Cool, thanks. I'll keep you in mind if/when I finally nab an ST system.

I'm looking for Syphon Filter 1 & 2, both complete with disc, jewel case, manual, etc. I'm also looking for an old Atari 800XL or 130XE computer, but I assume the SF games are more likely. Anyways, I've got a pile of games up for trade. Cash is also an option, but I'd like to move some of these out first: PM or reply if you can help. Thanks!

Crap. You need an EPROM programmer?

How do you use two TOSs in one system?

Cheap sources for old Atari comps?
liquidcross replied to liquidcross's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I think I'd gone there...their prices are good, but the shipping costs were really high, if I remember correctly. I'll have to doublecheck. Thanks! -
Is it just me, or have Atari computer prices been ridiculous on eBay lately? Or maybe it's not just lately, since I only recently started looking. Anyway, is there a more reliable and cost-effective online source for finding 800XLs, 130XEs, etc? I've gone to Best Electronics' site and MyAtari.com, but their prices are in the stratosphere.
-
Oh, I'll definitely be able to wait. If prices don't come way down, I can't get one. End of story. Man, you guys have all the luck! It's shame I wouldn't be able to use a PAL system.
-
I wish. The few I've seen go for well over $75-$100.

Perfect! Many thanks.

Is there a site anywhere that has a repository of Atari 800 game screenshots? I can't seem to find any...

800XL or 130XE wanted; bunch of games for possible trade
liquidcross replied to liquidcross's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
*bump* -
I'd need a clean, working 800XL or 130XE computer system, w/power supply and possibly some game carts to test it with. An SIO2PC interface would be nice, too, but I'm not going to push my luck. Anyway, here's what I've got up for trade; cold hard cash is possible, too. PM or reply if you're interested. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (A2600) Asteroids (A2600) Joust (A2600) Super Breakout (A2600) Warlords (A2600) Food Fight (A7800) Choplifter! Is it possible to get more internal memory than that 64k that's in there by default? If so, how do you upgrade it?
-
What's the most advanced TOS you can use in a 520ST? Or, more to the point, which TOS is recommended for that system? And are the upgrades inexpensive?
-
Why do you need 1.2? You can always get an upgrade from dealers like Best or B&C in the US or others in EU. I heard you need 1.02 to maximize compatibility with games, apps, etc.
-
The 520STs I found had TOS 1.0 in ROM, I believe. I know I'd need 1.02(?), but I'm not sure how to go about finding the upgrades. Also...can the 520STs hold an internal HD, or do you need an external model?
-
I'd love to have an ST, but they seem to go for good amounts of cash on eBay...at least lately. Do they always fetch a higher price, or are they easier to find elsewhere at a lower one? I've seen some (relatively) inexpensive 520STs...but I don't know if those are any good.

A few questions about the 800-series
liquidcross replied to liquidcross's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks for the links! Checking them out now... I use a Mac, not a PC. So I dunno if that cable will work properly through a serial-to-USB adapter. -
Hey guys. I'm a newbie as far as Atari computers go, but the 8-bit computers just seem to have captured my interest; that, and an ST isn't going to happen right now. I just don't have the room, or the cash. Anyways, I had some basic questions about the 800-series; please forgive my stupidity. 1.) What upgrade options are there (i.e., memory, peripherals, etc.)? 2.) What else can you use an 800 for, besides gaming? Any recommended programs? I know there's some DOS-type stuff... 3.) I've mainly got my eyes on the 800XL, but would the XE be a horrible purchase? I know the keyboard's "mushy," but can it still do all the computer stuff that the 800s could, or is it strictly for games? Thanks in advance!
-
Ouch. If only the STs weren't so expensive...
-
I'm considering picking up an Atari computer at some point...but should I go with an 800 series or an ST series? Naturally, I'd mainly be using the system for games...but how do the systems differ as far as ease of use, peripheral availability, compatibility with monitors, etc? Thanks!
-
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys...if I get an Atari computer, I think I'll go with the 800-series.
-
I've been thinking of picking up an old Atari computer system...are the 400s worth it, or should I skip straight to the 800s? Also, do I need a special monitor or adapter for them? I know nothing about these old systems.

How bad is it compared to the manufacturer's switchbox?
