Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?
deckardbr replied to phoenixdownita's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Piko Interactive dealt with a Mr. Lee. Is Mr. Lee really Sean? Why does Mike not mention this Lee person? It was a huge part of the story and narrative. -
First off, thank you for revisiting the table top games! I've collected all of the coleco ones and I'm a huge fan of them. For modern takes on them 1. Do complete reproductions of the original released cabinet versions. People would love this and for a reasonable price unlike what's on ebay right now. 2. For Pac Man, for instance, you can license regular pac man from namco and then maybe have an alternate version on there that will switch to an emulator of the classic coleco version. 3. License digital leisure to make a space ace and dragon's lair one. They will sell huge amounts. 4. Make some multi game cabs from different atari and namco compilations. 5. Fighting games. The fighting game community would love a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat one. Midway would definitely license MK for that.

Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?

Was Mike this quiet after the Retro VGS went under? I seem to remember more announcements and statements from him. I think there is still more to this story that may show up in an eventual documentary. Who was the mysterious Lee that Piko dealt with? What did the people who run Mike's Retro magazine know? Finally what was the real end game plan after the kickstarter? I think the final product would have been snes boards literally gutted from actual snes and super famicoms. He then would make the consoles limited edition and not produce that many. We may never find out unless someone actually starts confronting people investigative news journalism style. -

Not sure if this was posted earlier, here is a comment from Gamester81 on the situation. This comes from his latest uploaded video Gamester814 hours ago +NachoMan64 Not sure what the Coleco Chameleon has to do with the Star Wars pinball. LOL, but to answer your question, we're distancing ourselves from the Chameleon unless proof of a prototype is shown. We were never a part of the hardware team, so I honestly wasn't aware of what was going on behind the scenes and the decisions they made. They have shot themselves in the foot on more than one occasion as you know. Fortunately for CollectorVision we are porting games on multiple platforms regardless, so we are just going to focus on doing just that. -

Thats the big question and the key to all this I think. What kickstarter would have allowed. The biggest kickstarter scam I remember was Code Hero. But that had a working level as a prototype. If the Snes Jr was never discovered, which was Mike's plan, that would have been the prototype used for the kickstarter. And thus the scam. Kickstarter would never have asked to look at the innards of the prototype (I think). -

Has anyone tried posting to the facebook page? Is he pulling posts? Personally I don't think Mike is done. The Kickstarter will happen probably out of his own stubborness. Do you think if the Snes Jr was never discovered the Kickstarter would have happened without the delay? If so, then he may be looking to grab the kickstarter funds and then flee with the money. Which has happened before. -

Listening to the podcast where they admit to the back of the snes board, found at 1 hour 3 min http://readretro.com/features/talk-retro-24/ My question, if that is a prototype board with a snes back how are they going to accommodate HDMI in the finished board? The prototype would have been using the back of a snes board (is that even possible?) with the composite out? Or should I just not take what he said on that podcast as serious at all? -

I bet the kickstarter will have the words "With these funds we'll be able to develop an amazing FPGA board!" while completely ignoring that prototype that was supposed to be a finished board in the first place. -

I wouldn't be surprised if this is using actual transcripts from real conversations -
Which Windows OS is better for retro computing?
deckardbr replied to SSG's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Nope, the device drivers in 98 were based off NT. From the Windows 98 Wiki "Device driver access in WDM is actually implemented through a VxD device driver, NTKERN.VXD which implements several Windows NT-specific kernel support functions. NTKERN creates IRPs and sends them to WDM drivers." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_98 The question was also not about stability. It was asking about retro computing for windows games. Dos games are easily played using Dosbox but Windows games made during 1994-98 get abit tricky. The best way to play those is on the original Windows 95 platform. Otherwise you have to hunt down install patches to make the games work correctly. If you want an out of the box (or out of the CD) install and play experience, a retro computer running Windows 95 will play everything from that era. -
Which Windows OS is better for retro computing?

For retro computing with Windows based games, Windows 95 is the best all around solution. All the Dos games are fully playable (as long as you tweak that autoexec.bat sometimes) and all the Windows 95 games work right off the CD. In Windows 98 and above, some of those windows 95 installers won't work because 98 was based off Windows NT. Games after 2001 probably won't run on 95 but if your talking 1997 and before, Windows 95 is the way to go. Of course DosBox will work great for anything Dos based but I'm considering if you want to run Windows based games after the Dos era -
Hey everyone, Does anyone have I, Cyborg for Vectrex and willing to part with it? Thanks!
-
Thanks for the reply! I tried messaging him from his website. I think he's having family health issues that prevent him from fulfilling orders. I'd love to purchase from him or anyone who has the cart. If I hear back from Packrat Games, I'll edit this post and ask for it to be closed.

Hi, looking for the Protector and YASI homebrew cart for Vectrex. Thanks!

I was collecting coleco tabletop and other VFD tabletop games for some time. I picked up a Tiger Electronics Metal Gear which is very fun but also very loud! If I can recommend one LCD game it would be the Zelda Game and Watch. It's brilliant with the dungeon on the bottom screen and a boss battle on the top.

I just got back into Lynx collecting and I see this post. Fantastic news! Please let us know if we can help donate to make a cart release.

I still use my launch (maybe a few months after launch) fat ps2. It takes awhile to load discs at startup but otherwise works great. First game I bought for it was Gauntlet Dark Legacy. At the time it was the only port of that game. Gauntlet Legends was on dreamcast and ps1 etc but Dark Legacy was the newer version.

Nintendo registers "Super Mario 4" domain name
deckardbr replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Modern Console Discussion
To be honest a retro side scroller is not an amazing way to launch your new state of the art WII U console. I guess its the safe choice and will make all the SNES/NES fans remind them of how super mario was a launch game for that system etc As much as I like sprites, if it had Mario Galaxy quality graphics times 5 I'd be interested... -

If you have Parallels it runs perfectly on Mac -
My first time posting here, I used to have a Lynx version 1 years ago, now a new owner of a lynx model 2 (how amazing is the design of this version) and a handful of games. To think that the gameboy was more successful than this system is almost criminal in my mind especially with games like Stun Runner and APB which had no other home releases outside of an Amiga computer. And the polygon rendering of Steel Talon (and other games like it), could that have been done on a genesis or snes? Honestly curious. Reminds me of what is happening today with the Sony Vita and nintendo 3ds. As good as the 3ds is, the hardware of the vita is so superior. The vita just needs better games, too bad Atari no longer makes them as they used too.
