I've got one. I don't need it. Maybe you do? It's taking up space, and due to its condition, I really can't ask for cash...so I'll give it up for free to whoever wants it. I'll just need $20 to cover shipping & handling costs. The system's a bit dingy, and the RF cable's cut. (I'm sure an intrepid hobbyist could solder on a new F connector, though.) I also do not have a power supply for it.
Any takers? Otherwise, out to the dumpster it goes...

I'm looking for one, but could you tell me if this one was made in Japan or Taiwan? The reason I'm asking is because I've got a 600XL that was made in Japan and the keyboard feels alot nicer than the Taiwan models.How can you tell? Is it printed on the bottom of the case? I can check later today.

I've got a spare Atari 800XL for sale here, in excellent condition. Everything works perfectly, but I have no power pack for it (I had to test it with the power pack for my own personal 800XL). This thing's in even better condition than my personal unit!

Is this game capable of talking to a Japanese cart? I wouldn't think so, but you kinda made it sound like it would.Yep. Every time I visit the Global Trade Station, most of the traders that appear in my search results are Japanese.

[threadjack alert]Just a silly thought, what are they (Nintendo/Game Freak) going to do when they run out of precious items to call their various Pokemon titles? The Obvious Answer is laugh all the way to the bank.
I guess we could just select some second tier stuff. It's not like we care. They could have Pokemon 'barrel of oil', Pokemon 'rainforest', Pokemon 'red brick'. This almost sounds like the fixings for a Something Awful Photoshop Friday... [end of threadjack]

While cleaning out my closet yesterday, I found a copy of 1943 Kai (The Battle of Midway) for the PC Engine (Turbo Grafx 16 in the US). It's complete with HuCard, case, and inserts, and in great shape. This game will only work on Japanese systems, unless you use an adapter. You can read all about the game here.
