  1. Hi Guys, We're looking at doing an Atari get-together in June next year. It will be based in the Midlands, UK, and we hope to have lots of retro Atari hardware including the consoles, 8-bit, Lynx, Jaguar, ST and even the Portfolio. If anyone is in principal interested in coming along, and also possibly exhibiting their stuff then please get in touch. Please post any thoughts, suggestions etc in this thread and we'll work to narrow down the exact date and venue. Whilst this will be an Atari focused event other retro platforms will be welcome, and we'll be looking at somewhere with a bar and the possibility of overnight accommodation for those traveling.
  2. Oh my ............. I am so jealous right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done, sweet haul.
  3. I wouldn't worry about it Sheddy, they're just in shock at your game's sheer awesomeness.
  4. I always overclock my 800XL, just go into the BIOS and change a few settings and it runs real sweet with my latest Nvidia graphics card.
  5. If you're after a 130XE then look at the IDE 2.0 threads in this forum. IDE 2.0 is, well, fantastic.
  6. The poor ST. Admittedly when I first saw one running alongside an Amiga 500+ it put me right off, but these days I appreciate it for what it is. There is a ton of great games out there for it and (apart from the floppy drives) the STs seem pretty reliable to me. As an 8-bit owner at the time I thought Atari under Tramiel was evil, but looking back you have to recognize that Atari as it was had been doomed. The ST, which did sell very well in the UK even when it first came out, was the vehicle that not only kept the Atari brand alive but helped bring us nice things such as the Lynx and the Jaguar. Commodore, despite the Amiga, went bust before Atari faded into obscurity. Up until a year or so ago my only experience of the ST had been using a Mega ST in a professional environment running Calamus for DTP with Atari's kick-ass laser printer. That thing was amazing. For those of us who never had an ST day in day out it is easy to feel that it doesn't hold the same memories or just didn't give the same experience as an A8 but if we had been using one regularly we'd probably be thinking something different. I used to sell the Archimedes, and I hated it , only used to sell them to teachers and the odd poor kid who's parents refused to buy him anything else. People used to come in and moan when they'd bought one about the lack of games for it. As a computer though, and despite my lack of enthusiasm for it at the time, the Archimedes is a beast. Anyway, next question. Was the US proclamation of Independence illegal ? Answers on a postcard please.
  7. Don't worry, we have something different planned for the next cover.
  8. Thank you for your support Rob, login details sent.

  12. Sounds amazing, but then all your stuff sounds amazing!
  13. Lol, I remember this song, got played to death on Spanish radio. To combat this sort of thing you need to listen to Fito y los Fitipaldis.
  14. ebay UK do take down listings but they aren't brilliant and from time to time tend to turn a blind eye if the offending listing relates to one of their power sellers.
  15. This arrived today, many thanks to Doug for his kind gift. Two for my Microprose collection. This arrived from the printers yesterday !
  16. I think Doug's Paying It Forward idea is admirable and I think we could and should certainly have it as a permanent fixture at least on the 8-bit forum.
  17. Received my Mapping the Atari Book today - many thanks Doug!
  18. I might be interested as you said the magic words "no soldering required"
  19. Ok, Jinks is now taken and will soon be off to a good home.
  20. Well I did say "effectively" but yes, your description is more accurate. It is a RAM drive that acts like an internal disk drive. The RAM drive usually defaults to about a quarter of the total RAM size although you can change the size of the RAM drive using FDISK. I haven't seen a third party hard drive for it, but thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can find something about it. The Portfolio still has its uses but I agree with you 100% that it is a bit long in the tooth now. There was quite a lot of support for it at one time and you can download everything from games to music files and "e-books" (not the sort you can buy from Amazon!) . Cool device really.
  21. The Portfolio effectively has a hard drive which is C: . The portfolio itself uses AA batteries which are easy to replace. The cards use, a better description, a watch battery. The memory cards work like removable storage on A: . You can buy a ton of stuff for the Portfolio from the likes of Best Electronics etc. You can buy Chess and BASIC for the Portfolio on card, and there is a way to hook your Portfolio up to your PC via parallel interface to transfer files and data between them - check out the Best Electronics site - probably works better on older DOS PCs though. $100 for a Portfolio without anything seems a bit steep for ebay. Look out for ones that come with at least the manual, or some extras. Here is the link for Best Electronics, so you can see all the cool stuff available: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/portfoli.htm
