  1. Merry Christmas everyone, Santa has officially touched down in the UK so I'm off to bed before he reaches my house! Hope you all have a great day.
  2. Hope you don't spend my $50 on chicas! Congrats guys, can't wait to see the book in print.
  3. Come on Santa, get here already!!

Christmas chimes are calling: Santa, we need you today!

  4. I think this thread should be locked now. Shame on those doing homebrew releases in their spare time and without big financial budgets, and shame on the Jews for ... well ... no idea, but let's have a go at someone. As someone more eloquently put it : WTF??!!
  5. Congrats Brian O! The label looks fantastic and thanks to the guys behind the cart for sending me a sneak preview - this is an excellent package that should be on every 2600 owner's Christmas list.
  6. A 1400XL or 1450XLD, failing that I'll go with a 1200XL, heck or an 800XL or 130XE.......... yikes this is too complicated. All the Atari 8-bit stuff rocks. I wouldn't mind a hard drive from back in the day but apart from that I'm just happy to be surrounded by 8-bit goodness.
  7. I loved Syndicate on the Amiga but haven't seen it or played it in years. I'll have to get hold of the game for the Jaguar and see how it compares.
  8. They were quite common in the UK at one point - even the Atari version. Many people bought Atari bundles with the Datamark included. From memory I don't think anyone preferred them over the official Atari models.
  9. Members of AtariAge, I believe that human beings and fish can live together

  10. Cool! Great to see Atari User is this month's prize . Now no excuse not to login and check out such a great BBS!
  11. We lead this issue with a special feature on the Atari Lynx - Atari's killer handheld. We look at the hardware and the games that made the Lynx so special and years ahead of the game. UK publisher Rainbird were a prolific supporter of the Atari ST. We look at the high quality titles they released for both the Atari ST & the Atari 8-bit, plus Grotweed is out of his cave to review The Pawn & Jinxter by Magnetic Scrolls. In this issues' ST Coin-Op Conversions we cover SNK and their arcade games ported to the ST. Our popular Game Over! series comes to an end as we review the last batch of unreleased titles for the Atari 2600 & 5200. Our In-Dev column looks at the latest homebrew releases for the Atari scene. Also this issue, we report from the recent Retro Gaming Revolution event, have a look at the different Atari 8-bit disk drives, feature Atari's Super Sprint and have a shed load of reviews for you including titles for the Atari 2600, 7800, Jaguar, Jaguar CD, Atari ST, Falcon, Atari 8-bit & the Atari Lynx. The latest issue is available in digital PDF from http://www.atariuser.com , plus two print editions. A big thanks to everyone who helped with this issue.

  14. I hope that Sal makes a quick and full recovery.
  15. As someone who was on the front line of retail in the early nineties I would have to disagree with the above. You can't say the ST "gaming thing" lasted two or three years in the late eighties (UK) because it didn't. When I dipped my toes into computer retail the Amiga 500+ had been released and we sold Amigas like there was no tomorrow. Whilst our ST sales were never as good, and would continue to decline, we did shift large amounts of new releases for the ST month on month for some time. My impression of the UK gaming market ( at the time I was in it) was that it was quite polarised. You had the console (megadrive etc) market and the computer market. I wouldn't say console ownership "took over" - far from it.
  16. I´ll start doing some digging for suitable locations, obviously if we can get a room for free that would be great. Would just need to be somewhere relatively secure both inside and out. Any thoughts on whether this should be a whole weekend event, starting Saturday, doing something Saturday evening like going out for a meal etc, then part Sunday before we all pack up and go home? Possibly do some gaming competitions , a raffle, etc
  17. Yep, played it to completion on the Xbox 360, fantastic game.
  18. Looking at it the Wii now we tend to forget what a success it was. Sadly for Nintendo both Microsoft and Sony have brought out there own hardware (Kinect & Move) so the Wii has nothing to make it stand out anymore. Hopefully the new console will be a move forward but I'm wary of those expensive looking controllers and if it is only going to have the same graphics power as an Xbox 360 (which is fine at the moment) then what will happen when Microsoft and Sony release their next generation consoles in 2012/2013 (probably)? I know the Wii has been different (apart from the recent European cut down version) but Nintendo have really pissed me off with their policy of releasing a product, making it smaller and releasing it again, making it wider and releasing it again, releasing an improved version and ........... then telling you it is a load of old crok and you have to buy their latest offering.
  19. Curses Amazon Black Friday, find out no deals start for another ten hours or more

  20. Sounds cool mimo, cool indeed. Would be great if you could make it. From the earlier replies it looks like we'll have no shortage of quality Atari hardware to play with.
  21. Curses Bryan, my 800XL was cutting edge then and is cutting edge now .
  22. you may want to reply or maybe ignore this post. I will not reply to this thread again. I don't want this to get personal or an argument outside of the original scope. (NOTE THAT I QUOTED FROM THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE) I certainly don't want and see no need to turn this into anything personal, or a full blown argument (whatever the threat level is for an argument to become full blown), so let's move on and enjoy our evening. I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff we will agree on!
  23. Opine away. You've already stated your opinion on Best repeatedly in the past, so just as you may find discussion (of Best) sterile then you would be right to assume that we might probably find your repeated comments on the subject sterile too. My positive impression of Best is certainly no less valid than your negative opinion and vice versa. Stating an opinion is always likely to attract a differing opinion from someone else. We all have different experiences and viewpoints. The best way to avoid a difference in opinion is not to state your own in the first place.
  24. Best do limit stock availability and quantities that can be purchased by each customer from time to time. They do this to ensure everyone gets a fair shake at buying stock plus ensure they have stock for the future. Whilst they have a huge inventory it is ultimately a finite amount of stuff and once it is all gone, it is all gone. I've not purchased anything from Best in a few years, simply because they've always been extremely helpful and pointed out other ways to try and get a fix for a problem, cheaper alternatives etc.
  25. Thanks for the replies guys. Nuneaton doesn't sound like a bad idea so certainly wouldn't rule it out, would be a case of just finding out reasonable accommodation for people coming from further afield and for those wanting to be able to have a drink and not worry about driving back the same day. If anyone has any ideas on the best possible dates for June let me know, appreciate we are in the very early stages at this point.
