  1. Nice score of vintage C= goodies! BTW: how do you like those un-roller controllers? Never had a set back in the day, but was always curious about 'em...

Haven't had a chance to try them yet, but just based on messing around with them unplugged, I imagine they're pretty awkward to use during a game which requires any amount of rapid movement. But as a GEOS semi-trackball? They're probably a nice mouse alternative, as they're quite ergonomic and let you keep your hand in a natural position when you use them.

  2. Wow, what a sweet score for $100. I try to keep a hundred or two lying around when I hit the yard sales just for that sort of thing - but alas, either everyone here in Bakersfield/Tehachapi wants to keep their 8 bit stuff or they just don't have any more. It's been about 5 years since I've seen some Atari or Commodore stuff at the yard sales.

I never see any Commodore stuff at the yard sales I visit (although I did run across a nice boxed TRS-80 a few weeks back; not my scene, though, so I let it go). However, they do pop up locally on Craigslist ever so often, and that's where I found this set.

Here's a picture of most of the stuff that came with it, sans some of the software boxes and the manuals:

Again, for the money I couldn't be happier with what I got, even if it did land me several angry stares from the wife as I was hauling my latest bounty upstairs to the man cave. I guess I'd better hold off on any more significant purchases for a while lest my significant other decide to up and brain me whilst I sleep. :)

  3. I don't really need the cash, so I'll probably just hang on to it. But I could see where it might be a nice item to have in hand should the right trade opportunity come along. I was really just more curious than anything.

Oh, and I did fire it up today; really quite impressive, honestly. Nice wireframe graphics, and a much better screen refresh rate than the old Sub Logic flight simulator. Controller is fantastic as well. I was doing snap barrel rolls and knife edges right out of the gate (although to be fair, I was heavy into RC planes a couple years back). It's no RealFlight G5, but I can see how it would have blown RC hobbyists' minds back in the late 80s.

  4. Hey guys!

Picked up a personal C128 collection yesterday, and among lots of great hardware and software, I ran across this little gem that I'd never seen before:

It's in pristine condition (although as you can see the box has some very minor spots on the label). The only other reference I've been able to find for it online is here, and in that thread a guy was talking about paying $42 just for the hand-made controller. Anyone have an idea of what the CIB version might go for among Commodore collectors?

  5. Isn't the digital content on a 3DS bound to your Nintendo account? Or is it bound to the device? I would think that if it's bound to your Nintendo account, then it will likely be just about worthless to whoever you sell it to, as they'll have to set up their own account in order to buy new content in the future (and I doubt you'll want to give them your account as it is likely populated with your payment information).

I honestly don't know, but am curious. That's a really important point know for anyone who's looking into buying either a DSi or a 3DS.

  6. A "fair" price would probably be around 25% off list.

But the price at which you're likely to actually sell it? I'd guess $150 at most, and that would likely be a slow burn. $125 for quick sell.

And keep in mind, the longer you wait, the closer we're going to get to the release of the 3DS XL (8/19, I think), which will all but certainly depress your asking price even further.

  7. Isn't LM2 coming out on the 3DS? I would love to see it on the wii, did I miss something?

I'd heard a rumor that it was going to be coming out on both 3DS and Wii, but after checking just now, it looks like the rumors are now pointing towards it being a Wii-U release instead. Too bad, as I don't have a 3DS and have no intentions of picking up a Wii-U until well into the console's life-cycle.

btw, the game isnt that difficult. My son beat it and he was 7yrs. old. :)

And I beat Mike Tyson when I was 9, but can't even come close now. Your point?? ;)

  8. I loved both Super Mario Sunshine AND Luigi's Mansion (can't wait to grab the Wii version of LM2). What's with all the hate? SMS wasn't that hard; I collected almost every single shine. The hardest level I remember was that stupid pinball-styled bonus level. Took me forever to get that shine. But as far as the main game proper, it was mostly a breeze, and the last fight with Bowser was a joke; beat it on my first try.

As for Luigi's Mansion, while I never thought the main game was too difficult (although it did occasionally get tedious), the end boss fight in that one was a beast as I recall; Giant Mecha-Bowser controlled by King Boo. Took me several tries before I beat him. But still, it was a great game, although it obviously wasn't a "Mario" style game, which I think was why most people dissed it as a Gamecube launch title. In my mind, it's sort of like Hotel Mario--good fun in it's own right, even if it does diverge considerably from the tried and true SMB formula.

  9. I'm not going to give up my beloved FZ-1 any time soon, but for anyone with a spare 3DO lying around, this is indeed a heck of a deal JR is offering. I was recently pricing used 8GB 4G Ipod Touches for my sister (she wanted one for her 12yo to use for texting in lieu of paying a phone bill each month), and I couldn't find one for less than $120 on craigslist over the course of a week. And those that -were- listed at $120 - $130 were almost always sold by the time I called.

Also, the 4G iPod Touch is a thing of beauty and an amazing value for what it is. I actually bought mine last year for a trip to Prague my company sent me on so I could use it to video call home (using either Skype or one of the countless other VoiP apps for iOS) while I was there without having to pay for Int'l minutes. And as I said, my sister was tired of paying for her 12yo's crazy texting bill, so she just got her one of these and set it up with GoogleTalk, and now she can text all day for free so long as she's got an Internet connection. Good stuff.

  10. Just got my latest package of games and accessories from ax. Everything was packed well and arrived in great condition. Great guy to deal with, and he definitely knows how to take good care of his stuff.
