  1. Or maybe an available add-on cart adapter. Nothing you would have to solder or anything like that, but maybe have a port on it that you could buy the optional hardware for. Not a bad idea, having both or option of both.

Can't weigh in on to much discussed here for obvious reasons. But I will say that a cartridge port is not an option, as has been explained plenty of times before by Curt and my self. Media card slot, possibly. But not a cartridge slot.
It's unfortunate that a disclaimer of Not guaranteed to work with 20+ year old cartridges (stuck across a brand new 2600a type cart slot) cannot be used to satisfy technical problems, i.e., wear and tear (which I find quite rare). I know this has been discussed before.

A media card slot would be a definite plus and make it a must buy, IMHO.

Maybe they could put on both? A cartridge slot for collectors and those who appreciate Atari's history, and a media slot for those conveniences of modern life. Out of curiosity though, have a lot of people had many problems with there carts? I've had old Atari's go bad, but cartridges for the most part always seem to work.

You'd think that Atari (if they were to go the retro route) could sell this new system that is cart based, and make carts that could hold dozens of games on them. Make like a "Sports Pack" and "Arcade Pack". If we are dealing with newer hardware, make the arcade ports available alongside there 2600, 5200, and 7800 counterparts. This could be done now, couldn't it?

Ugh, this is getting a little messy with the top post/bottom post thingy, but nowhere near the record on AA.

Anyhow, a major problem is that the hardware would need to be close to 100% compatible with the original Atari 2600's, or we'll run into the Flashback 2 RevA problems where IIRC production engineers changed the schematics on production boards and this caused compatibility problems that were discovered by those who hacked in their cart slots.

I'm all for having cart slots and media slots for a portable FB; soldering in my own - not really.

  2. Hey Rick,

Too bad I missed this nice auction ;) :

You wouldn't happen to know where I can find instructions for those games would you? I have gotten real good at watching things speed at me and dying, but I haven't a clue as to what I'm supposed to be doing. Other than run away from the things that keep killing me.

    Hex.

[ Has been uninspired as of late... ]

i'll try to find my instructions this weekend and i'll make you a copy of them.

    Rick

Or you could just look here for the text version; it's been awhile... ;)

(The posted rom works with the emulator but the scanlines are wrong on a real 2600, but the cart version is correct!)

    Cheers,

    Tony

  4. Assuming this isn't going to happen as a Flashback project, should this thread be locked and unpinned then along with the FB2 portable thread, and maybe a separate thread be started up under "Dedicated Systems" for Curt's new project? I'm not sure who we talk to about locking and unpinning it. Maybe we should talk to Albert?
If/when it's dead as a doornail (or was that doorknob, I forget)...

  5. Glad that AA is back on-line. Hopefully this site backed-up somewhere else, in case the hosting servers and their back-ups go down for whatever reason (I'm probably just showing my ignorance on the subject). I heard about the explosion, but I didn't connect the event to the fact that I couldn't connect to the AtariAge site; I thought it was a bad connection on my side.

  6. If you swapped the left and right controllers and the problem is with one of the joysticks and not the console, you may be able to acquire a joystick from someone here in these forums, as many here are honest folk (but do your homework), or you can try e-bay (a bit more risky). Atari 2600 joysticks will work in FB2's although the joysticks don't fit all too well.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can visit the Best Electronics website and research joystick repairs; they also have joystick parts available, but if I recall, the FB2 joysticks were designed slightly different from the original 2600 ones. There may be a thread if you do a search somewhere in this forum about repairing FB2 joysticks.

It's not impossible, but takes a lot of converting. It may be easier (and save you lots of time) to upgade your ram to at least 512MB to convert with CYOA's graphics tables. (I know that Nukey used the lower-bit zeros to read double or single rows in his higher rez 8kAdvent; he helped me use even higher numbers for HAT.)
