Should the day arrive where I need to replace mine, please grant me an audience to plead my case for one in your treasure trove. I'll be starting a thread late next week to present my three new additions to the family. But the real kicker should happen within a month. Can you say quadruplicates? Bwaaahahahaha Open up a Vectrex Museum!
-
Update....After several attempts at replicating a molded/formed topper for the kiosk, I've decided that for a modern twist, the Vectrex looks much better on the black surface as pictured above. Once a plexiglass door gets cut for the front opening, I'll see if boxed games will fit nicely or if a graphic is more appropriate turning the interior into storage for your Vectrex goodies. I'm continuing to try different materials for a backdrop behind the actual console and have ruled out corrugated plastic. Next step is to explore a flat, non curved alternative since my expo table has a more elongated shape than the original store display.

*SOLD* FS: Sean Kelly Vectrex Multicart (1996)
omeganu replied to riffraff's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Can someone chime in on the uniqueness of this particular multicart and why it always gets so much attention? Serious question, I've never looked into it....just curious. -
resurrecting an old thread...even tho I think most of you have seen the repros I've been making at http://www.vectrexoverlays.com
-
If you don't find any luck in a complete set, I can help you on the overlay part (repro).
-
When you're ready to outfit that Vectrex with overlays for a multicart, let me know! http://www.vectrexoverlays.com
-
FYI I've set up a new URL for overlays - http://www.vectrexoverlays.com
-
I've had positive feedback about my full set of reproduction overlays...check out http://www.vectrexoverlays.com and let me know if you have any questions!

Out of stock right now as I've run out of cart cases. I've Emailed the guy I usually get them from, but it's been nearly a week and no answer yet Can you send me the board? I've got duplicates of some carts that I could swap out the original game board for this one and use the case.
-
...and here is what I am DOING: Mix and Match 1 overlay = $9.99/each 5 overlays = $9.49/each 10 overlays = $8.99/each 20 overlays = $8.49/each 20+ overlays = $7.99/each These will be the new prices moving forward. For any of you that purchased the entire set already, I'll be happy to gift you two of my custom home brew overlays (see eBay auction). Shoot me an email directly to request that.

I've gotta track down a Vec flash cart so I can "field test" games that aren't on my 72-1 multicart.....I can do overlays from the emulators, but before I feel OK charging any money for them I really think seeing a prototype on an actual Vectrex is necessary. Anybody selling a flash cart? I believe they aren't "in stock" on the site anymore.
-
FYI I have the 72-1 Raven's Nest multicart....so my goal is to create an overlay for all appropriate games on that cartridge first (since I can actually 'field test' them).
-
Uniquely created Protector and YASI overlays it is! A good weekend project for me! In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming...I'm working off of an emulator for those as I don't have the cartridges - this project may span out over time as I try to track down one of those microSD carts that I can upload ROMs on to so I can test the dimensions of the overlay on my actual Vectrex.
-
Thanks! YASI and Protector have "official" overlays out there and I'm trying to contact the game creator to get their OK on duplicating it. If I am unsuccessful I will just create an original overlay of my own for use with those games that gives a similar (if not improved) playing experience.

Most definitely - the only thing is I'm not sure exactly how many I'll be making from the home brew games. So my next step is to change my site from just the "entire set" discount to a mix and match discount. Here is what I am thinking: Mix and Match 1 overlay = $12.99/each 10 overlays = $10.99/each (save $20) 20+ overlays = $9.99/each (save $60) Of course eBay isn't going to easily accomodate this sort of group pricing so I guess I'll stick to the single orders on eBay and use it as a marketing tool where I answer questions and redirect people to my http://www.skywaytwincities.com/Vectrex site. Since eBay generates orders of 1-10 overlays for me on occasion, I skipped the 5 overlay discount...I don't want an unsuspecting eBay purchaser to order 7 overlays at $12.99 only to learn that they could have saved money if they ordered from my site instead.
-
OK folks...so my first round of home brew overlays are up on eBay. Check out Item #320873602363 and let me know your thoughts!
-
I've been working on making overlays for all the Vectrex games that never had one...primarily homebrew games and unreleased games. I'll keep you posted!

Yes a kit would be a great idea. Exactly my thought. The table arrives "flat" and my plans would be to acquire them, affix the designs, include the parts I'm adding (i.e., the display behind the Vectrex, etc.), re-package everything back into the kit and ship it off for assembly. In the end I'd basically be modding a tradeshow kiosk with custom vinyl, graphics and custom built parts with a new set of instructions on how to put everything together.
-
By 'side panel' are you referring to the grey corrugated plastic exterior that I affixed the Vectrex logo and vertical stripes to? Your suggestion for the 'backdrop' is exactly the route I'm planning on going! Although I don't plan to print directly on the pvc board...I'd like to accomodate a way to swap out what is being displayed. To be honest, I kind of like how the flat black table looks with the Vectrex on it (no 'riser' of any kind to mimic the vacuum molded plastic topper of the original). The more I work with this project, the more I think it's better to make it "influenced" by the original store kiosk and not an attempted recreation.
-
In the end, I'll have a more clear picture on what it costs me to do one and how long it'll take...but I'm open to hearing what people think a project like this would be worth for them price wise.

I'm starting a project to create a Vectrex kiosk display and would love any feedback you might have. I just completed the "first phase" of the project and will post my progress at http://www.skywaytwi...trex/Kiosk.html Phase II will include affixing a plexiglass door to the front of the kiosk with shelves to display game boxes. Phase III will determine if I will fashion a top to the display to mimic the vacuum molded plastic of the original Phase IV will be the construction of the curved "backdrop" behind the Vectrex Console Phase V will analyze my costs for all of this and see if anybody might want one of their own! (cost suggestions appreciated)
-
Phase I of my kiosk is done....I'll throw photos up at http://www.skywaytwi...trex/Kiosk.html Let me know your thoughts! Phase II is to fashion a plexiglass door with holders for games to display, Phase III is to decide on whether to keep the flat black top or fashion a replacement for the vacuum molded plastic display, Phase IV is to create the curved "backdrop" display behind the Vectrex and Phase V is to see if any of you want one and what a going rate for something like this might be. Thoughts? Perhaps I should start a new thread on this...sorry I'm new.

You should make a set of "replicas" instead of "reproductions" like I do. I work a lot in the printing world too and my gut tells me that a firm plexi printed on both sides in 4 color process with a white ink on the reverse would put your overhead costs at a point where your asking price might just be too close to what you can get for an actual original on eBay. In time as the originals get more sparse, I think you'd be on to something for sure! Very fun to have that equipment tho! Let us know if you ever plug any out.
-
I'm glad you like it! I've had a few inquiries about whether these could be confused as originals and resold to unsuspecting buyers. You have to hold one in your hand to see what I mean when I say that they're "daily use" and "meant to be played" versions of the collector originals. A "functional alternative" that fills in the gaps of your collection or just lets you store the collectibles away and not risk scratching them I guess. On a side note, I've created a "scratch and dent" listing on eBay for the overlay rejects that don't pass my quality control LOL. They're basically the ones that come out of the laminator with a larger than acceptable air bubble and/or a blemish located directly over a key area of the screen like the crosshairs of Star Trek or the sunburst in Solar Quest. I'm selling them below my costs just to recuperate what I can - $5.99 a piece and the assurance that while there are blemishes, they could still work just fine if you don't want to spend more money. Somebody actually bought out my first set almost in its entirety but I have more around and will continually update my eBay "inventory" as new rejects get produced

1) Another great idea. I've already got all the equipment set up and can plug out any graphic that is of reasonable quality. I'll shoot some of em an email and see what sort of response I get. 2) The overlays I sell are exact scans of the originals. I do adjust the colors to "punch" out a bit more as I use a 4-color laser printer and sometimes the scans available aren't as color accurate. As far as modifying the placement of the colors/graphics on the overlays, I haven't done anything of that nature. Once my multicart arrives I'll probably tinker with some of them as I actually get a player's experience of the overlay versus just a dimension and color check.
