Of course tact is necessary, it is one of life's basic skills. You posted that the 5200 was a waste of solder and plastic on an Atari website, run by and used (mostly) by Atari enthusiasts. You took the time to make your post in the 5200 forum... a forum used (again mostly) by people who actively use and enjoy the 5200 system to this day. Perhaps if I was to visit one of the commodore sites you frequent and post "The Commodore 64 was a waste of solder and plastic" you would see a reaction similar to the one you've caused here. Thanks Joey, they look great -
Tickled, There are plenty of XEGS around in the UK, tons, hundreds, thousands....... It came out some time after the 5200 if I remember, more like at the same time as the 7800. It wasn't a major seller, heck nothing non ST related was a great Atari seller by then but that was down to Atari UK more than anything else. Look at ebay UK and you'll usually see at least one for sale. People tend to not like them because they are different, a lot of UK Atari guys are like that, if it ain't an 800XL or 65XE they panic. Quite a cool machine, if it wasn't for the pastel buttons. The XEGS gave us all those cartridge re-releases and ports from disk and tape formats. Ace Of Aces etc, not forgetting the lightgun.

Shocking but yet at the same time wise words, Sauron. Svenski Corp, distributing JINKS to the masses "Mom, I can't go pee right now, I'm playing JINKS!!!" The Jinks Appreciation Society

I agree with Thelen, what let the 8-bit down was sprites. As far as sound,at the time I saw 8-bit and C64 versions of several titles and the 8-bit versions always sounded better, that is just my opinion.

Shawn, Best of luck with it. I take it Best couldn't help you? They seem to have a couple of 1400 and 1450 bits for sale but I couldn't find the PAL chip.

It isn't always about the purchase cost, its more about what an item is worth to you, personally. I think you did ok, you got manuals for most of the games, some original catalogues and a woody. If it makes you happy then it was worth it.

Thanks Joey! -
I posted originally in the international section and didn't get much interest, plus Bryan's enthusiasm for starting up the Miami group has inspired me to try again. We're looking at putting together an 8-bit event in the UK sometime in 2004 to cover both the 400/800/XL/XE range plus the 2600 and 7800. We need enthusiastic volunteers , if anyone has previous hands on experience of organising such events than that is a bonus. Venue would be in the midlands to make it fairer for everyone to get to. Ideally we'd be looking at a combination of the Philly classic and Jagfest with exhibitors and sponsors lined up alongside enthusiasts, collectors etc. Apart from that ideas etc are welcome. Speaking to Dave C , formerly of NAUG, the idea of a new UK user group is still out there so again, if anyone is interested, let me know. Ideas, suggestions welcome.

Looking for a 5200? Here's some deals to check out!
svenski replied to Brad2600's topic in Auction Central
They dropped in the last 3 weeks. Typical ebay, someone posted one, got well over $100 for it, then everyone else realised they had one and thought they could make the same.. now ebay is flooded with them. -
Stand in line David, stand in line If I find two, I'll let you have one . If I get just one, well we can share .

What is your *honest* opinion of the pre-1984 Atari company?
svenski replied to ElectricTroy's topic in Atari 2600
The reason the 7800 was delayed so long was due to the sale of Atari to the Tramiels. They were focused on stemming the losses, turning the business around and the new ST line. The 7800 was not on their list of priorities. -
TXG, go start yer own threads you cheapskate!!! TXG will pay you in Dutch sheckles

Impossible no, in fact I missed one recently (a 1400XL that is) simply because I stumbled on a forum a couple of days too late. I've seen the 1450XLD in the flesh, and an 815. The portable 65 XEP is out there somewhere too.

I thought it was the six switch that was more collectable?........ £500 BIN ... kinda excessive. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=38597

I wonder if there is an atari version out there that just didn't make it to release stage.

for personal collection. Also looking for 1450XLD, 815 drive and Atari 8-bit related prototypes.

Great stuff, was the Equalizer music chosen because you were wanting to correct the past?!

I hate those vendio style auction pages where sellers can ditch the images right after the auction closes . Personally I wouldn't like to ship anyone something covered in crap but thats just me. Some people have no shame

As Gunstar said whilst the socket might always be 5 pin, the pinouts are different. The cable B&C provide has all 4 RCA jacks. It will work with the C64 and the XL/XE but you use different jacks. The white jack provides the video which tends to confuse me as on every tv in the house white means audio. As for my first post, apologies, I'd forgotten the genesis had a monitor out
