  1. Hey Guys, I am in the process of building my tiny little VCS collection, and I've managed to purchase most of the gate folds, but I am missing:

    * Basic Math

    * Star Ship

    * Surround

    * Indy 500

    Can anybody help me out?

    -Thom

    I believe i have an extra copy of Star Ship. Basic Math is a TOUGH get. Tele-Games MATH in gatefold is extremely difficult to find as well.

  2. My PAL version has the same QC sticker, the colours on your screen look slightly different to mine too, not sure what that means :?

    Does your QC sticker have a P on it instead of an N? Colors should be different on mine compared to yours if it is indeed NTSC.

  3. Were the controllers in a separate box as with the Star Raiders keypad, or were they loose in the bigger box???????????????

    Here are two pics of my CIB 1977 Indy 500. Note the yellow front letters and the white side letters. There was not a box for the controllers for mine, but rather a cardboard insert that held the tops of the controllers. Hope this helps. There was a box that held the racing controllers in the Racing Pak as you can see in the third pic. I have not had one of the 1978 Indy 500 big box games so I am not sure if there was a complete box just for the controllers located inside the main box.

    Define "game". The rarest title, and certainly the one that goes for most money, is a complete copy of Pokemon Box. It was only available from the Pokemon online shop or the Pokemon store in NY (which is now the general Nintendo World store instead). Really wish I could go back in time and order more than the two copies I did for $20 when it was new heh...

    But I'm guessing the game you are referring to here is NCAA College Basketball 2k3. My copy sold for $100, which wasn't too bad. Especially as I bought it for $20 originally (found it used in a Gamestop!).

    Having said that, my copy of the Metroid Prime / Wind Waker double pack-in sold for $250.

    Not sure i would classify Pokemon Box as a game. Seems more of a storage vehicle. Nice find for sure on your NCAA game. Probably the hardest game to find in the wild.

  5. Hi, folks. At this point, I believe I am going to begin to collect for my Gamecube. At this moment I have two games for it but would like to have more. I'm not buying right now, but I need some names for some of you out there that sell Gamecube games from time to time.

    For types of games, the usual avoidance of sports games unless Mario is in them. 1st party is great, 3rd party is fine as well. My only two games I have right now are Tales of Symphonia and Animal Crossing. I would also be interested in a larger card (the only one I have is the one that came with Animal Crossing, so you can imagine I have very little space.

    I would be willing to hit you up (PM) from time to time and ask if you have anything to sell. Please let me know who you are so I can make contact for a good Gamecube game source.

    Thank you!

    Funny thing is that the rarest game for the gamecube happens to be a sports game. :)

  6. This post does my heart good. It can be difficult to hone in on why the 2600 means so much to so many people. It has an incredible history and legacy without a doubt. It is a very personal thing really. For me it certainly began with the fact that I grew up in Palo Alto in the 70's. Palo Alto is maybe 10 miles from Sunnyvale and I vividly remember seeing the Atari 2600 arrive in stores around the Bay Area when I was 9 and could not believe what I was seeing. Add to that the fact that when I was 10 I had an Atari programmer on my paper route. I don't remember his name but I do remember that about every couple of months he would take me and some of my friends to Atari headquarters on a Sunday and we would play the coin-op games they had there.......for free! My family could not afford a 2600 but he gave me one as a Christmas bonus in 1979. I no longer have that specific console but I heavily collect for the 2600 and feel that console is part of my own history and soul. Nothing like it had really existed to that level before and it has led to everything that exists now. I cannot believe what video gaming has become and the progress that has been made. But I do appreciate where it started and experienced it first-hand and I think that is another huge part of my affinity for the 2600. Good luck with your collecting as I think you will find it to be the most rewarding of all the consoles.

  7. Purchased this off of eBay last week on a total prayer that it might be NTSC. Seller was selling other individual games and a system that were all ntsc. Game did not roll on my ntsc 2600 and tv (older style tv) and colors looked right, plus it filled the screen. Then I remembered that these used to have stickers on the back that would denote PAL or NTSC. From the looks of it I lucked out. :)

  8. Dear Fellow AAers,

    Some of you know that I am a university professor teaching in a Game & Interactive Media Design program. I am proud to keep video game history alive for the students in the program so they can better understand fundamental design principles as well as have a sense of what has come before and where they may go in the future.

    To help with that endeavor, I have started to collect video games from across all platforms and eras, hardware and software, and even merchandise, too, for student use and reference in our game lab.

    My intention is not to compete with The Strong Museum, although they are certainly an inspiration.

    Thus far we have a little bit of everything: a couple of Atari 2600s and a small collection of carts, NES and SNES games, PS2 games, an original Xbox and games, a DS Lite, a few arcade coin-ops (BurgerTime and Ms. Pac-Man), one of those Midway multicabs, and even a claw machine. A few weeks ago a Virtual Boy just sort of showed up. We also have a good selection of board games. I am in the process of cleaning up one of my spare Colecovisions and I grabbed a RetroN 5 to play those NES & SNES carts, although my preference is for authentic hardware whenever possible. We also have the last two generations of consoles.

    What I am asking is for you to please consider donating anything that you might have but don't want that is related to gaming in any way. As the university is a 501©(3) organization, I can issue tax credit for anything you might like to donate. (Within reason - no eBay "$500 Pac-Man" carts.) I wish I had a budget for acquisitions, but at this time I am starting small.

    Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this. Please PM me if you would like additional information or to make a donation.

    Given that I am in California and you appear to be in North Carolina (thank you for Madison Bumgarner, by the way) could shipping costs possibly be covered?

  9. Wasn't aware there were two types of paddles. What are the differences between the tennis ones and the driving ones?

    The paddles that came originally with the system are actually a set, two of them tethered together, and they are used for all paddle games except Indy 500. The original paddles have stoppers that keep the knob from turning perpetually. The Indy 500 paddles have no stoppers and you can spin them all the way around. When u said you wanted 1 paddle it made me think you wanted the Indy 500 paddle since you can get those as a single paddle. However, if u want to play breakout, kaboom, etc then u want the original paddles.

  10. Looking to buy several 2600 games and hookups.

    Also in search of these hookups....

    1 original 2600 paddle controller

    1 original 2600 joystick controller

    1 original 2600 power hookup 120 volt

    Obviously want to try to get a lot of this at a time if possible. If you have any of these items you can sell, PM me and we can work a price out.

    I have everything you have listed except dark chambers, donkey kong (i have the coleco version), HERO, outlaw, pong sports, smurf, solaris, star fox, and turmoil. By paddle controller do you mean the tennis paddles or the single driving paddle?
