Does anyone else get an audio glitch or pop every minute or so while playing Tempest 3000 on an SD2300? It’s the only problem I have with this unit, other games and music CD’s are fine, so annoying.

So I tried the 54MHz crystal on the N505 and it was a no go, as expected it screwed with the video timing and I could only get a scrambled image output over Svideo. Also when trying to load Tempest 3000 it would get stuck on reading for about a minute and then eject the disc. I didn’t think it would be so simple but had fun trying.

It doesn't necessarily making game playing any more enjoyable, but the stick itself is smooth as butter.
I would agree.

Does anyone remember what the firmware update did for the SD-2300?

Sadly the N501 and N505 appear to have the same VLM resolution. The DRC300N appears to have the higher resolution but not the same number of effects.

Hi guys, it’s been awhile!
So I got my hands on an N505 and was able to add controller ports scavenged from an N501. Was really hoping to see some kind of performance bump with the N505 having the faster Aries 3 but it seems to run exactly the same as the N501. Even with the Aries 3 version of Doom it plays just as poorly as the N501.
I do have an RCA DRC300N and the Aries 3 version of Doom flies, unfortunately there is no way I know of to attach a controller to this system or play commercial games.
You’d think Doom would play the same between these two systems, the N505 and DRC300N, both having the Aries 3. The firmware must be gimped on the N505. Would really like to know if the N504 performs any better or is it gimped just the same?
Ive also ordered a 54 MHz crystal to swap out with the 27 MHz stock crystal to see if I can overclock the N505 to the full 108 MHz the Aries 3 has to offer.
Looking forward to trying out the latest version of nuance and maybe one day getting a rotary built!

More 3D plz! I’ll check this out later.

Possibly fantastic news if true!

Maybe to change between csync or sync on composite? Without any shielding really on that cable I’d probably chuck it.

Got it, is the spray IPA based? That’s the one thing I should of tried was cleaning the whole board with IPA. I hope you fix it!

Yes was still getting the random power connection screen. I sold the unit to another member, hopefully they can fix it. Thanks for the help!

Just curious if anyone has those original files? Interested in printing some up for the game room.

Thanks! Both are the PC98 ports. Doom is the 3.5 disk version and Doom 2 is on CD-ROM, love these big box sets. Would really like to find the 5.25 disk version of Doom. I can't wait for Slayer edition!

No dice on new regulators, thought for sure that would have resolved it. Any other ideas?

Hi all,
I’m trying to repair a Jaguar CD unit that will randomly show the no power connected screen. When it does boot, the laser mechanism moves but the motor never starts for the CD. I’ve checked the spindle of course and it moves freely. I’ve gone ahead and replaced the capacitors and power jack with no change. I’ve also tested it with a known good laser transport that includes the motor and no change. Anyone have any ideas? We know what typically breaks of you plug the wrong adapter into the Jaguar base unit but how about the CD unit? Maybe I should try replacing the two power regulators?

I haven’t spent as much time as I’d like with this controller but I’m finding it works quite well with Iron Soldier.
