  1. The R77 is updatable with Linux or Mac; thus far the 2600+ is Windows only. This matters for some. The 2600+ looks nicer & has a better build quality & of course 7800 compatibility. As previously mentioned, R77 is pot luck to get a unit that won't glitch out with updates. Mine suffered lockups after updating (reverted back). Even with the original firmware; it's still an option worth considering IMO. Even if you opt for the R77 adding the new +joystick & +paddles are absolutely worth it. The Gamestation Pro won't play any carts & currently doesn't support any cx40 style controller (it's included stick is flacky with maze games often missing turns). Adding games to the SD card couldn't be easier. Windows only firmware updates as well. If you don't mind using modern controllers only, no carts, non classic aesthetic, Win only updates; it's the superior choice. I've all three & still dont know which I like best but the R77 sees the least daylight fwiw.
  2. I ordered one. I'm not even getting the 400 mini (holding out for an XL ir XE Mini). My hope is it'll work with the Atari GSP and or Evercade. If it doesn't; I guess it'll go in my big box of unloved controllers. I'm skeptical about the ring button placement but figured I'd take a chance.
  3. I'm too lazy to search & compare ... a safe bet would be that any games included on their previous minis (c64 etc) are likely canadites for THE400 if an existing Atari version is available. I'm most curious about the "missing" 4 buttons. (Suppose to have 7 buttons, pics only show 3) Rumor says they are in the orange control ring, but how would they not be accidentally pressed all the time?
  4. Atari GSP Hands Down. The only thing I don't like about it are the included joysticks are flaky (but at least they won't snap like a fb lol). The paddles are vastly better than any on a FB. The menu system is more responsive. Without annoying lag or jarring sound fx. It boots faster. The included game library is better. It's easier to add your own games. It supports more 3rd party controllers (unfortunately no classic style joysticks). It's not made of peanut brittle. You don't have to hide it to save embarrassment when you've company. The company seems to be improving over time, not cranking out the sames mistakes over & over & over.
  5. So with the USB C (rear) plugged into a Linux PC, & the internal USB also plugged in (it just appears to supply power; irrelevant of the power switch position) ... lsusb reports a device ID if the colorbw switch is in the BW position. With the cables reversed (using the usb c rear for power) I couldn't get lsusb to report a device ID at all. Not advising or making claims or suggestions, just sharing my result in case of someone being curious.
  6. Sorry I've been away. https://www.myarcadegaming.com/pages/atari-gamestation-firmware-upgrade-to-v-1-3-only The only one available afaik. The adapter 2 Is the beta update. https://support.8bitdo.com/firmware-updater.html Have your pad switched to BT. Plug the dongle 2 into the gsp (w usb c to b adapter) obviously. The dongle light will flash; press start on the pad. The flashing light will now be solid. At this point, press a few buttons they should work. Go thru the steps to change the directional mode if it's not working. I had to do it a few times for some reason. I've been using it everyday, it works great & I don't ever have to re pair it. After it worked the 1st time its just automatic. Not sure where the problem is for you, but you'll be very pleased when it hits. There is absolutely no reason it should not work.
  7. The current joystick tends to miss turns a bit. Mostly on games like ms pac man, but lots of others. Don't believe me? See how many levels you can get through, lol. Too bad Youtube "retro gamers" only play things for two minutes 😝 They haven't acknowledged or addressed this. The only "problem" they've addressed is the subjectively bad button layout. Which is cool and all, but I would think making it functional would take priority over subjective ergonomics. If they fix this with the new one, great, but I won't be purchasing anymore MyArcade prodocts until they at least acknowledge the stick has issues & do something to mitigate. If they expect someone to just buy the new one; that's a shiiit "solution". If they want people just to use a modern controller they'd best come up with some better compatibility as no modern classic style joystick (buttons on the left with a HAND stick, not thumb) works. Ignoring the issues won't pay in the long run.
  8. I don't like RPi's nor am I a fan of the Flasback series. I think I just clicked this post to be silently triggered 😝😜 But, damn. That's just freaking awesome. 🤘🤘🤘 Greater than the sum of its parts. Glorious.
  9. Consider the next two statements: 1. Everybody has a Mac or PC 2. Everybody has a smartphone. Which is closer to true? My strong opinion is #2. Can I PROVE it? No. For those that believe #1; you can't prove that. If you want to believe #1, great.
  10. https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/ Windows is not the most accessible. Laugh. Shitpost. Pile on. Edit & re edit delete rephrase repost. Lol. We're talking consumers not "computer users" 🙄 Sorry you're wrong; keep re-framing. You're "winning".
  11. Assumed no one. Your extrapolations are inaccurate.
  12. Windows is not in dominate prefered usage. https://gs.statcounter.com/platform-market-share/desktop-mobile-tablet Even a tiny hardware (game controllers) manufacturer has 100k downloads for a button mapping android app. Search 8bitdo on google play. The assumption that Windows only is acceptable has passed. Convenience & preference makes happy customers & the userbase argument is quickly becoming willful ignorance; and doesn't account for convenience or preference.
  13. Meaningless. 80% of Windows sales are not to end users; they are school & business workstations. The last few years have seen PCs being replaced by phones & tablets in massive droves. The percentage of homes having a smartphone only vs a mac/pc only are heavily on the smartphone side.
  14. The assumption that most people have easy access to a windows PC or Mac is false. The assumption that most people have easy access to an Android or iPhone is true. Times have changed.
  15. As stated & pictured, you need the 8bitdo dongle 2. Make it's at the latest firmware as well as the gamepad ... both. https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Wireless-Compatible-Controller-Bluetooth/dp/B09M8CVMYF/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2JVQ7J43HS72L&keywords=8bitdo&qid=1704460884&sprefix=8bit%2Caps%2C466&sr=8-3 The controller must be in BT mode, not 2.4 (switch on bottom). As an aside, the original dongle works with Evercade VS (sans home button) the dongle 2 doesn't.
  16. If you have issues with games like 2600 ms pac man qbert etc with the included sticks... It is because as you play you are pushing down (towards the base) on the stick & its regersting nonsensical direction combos (up+down) and causings glitching (geting stuck in walls) or simply missing a turn. Some games appear more sensitive than others. Im going to replace its tension spring with a heavier one when I get around to taking it apart again to measure the spring. Hopefully that'll fix that. Being mindful of the issue & its cause made a big difference.
  17. PS Works wired aOK. Wireless (using various dongles) and the button mapping makes it useless. Hori PS mini controller (wired only) works 100% but AB are slightly awkward as square.circle vs x.circle on a regular ps controller (pictured) 8bitdo NeoGeo pad (bt & 2.4) works great ... If you buy their newer bt dongle. I couldn't make it work wired, but I haven't tried again since it's last firmware. Some jackass on YT claims it only works with BOTH the newer dongle AND a Mayflash Magic adapter (and his left shoulder button is mapped as "A" 😝 Just the newer dongle only is needed. A&B are flipped (nes style) C is C D is Menu Shoulders are X & Z (no Y) Start & Select are Start & Select 8bitdo logo button is Home Star button is nothing. Make dure the dongle & controller are the latest firmware. Adjust Directional; if needed. Hold for 5 seconds (top light will flash) & autosave: Select+up Select+left Select+right Switches the thumbstick mode to hat/left/right stick accordingly (this is its manual that no one reads). I believe it was select-up that did it.
  18. The Common Sense Cable Consortium (CSCC) says: 1. If the plug fits; it's compatibility is guaranteed. 2. Plugs can only fit in one possible orientation. 3. A different cable type should be provided for each purpose (A/V I/O etc) 4. Each cable type has different shapes. Unfortunately, Ron Gooley, the founder of CSCC was mercilessly targeted through a highly effective "smear & erase" campaign orchestrated by the CIA in conjunction with aid from the CCP. His whereabouts are currently unknown, and his existence is denied by the powers that be.
  19. I'm a Linux user, not a zealot 😅 Everyone has different wants/needs & that's fine. WINE is wonderful when used as intended with reasonable expectations. It'd be pretty weird (and unprofessional) to have an app that's flashing hardware depend on it. I don't think we'll see that anyways. It can be a good band-aid in desperate times though.
  20. Wine on linux is not the answer. It rarely is. Flatpak or shellscript would be ideal. Google & other houses have been having firmware updates via web-browser; if you want to get fancy & 100% os agnostic. At a minimum, I'd think we should have an option for updating the 2600+ thru the VCS.
  21. The longest lasting most durable joystick from BITD is the Suncom TAC-3. They are ugly AF. They creak & crack during play. Not the most ergonomic. But they are accurate & to this day I've never seen a broken or non working unit. Even "untested" eBay, gamestores, fleamarkets, garage sales ... never a busted one. I've two from the early 80s and are the only controllers from that era I've never had to perform maintenance on. Even if you hate them; they make great test-controllers.
  22. I feel your pain. Purchase a custom modded joystick; or learn to mod. That's where it's at right now.
  23. An obscure but interesting option (for like maybe two people 😜) is a Colecovision passthru numberpad. It allows a Genesis controller to function & the numpad buttons act as 7800 2nd button (well, primary for now since they are switched until a firmware update). Anyone know how an OG Colecovision controller behaves on a 7800 or 2600+ ?
  24. I got the amazing nostalgia ball kick the 1st time I handled the new joystick. I'm so sick & tired of re-soldering, re-cableing, rejiggering ... 40 year old sticks. I'm so done with modern remade classic controllers that break after a month (atGames, Retrobit). The new cx40+ is freaking A+++++. I don't care if it's made with dead hamsters; it feels & plays just like a brand new original cx40. I'll be purchasing several more.
