  1. I have to say that I recently got a ColecoVision system that included a pair of the normal controllers and a pair of the Super Action controllers and I have to agree with you. People have been crapping on the 5200 controllers for 23 years and I don't get it. The ColecoVision controllers are great? Not! The Super Action controllers are great? They're better than the stock ColecoVision controllers but still not that great. I also got an Intellivision for christmas. Oh yea, that disk is awesome... yea right. Don't get me wrong, both the ColecoVision and Intellivision are fine systems with some really fun games, but come on, you're telling me that their controllers are better than the 5200? I don't think so...
  2. Well there is a color adjust pot in the 5200. You could try adjusting that...

    Emulator

I'll second that. I have a couple for my PC, one for my Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast. I like the Dreamcast one best. Of course I spend most of my time playing on the real thing though
  4. Wow, I was a huge Vanguard fan when it first came out and I don't remember it talking at all. I must be getting old...
  5. The only problem I ever had with the 5200 controllers was their durability. In fact they are my favorite controllers from any system at that time. Did they suck? No. Did they break? Unfortunately yes... But as you said, ever since I got the new gold plated contacts controllers I love them.
  6. Yup, I bought 2 also. They are better than the original controllers were when they were new. Highly recommended.
  7. Anyone have any ideas why my second joystick port would act this way? The up/down is fine but the left/right jumps from one extreme to the other....
  8. I tried both joysticks using Missle Command. Port 2 is even more screwed up than I thought. When I go left or right its acts like it's digital, it only jumps from one side to the other. The up and down actually seems to work fine. I guess thats why the diagonals work and the straight up and down doesn't. It's actually the left right jumping from one extreme to the other that's the problem...
  9. Hi all, I'm having a problem with the second joystick port of my 4 port 5200. The second joystick can't see to shoot straight up or down. Side to side works fine and so do all the diagonals. Joystick port 1 works fine and when I switch the joysticks port 2 still has the same problem, so it's not the sticks. Kinda makes Robotron and Space dungeon a pain when I can't shoot up or down. Anyone have any ideas why this would be? I would have thought the diagonals wouldn't work if it was an up/down problem so I'm kinda confused... Thanks
  10. I was hoping to buy one of these multicarts myself but they're not on bidiots anymore...
  11. I guess it's like they say... Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. Personally I love this game. One of the best 2 player games I've ever played IMO. But like I said about opinions....

  13. Get a real Atari 5200 Actually I've had one since it first came out  I just find it easier sometimes to fire up an emulator to get in a couple of quick games....
  14. I've never gotten Star Trek to work in any emulator. I've tried Atari800Win, Atari800DC for Dreamcast, XPorts Atari 5200 emultor for the Xbox, etc.
  15. Hi, I was just wondering if there was any patches or anything that I can do about Atari 5200 games that don't start in an emulator. Star Trek and Pitfall imediately come to mind as 2 games that I can't get to start in my 5200 emulator. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do. Thanks
  16. I used this guide: 5200 START = Map to 4 5200 * = Map to "Atari Key" 5200 # = Map to N 5200 Reset = map to cold reboot or warm reboot 5200 Pause = map to 9 Yea that is what I used. The "trick" if you want to call it that was to map the '4' key to something like the "emu button 1" key then map the "emu button 1" key to the xbox "start" key. Its actually a 2 step process. Then the emu starts fine. But not all games work but most do.
  17. I had to go to Xports web site to get the info on getting this emu to work. If I remember I'll look for the instructions when I get home. I know it has something to do with mapping the '4' keyboard key to the start button...
  18. Definately burn those 5200 games on to a cdrom for your Dreamcast. It's great. Only a couple of games don't play 100% perfectly. Since I burned my disk I moved my 5200 into the closet.
  19. I hate to show my age but I bought an Atari 5200 when it first came out so I lived through that whole period of time. Basically the reason the 5200 wasn't so popular was packaging Super Breakout with it while Colecovision came with Donkey Kong. If you weren't into the home video game scene at that time you simply can't believe how big Donkey Kong was at that time. It was huge. Every store that was selling video games at that time had Donkey Kong up on their screens. It was everywhere. The in the corner was the 5200 running Super Breakout. Really, the comparison was pathetic. Now I've always been a huge 5200 fan and think it was superior to the Colecovision, but I've got to admit Donkey Kong was a damn good game. Overall the Atari wins the battle with the quality of its games, but it had nothing to compair with the popularity of Donkey Kong. Even PacMan wasn't as popular as Donkey Kong was at that time. Plus after shelling out big money to get a system, and remember this was 20 years ago, a dollar was worth a hell of alot more then than it is now and still those systems were around $300, and getting home and playing Super Breakout, you did feel like you were kind of screwed. But still I've never regretted buying that 5200. What a blast I had with that system!
