  1. That's a very nice site. But all the BUY NOW buttons are missing. Yes, I want one. Depending on cost, possibly two.
  2. You guess wrong. ... etc... etc... In Win7 and above, you have entire virtual machines between some programs, you have a whole bunch of services and architectures, legacy interfaces and wrappers between these interfaces crammed together. It is not the programming language that makes the modern systems so demanding. This is really the least problem. The hardware and interface legacy is. Really, it is just simply due to grossly inefficient design. At microsoft the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The different divisions at microsoft do not work together. Each group has to reinvent the same wheel for themselves. Huge chunks of code are redundantly implemented and unecessarily called in layer after layer. Ever notice how many different file and print dialogs appear in Windows? It really is shocking how many Gigs of disk space Windows 7 consumes with zero applications installed. Other than some added glitz it doesn't do much more than XP.
  3. If that's so, count me in to buy one. I'm good with a point between USD $100 and $200 .
  4. Would hooking it up to the PBI be more useful?
  5. Is FB2 or FB2+ the preferred board for the cart port modification? I have one of each and thought it was the FB2+, but after reading about the pad 20 problem I'm starting to wonder.
  6. Exactly my thoughts, at the early stage of this thread, and Candle's comment warned about propagation-delays, etc... but fully leveraging the machine's unique expansion potential, I wonder why not going with a "red-hot" upgrade, all the way. A CPU board (with VBXE) should be on the cool-list-of-things-to-do, but not while the Incognito is under construction. (Now after I've had an Incognito plugged in a week that will be different.
  7. I read the original author found his source code. Maybe there's a chance he open sources it and the world can get at all the nifty, rotoscoped animation. http://www.geek.com/articles/games/prince-of-persia-creator-finds-lost-source-code-23-years-later-20120329/
  8. Incognito is turning out awesome. My totally stock 800 from eBay is here now. It's feeling upgrade envy sitting next to an 800XL with the Newell 256K upgrade and Omnimon. So, sign me up for an Incognito. VBXE for this would be nifty too. If that means a new CPU board, then why the heck not?! While you're in there, how about a 65816?
  9. Huh. I've never seen an OSS cart in the black case with a small label. I've only seen the large, yellow label that wraps over the top of the case. (And the orange carts). The pic from Atarimax ( http://www.atarimax.com/ebay/fc_action.jpg ) shows the small label is on an appropriately sized smooth area of the cart while the one you bought looks like the case was intended for the larger wrap-around label. But, I'm not a purist/collector -- if it works, it's a perfectly good cart. You got Action, BasicXL, and Atasm. Pretty cool deal. I once saw someone pay $80 just for the Action! cart.
  10. I vaguely recall reading that the XE keyboard can be fixed by peeling off a plastic sheet and repainting the traces with graphite. Does anyone know if this is true?
  11. Like the 800XL? You have to see a regular 800 using split luma/chroma into a monitor. I got cables yesterday and tried my 800XL and 800 on a 46" Sharp Aquos. The 800XL looked good (even without a mod to fix the bad chroma), but the 800 just blows it away.
  12. You're obviously from Candle's Sales and Marketing department. You convinced me. I want one. Maybe two. Or.. Is there a limit? Where do I sign up?
  13. Daaaang!. I wish I had an 130XE to dump, so I could get another 800XL. (Hint. As everyone else says, the 800XL is a much better machine.)
  14. Hey, it finished overnight instead of several days from now. Thanks to you and all other seeders. I left my client running today and it returned nearly 100% to others while I was at work.
  15. I'm at 3%. 3 days left to download. There must be a faster corner of the internet closer to me. (And I get 10Mbs with Comcast).
  16. Me too. And at $6 - $15 per hour I was too poor. That's better than only the client code surviving. The server code can be ported, and the protocol expectations of the server can be reverse engineered to rebuild a new client.
  17. I just received driving controllers and indy 500. I'm going to lend it to another 2600 fan at work who never saw it and is currently a PC racing simulation aficionado. Back in the day we were drifting in Indy 500 (ice race) years before the word was invented. Wait, did someone just say tempest? That would be sooooooo cool.....
  18. That's remarkable -- someone making new 6502s. Just can't kill the good stuff. Now If I could just find someone making a cheap SPO256-AL2 then I can fix my Cheep Talk voice synthesizer.
  19. I just had to buy a DIN to RCA monitor cable for the 800. My kid was playing games on it earlier today. Then my wife felt it necessary to "clean up" "that old stuff" in the living room and can't remember what she did with the video cable. After five hours of searching no cable. (Hint: She has been known to throw the kitchen flatware into the garbage without thinking. The garbage pickup happened today before I returned home.) I used to make these cables, but Radio Shack just sells phones now and doesn't stock diddly squat. I will trade one wife in exchange for one working double-sided, double density Atari floppy drive.
  20. Yeah, the drums in that are really amazing. I've heard (and written :-) ) plenty of bad attempts at simulating drums, but this really does sound like drums. Do you think this is done with a digital sample?
  21. Great song, and perfectly legit to qualify as an Atari game song, though that's a classic composition (I forget who the composer is off-hand), which is probably why it's an appealing song to you, it's a famous composition. The composer is Edvard Grieg.
  22. Hall of the Mountain King from "Peer Gynt" in the game Mountain King http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uMHZv6eC4G0
  23. That's a Bkey? I recall a full stroke keyboard with yellow keys. Was that something different? Too bad these are sold out (to Atari-ize my PC) http://www.geekstuff...e-keyboard.html
  24. My carts from Roklan: Gorf cart is brown. Wizard of Wor is brown. Deluxe Invaders is beige. (It could have been grey and the color has changed) The labels are all yellow/white printing on blue. Never saw a Roklan card in blue plastic.
