  1. I know it's a longshot, but I figured I'd try! :D

    Up for trade:

    • Atari 2600 (Sears TeleGames 6-switch)
    • AC adapter
    • 2 joysticks
    • Asteroids
    • Defender
    • Mario Bros

All items are in excellent condition. I can also get an RF switch if you need it (I built mine out of parts from Radio Shack), and possibly some paddles. Maybe a few more games, too...I'm flexible.

I just bought a 7800, and I'd really like a 5200 to round it off, but I don't have much cash at the moment. :(

  2. That's odd, because in all my experiences, 5200's have been cheaper than 7800's...  :ponder:

I guess I haven't really looked at either on eBay for awhile(although I did sell one of my 5200's  8) , for a very good amount!)

I'll get a 5200 eventually, I'm sure...just gotta take a break for a while. 13 consoles is enough for now!

  4. Id say 5200 because right now I think its got the best homebrew games!

Well, the 5200 flew outta my price range too fast, so I had to settle for a 7800. Don't kill me, guys. ;)

I'm still going to make some 5200 mods, though. Should be fun. :D

  5. I'd go with 5200, I much preffer that system.

I would have, but that was out of my price range at this point. So I ended up ordering a 7800. Don't hate me. :D

I'm still going to attempt to build that 2600-to-5200 joystick adapter, though, so I'm sure I'll need a 5200 owner to test it for me. ;)

  6. I'm undecided. I want to "upgrade" from my 2600, to either a 5200 w/adapter or a 7800. Both systems have good libraries and whatnot...but I can't figure out which one to go with! Anyone have some recommendations? Pros/cons?

  8. If what you are looking to do is simplify your tangled mess of chords

try the 7800. Its a good little system. Not as bulky as the 5200, 99.9%

backwards compatible with 2600 games. The 5200 is a more interesting

system to collect for with its larger library and many prototypes. But the

7800 doesn't have the joystick hassles. Or just get all three :D

    John

Doesn't the 7800 use the same RF switch as the 2600?

  9. It depends on the voltage of the LED, the blue one for instance is 5V so you would have to remove the resistor to the left of it and jumper it with a wire.

Just like the 5200 one. That's what I thought. Could you provide a zoomed-in shot, so I know which one to get rid of? And I assume this is a 5mm LED as well?

  10. I *would* advise you to get a 5200, but I'm not sure if you should get rid of your 2600 either.  I've personally never used the VCS adapters, but they seem to cost just about as much as a VCS would, so it may not be worth it.

5200's are really nice systems though, and it seems there's TONS of stuff you can do with them.   It's the only system I've ever really made something cool for(the PC joystick adapter).

Yeah, I've seen your work. Very impressive indeed. I plan to make a similar adapter myself, as well as try to build the 2600-to-5200 joystick adapter.

  11. I know there's the various joystick mods...but are they any cool power LED replacement ones, video outs, etc? If I get one, I want to do all manner of cool modifications to it... :D

(forgive me for cluelessnes...I've never even touched a 7800 before)

  12. I can't say much about price, but if you get a 5200 and a 2600 adaptor, make sure you get a two-port 5200. The adaptor only works with the two port models. It also works with modified four ports, but you may not get one that's been modified.

Or, you could get a 7800. Lots of the same games, which are improved over the 5200, and the 7800 is backwards compatible with the 2600, so no adaptor is needed.

That's a possibility, too. I've been looking into the 7800s...as long as there's plenty of cool mods I can make. ;)

  13. I accidentally posted this as a reply in another thread...oops.

Anyway, is there an "all-in-one" controller solution for the 5200? I've heard all the horror stories about the stock sticks breaking. What I wanna know is:

    1) Can you use the PC-to-5200 joystick converter along with a 2600 keypad, rather than an actual 5200 controller?

    2) If so, do you need to "mod" a 2600 keypad? How?

    3) Any other solutions?

Sorry for being a pest. I appreciate any help. Thanks guys! :D
