  1. I don't think there has ever been a game like The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild, that has so convincingly sold me on wanting a new console. And this is coming from somebody who never was a Zelda fan, at all.

Probably save, but hoping the other half buys it first.

If you wanted to get it cheap ... Target is doing buy one get one on Wii U games, and Gamestop has the console for just over $100.

I felt that way about Soul Blade for the PSX.

  2. I've started watching the current season of Rick and Morty.A lot of the reviews thatI see say it is brillant, deep and profound. And maybe I am just too old or need to start watching from S1 E1, but I don't get that. Yeah and is funny and clever than pretty much any adult oriented cartoon on right now -- but I think some of the praise it gets is WAAY OTP.

I think it's ok... but I would vote Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, Steven Universe, Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Dexter's Lab, We Bare Bears, Harvey Birdman, and many others as far better. Personal preference I guess. But I would say most if not all of those are more thoughtful and layered shows.

I like almost all of the shows mentioned. I was real big into ATHF, Harvey Birdman, Sealab, Space Ghost CTC, American Dad!, Family Guy, Venture Bros, Metalocalypse...And Bob's Burgers grew on me, I like it a lot better now for some reason

And don't forget Archer! Actually a good rule of thumb is anything with H. Jon Benjamin is good IMO. And Home Movies was by some of the crew that does Bob's Burgers...I liked it.

  3. Going to NYC in August and am wondering if there are any classic video games stores worth checking out.

In NYC? No doubt there are. But as with everything in NYC, I'd expect to overpay. :P

Might as well hop over to the Nintendo store.. even though there isn't much there you can't get everywhere else.

You really need to make your way to Digital Press Videogames. Its in New Jersey, but its a great store. They even carry a decent inventory of AA homebrew carts. 387 Piaget Ave, Clifton, NJ 07011 http://dpvideogames.com/

  4. What's the story on these GBA multi-carts from China. For less than $20 how bad can this be? http://www.ebay.com/itm/182535548467?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Not a bad deal. I actually have a similar cart I sell for $15. Shoot me. A message if you want to check it out.

I have a few of those from back when (Usually boxed), and I always paid more than that! But yeah, they're fun! Lots of NES games there probably, just so ya know...

      Hmmmm...interesting

  5. Since I began collecting for the GBA I found out I don't really like 2 of the 4 titles I picked up. While everything I picked up came well-recommended from a variety of sources I think I need to step back and remind myself what types of games I like going forward. And maybe only take a chance every now and then.

Knowing what YOU like versus what is a good game in a genre you don't like will save you a lot of time and money..

    2. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

To me a lot of GBA games could be great, but they overcomplicate them...If they treated them like NES/SNES games they would have ruled...I DO recommend The Castlevania games though! (I know I'm so Brave to recommend those :)...

  6. Per usual I have game collection ADD. Just got into my first set of GBA games and am wondering if I now need a PSP in my life.

I'll answer yes too but you also should learn how to softmod it to get the absolute most out of it. But softmodding is very easy once you get the Micro SD/Memory Stick Duo adpater. Once softmodded you can install PSP and PSX games to the card and plenty of emulators too.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I love the PSP! I just got a new battery for my first one...A friend put some emulators on there and it rocks!

  7. Totally justified buying an Atari Kids Controller with overlays and the 4 CCW games as a way to share the Atari with my 7 month old. Somehow the other half doesn't buy that.

    1. SoundGammon

      SoundGammon

Tell her she can spend quality time with the kid and the Atari too!

  8. Saw an old IBM PS/2 monitor sitting all sad by itself next to the recycling bins at the recycling center this morning. Sadly did not see a matching PS/2 next to it, or else I would have totally picked it.

We had IBM Personal System/2's in high school in our computer science class. I learned BASIC and Pascal on one. Writing labs had Mac Pluses.

  9. I don't know why I resisted this long but finally got a smart phone. Thus far its best use is passing time when I am with the baby and have nothing else to do.

    1. Ransom

      Ransom

Yup, killing time is one of the top uses for my smartphone as well (aside from business-related stuff). It makes waiting for stuff a little bit easier.

    2. simbalion

      simbalion

I still can't get into the smarphones. Probably from seeing too many smartphone zombies at work. The Game and Watch series of handhelds was basically invented as a time killer.

A few people (mainly those who were already into computers at the time) immediately grokked Tron, but the rest need to have it explained to them, and that would take much more space than a status update.

When I realized Sark was Gul Madred everything became clear.

  11. Caught E.T. on TV last night. Now I kinda want to give the 2600 game a try.... just need to find a good manual scan.

  12. Random finds at the local game store at lunch: All three Mythicon 2600 titles, plus Strategy X. Even at $0.99 I passed -- no longer buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff. BUT they also had a Sega Master System control stick for 5 bucks..... kinda wondering if it is worth going back for that.

      108 Stars

I would go back for that.

  13. I am not watching Japanense cat videos on YouTube instead of working this morning.

  14. Coffee isn't working too well today. Try #2, in which bratty kids react to the Gamebody.

Or how I hate "kids react".

      should read Gameboy.

  15. I found my copy of Civ III last night. Ended up going to bed much later than usual.... just need to play one more turn.

One of my all time favs. But man those late game turns made my computer at the time CHUG!

    2. SoulBlazer

      SoulBlazer

Big time fan of the Civ games, but Civ 3 was probably my least favorite in the series. My personal tops are the original, Civ 2: Test of Time, Civ 4: Beyond the Sword, and Civ 5: Brave New World.

  16. Is Mario Kart 8 reason enough to buy a Wii U?

50/50. MK8 is great, but I might not spend quite that much just to be able to play one game. If you have any interest at all in at least a couple of the other Nintendo first party titles, then yes.

  17. Burgertime for the Inty showed up today. I know it goes without saying it is an excellent game and the Inty's control disc makes total sense for this game.

    1. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

BurgerTime is a favorite of mine on just about any platform. I grew up with the TI 99/4A version, but the Intellivision and Aquarius versions are the ones I play the most today. I agree that the disc works well with the game.

Definitely check out Diner, the Intellivision sequel to BurgerTime.

    2. DoctorTom

      DoctorTom

I don't know about total sense, but it is usable in this case.

  18. Without even realizing it I hit a collection milestone. 100 (actually 102) unique Atari 2600 titles.

Grats. Keep workin' on it. I'm just over 250 myself - unique carts, not counting duplicates.

  19. I love mystery carts. Picked up three in the last two weeks and finally tested them. Mystery cart #1: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Mystery cart #2: Kool-Aid Man. Mystery cart #3: The Dreadnaught Factor for the Inty.

  20. So now I am a proud owner of an Intellivision. Cool stuff, though I am convinced that whomever designed the controllers owned a lot of stock in big pharma.... hoping one day to get rich off of anti-arthritis meds. And I discovered an Atari Advantage poster in one of boxes of 7800 games I hadn't bothered to open in 4 months.

    1. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

The hand controller isn't nearly as bad as its reputation. Just avoid using it as you would a gamepad: use your fingers to rotate the disc along its edge, rather than smudging it from the center with your thumb.

I like holding the controller in my left hand and using my right index finger or thumb on the disc. You can also rock it back and forth with two fingers in games like Astrosmash.

    2. JacobZu7zu7

      JacobZu7zu7

I hold the controller with both hands. my left hand holds the controller sideways and my thumb moves the 'disc', my right thumb pushing the numbers and fire button, and holds the right side, while I use the disc with my left thumb. Most comfortable way for me.

  21. So I told my GF that I am meeting a guy at Petsmart after work to buy a new video game console. She said that sounds sketchy and gives me a funny look.

I love meeting people in back alleys at night to buy things in plastic bags like "wavebird controllers" CL meetups can make me feel like a real sketchball sometimes...

  22. Not that I need to ask you guys, but $20 for an Inty (no details on which version or condition) with Astrosmash and Advanced D&D.... good deal or not.

Doubt it works properly at that price. If the controllers aren't aces, it's not worth even having an INTV. Even when they are in perfect condition, the controllers are "challenging" to use.

  24. Stopped by my local used game store on lunch and picked up a few 2600 commons that I did not have. Also picked up two mystery carts, one Parker Bros and one M-Network. Taking bets on what they will be.

The guy who rang me up seemed to lack the enthusiasm I had over the mystery carts. There was also a mystery Activision cart, if I swing by again in a couple of weeks and it is still there I'll give it a home.

My bets: Q*Bert and Armor Ambush.

      Super Challenge Football, Amidar.

    4. frankodragon

      frankodragon

Likely the PB cart is Frogger. I'll bet it's Astro Smash for the M-Network one.

  25. My new job included a college-issued iPad, which I had little clue what to do with. Then I installed Tiny Death Star. I swear I will only play it during lunch or when there is nothing else to do and won't take it to the men's room to play.
