add a paging circuit and put it under the 9900 in the console, it could then "page out" all the 8 bit nonsense, only paging it back in when absolutely necessary, add a new operating system and then you will see what the 9900 is really capable of.
  9. You would need to ask the builder why he used cut down connectors, are they a common item?, maybe he could not afford to buy the minimum order quantity or maybe it is cheaper to cut down the connectors.
  10. My nanopeb is like that, the connector is cut down from a larger size. I would be suprised if any had a genuine 22 pin connector.
  11. If you have the 16 bit memory and speed upgrades fitted, are there any programs which will not run? If you write software, do you make it tolerant of these upgrades? I am considering installing these upgrades, both have switches to disable them, but I do not want to drill holes in the casing to fit these switches if they are unnecessary. Thanks.
  12. It just seemed to me that the F18A had a 9900 compatible processor, a video display processor and used 16k of external ram, all it needs is for this ram to be replaced with 64k and a sound chip included in the FPGA, and there is a 99/4a replacement, you've done most of the work already and it could be another earner for you.
  13. What would it take to turn the F18A into a full 99/4a replacement?
  14. This was posted with Firefox 24, but I did have to login twice.
  15. I read where someone suggested placing the new ram over the top of an installed ram so that all the legs made contact and apply the power, if it worked, you had found the faulty ram, if not then move the ram to the next chip and try again, it seems it would be quicker than desoldering and resoldering all the chips.
  16. Thanks for the replies, I do not have my ti99/4A set up yet, I am still acquiring parts.
  17. I have one of the new nanopebs, I read that the speech synth does not work with the nanopeb, is this still the case or is that just the older nanopeb or even cf7?
  18. I use Firefox and have had no problems with this site.
  19. Well if DMA is not possible, it will take some thought to come up with another way of installing a new OS. It may be easier to start from scratch and build a single board computer with 16 bit ram and an F18A.
  20. Yes, I realised that after posting, but Matthew could tell me if the F18A can hold a program in flash to execute on reset, then begin sending the new OS. Then some DMA mechanism will load the OS into ram. I'm not sure what you are saying here, I intend to disable the roms and replace them with ram, so the roms cannot do anything. I may end up copying the roms to high memory, switching out the roms, switching in the lower ram and jumping to the start of the new OS. but it is really more hardware than I would like.
  21. Hi, Matthew, I am thinking about installing the internal 16 bit ram mod, if I used 32KB chips I could have up to 64KB of 16-bit ram (with some addressing modifications). If I disabled the GPL roms, could the F18A act as a "bootloader" copying the GPL code, on reset, from its flash rom into the 16-bit ram, then I would have the option of overwriting the GPL interpreter with a monitor/DOS to use the machine almost like any other computer. It would take a lot of work, but if the F18A can be a bootloader, then I will give it a try.
  22. Categories would need to include the hardware on which the program runs, ie, console only, console plus minimem, console plus 32k ram etc. Simplest is probably to use an emulator. Or was the use of an emulator implied?
  23. You could probably do the same thing with a CF7/Nano-peb.
  24. There is one site I used to use which automatically logged you out after about 10 minutes, I would be reading posts and when I wanted to post a reply, I would find myself logged out and have to log in again.
  25. All gone. , and thank you Kevan for bringing it to my attention.
