Tiger Electronics LCD Handhelds - The Return
deckardbr replied to Hwlngmad's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I was collecting these Tiger games a few years ago. I was collecting Nintendo Game and Watch and picked up a Tiger Mega Man on a whim. I found it pretty fun and actually impressive for an lcd game. It had boss battles, levels etc. I then started picking more of these up and ended up getting some rare ones. These games are very similar to Game and Watch style games. Very simple but can be addictive and fun. They also vary widely in quality. Some can be really fun with good gameplay. Others can be very easy with no challenge. I wish someone would interview some of the old Tiger programmers and find out the ones who really put the time in to try and make a good game experience with them. The best Tiger game I found was Space Harrier 2 which unfortunately is also very rare. It's a really great shooter, very challenging and has boss battles. -
Understandable. I didn't mean to come off too snarky but I have all the Numbskulls they've made so far and really enjoy them. I also have the Replicades. I think you should give one a try if you find them for a good price. I enjoy reading your reviews and I'm a big mini arcade, tabletop fan.
-
Wait you play the myarcades for hours on one credit but speak against the Replicades and Numskulls (which are far superior with amazing controls) because they are small and will cramp your hand? Ok then. They are literally almost the same size. The quality on Numbskulls are even superior to Arcade1up. So your willing to pay for a somewhat accurate but not really Galaga Arcade1up but speak against the smaller more accurate versions from other companies?

Not making them full size is purposeful so you can move them around easily. They are intended to be a home item that can be moved to different rooms as needed. The risers allow you to raise them up to be near full arcade cabinet height. As for the weight you have to keep in mind people will be moving these from room to room depending on use and so the lighter plywood helps. And also they are still a bit heavy when all put together! The only used market I've seen on ebay has been fully put together units for pick up only. The boxes are also very heavy. Can you imagine how heavy the boxes would be if they were entertainment center board quality in there? I think what they did was a good compromise and gives you an arcade style feel in the home.

Thanks for the correction that the flashes are authentic. Haven't played the coin op in many years and every emulated version (even the one included on Rogue Squadron 3 for the gamecube) doesn't have it. I just wish the $499 pricepoint was abit lower but you do get the riser with it. It's a great looking machine.

The Star Wars Arcade1up contains a grey flash that last a second when you get hit. This was not present in the original game. You can see it here Most likely Arcade1up added this as a way for players to know they've been hit easier and lost a shield. But that's strange to add something like that when your going for arcade authentic.

I'm waiting for the Rolling Thunder MyArcade but I agree the sticks on those mini cabinets could be alot better. Centering them would be a good start. I have the burgertime and find it unplayable because of the precision involved with the ladders and the controls just are not up to that kind of precision. Also thanks Negative 1 for the heads up on the Tempest lag. I've had that replicade for about a month and haven't played it much. The lag would answer why it seemed off. Their centipede I've been playing often and have really enjoyed.

They just delayed it to April 2019. I was all set to buy it also.

Hey that looks really cool...goes to website and sees this: Material costs for a single game range from $1000-1500. $5k for standard game $8k for Ms. Pac-man - hand painted - custom inlay Commissions $4k total 50% upfront Uhm....no

No Stereo sound! A volume adjust that only has mute, loud and louder. And zero dip switch settings. Meaning you can't adjust difficulty at all. So much for the feel of actually owning an arcade cabinet. Unless you plan on only playing versus matches with your friends (and enjoy blaring loud volume) I would pass on this cabinet. They really need to upgrade volume and options on these cabinets. And no stereo sound is ridiculous at that price point.

Is MyArcade no longer doing Rolling Thunder? They have three of the Namco titles on their website you can order but that one is absent. It's going to be the Nes port but that was the one I wanted the most.

Are Retro Gamers Ruining YouTube?
deckardbr replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I admit I watch alot of those youtube channels as I love retro gaming but 99% of those youtubers all have common elements 1. They believe Nes was the greatest thing ever invented next to Oxygen. 2nd runner up is the SNES 2. The genesis didn't exist and if it did its a "niche" console. 3. What's an Amiga? 4. Shelves in the background filled with boxes of Nintendo 64 games. Sports games are fine as long as the shelves look full. 5. Pick up videos also known as the Brag video. "I got sent Little Samson for free, thanks Jack from Michigan!" Unless the game is super rare or a prototype the pick up videos tend to be the worst for me especially the ones where they are mailed the free shit. -
Gamestop will be closing down stores
deckardbr replied to FOX2600's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I wanted to add my experience with them of selling gutted games as new. The worst part of this ridiculous practice is how the employees handle it. When you explain to them that this is in fact not a new copy, you then get a deer in headlights expression from them as if they are saying "this is a totally normal and acceptable thing, how could you not want this gutted game with a new price tag?" This happened to me recently where they tried to pull this scam (and lets face it, its a scam) and I insisted on buying a used copy instead at the used price. Thankfully the employee quickly switched it out for a used one without much fuss. I think alot of gamestops have lost customers due to their insane upselling practices of trying to get you to pre-order games and to sell you on their membership plan and very thin magazine. Some stores are better then others when it comes to this upselling stuff but its a major hinderance on purchasing anything from them. If you remember Radio Shack used to ask you for all kinds of personal infromation and they are now pretty much done. Hopefully Gamestop will make some changes to their store policies and just stop selling gutted used copies as new. -
Zelda Breath of the Wild - Advice/Help thread

I love speedruns, thanks for posting this -
Nonsense crying? So people who believed the developer when he said a multitude of features would be in the game which were completely absent at launch and are still absent are just crying over nothing? And all the people on Steam who looked at the screenshots and said "hey that looks cool" and downloaded a game that looked completely different is "nonsense crying". Unbelievable. And all of these updates they have been adding to the game are not adding the most important features from the original trailers. Dynamically randomly generated creatures who travel in herds and are not just cut and paste jobs. Planets that actually orbit stars and spaceship factions. Instead we get to build little forts and race cars. Great.

Here is someone who managed to get six of them and wants $2,000 each for them http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-NES-Classic-Edition-Mini-Console-with-30-Games-System-In-Hand-Now-NIB-/152314742669?hash=item2376aa878d:g:l~oAAOSwHMJYJe3-

That is madness. This is a Nes on a chip system! Nintendo always does this short supply nonsense but how can they justify a short supply of such a cheaply made product??
-
Cool looking tech but a poor launch lineup in my opinion. Also it's very expensive! I think for a hundred dollars less and some better launch titles it would be a more attractive package.
-
All he does is post bug fix reports on the Hello Games twitter account. Maybe someone should tell him that missing factions and all those other missing features constitutes a bug and he can fix it.

I spent a week solid on this game. The repeating building structures and aliens you meet finally just started to drive me crazy. And the fact that all the ships flew the same, the combat amounted to nothing, etc just made me put down the controller. There was just nothing to do but grind to the center. The first few hours of this game are solid if you like space sims and then you realize how spectacularly empty it all is. The fact that the developer lied through his teeth with that affable sheepish smile is just really disturbing to me. It almost makes me wonder if he's been getting away with this stuff all his life by just smiling and charming his way out of the messes he made. Another thing that fascinates me is that what if he wasn't lieing and there was a build out there that has all the things he was talking about. And that build was pulled for some reason. Why did this happen?

I collect mini arcades so thanks for the heads up on this. That 200 games one is a Multicade that has many arcade clones and nes clones on it and it looks like an arcade machine. It does have that color LCD screen and a nice select game select menu.

Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?
deckardbr replied to phoenixdownita's topic in Modern Console Discussion
At this point someone needs to do an on camera sit down interview with Mike or a podcast interview. I think enough time has passed (except this thread!) where he can do a sober look back and talk about what really happened. And plug his magazine as incentive to even do the interview. Certainly an interview with him would be a major "get" and would drive up big views to a youtube page. If anything it would be entertaining. -
They are still undoing the damage that began with Kinect and their tv minded xbox one launch. The Xbox One was always underpowered because it was mostly going to be a TV DVR device with game capability. This new update is part of reversing that. Now if they have exclusive games that will be Scorpio only that will be a real interesting development. Or if the Scorpio will outperform the PS Neo which is what I think they want.
