coleco 1990

When smurfs is played player 1 jumps by itself with no controllers plugged in it works normally in another colecovision and when playing donkeykong I can go up the latter but cant go back down the ladder. Then player 2 can go only forward, cannot jump but does jump once without touching the controller and the blue player skill level select screen only shows for a split second. What can cause this?
