They are probably difficulty settings -- you can usually change the payout scale on those things through switches.

Indiana Jones for N64 available in OKC area
Flack replied to shadow460's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
These must be everywhere in OKC. I picked up a complete copy (w/manual and box) from a Blockbuster/Gamerush a while back. I think it went for about $30 on eBay. -
So, did you make it to any local arcades?
-
Yup, it's a bit different from the NES. FWIW I just recently sold a dual NES VS. Cabinet for $200 with Super Mario Bros. on one side and Dr. Mario on the other.
-
As several others have mentioned, I'm not sure MAME cabinets are ever "done" -- at least the ones I've worked on aren't. My cabinet seems to change along with the mood I'm in at the time. When I first started mine I wanted to put every rom for every system ever made on my cab, but I'm in the process of trimming my cab back down. I've found that I very rarely play console games while standing up, so having all that stuff on there is kind of pointless to me now. I'm even thinking about stripping off all the ROMs I've never played, or at least trying to incorporate some sort of favorites list. I don't have the know-how or the skills to do a rotating monitor, but I do have a generic vertical cabinet that's about to become my next victim project.

I don't know much about fixing 64's, but I have several in my garage and the last two I bought cost less than $3. You might check your local thrifts for a an old Commie to use as a replacement or for parts.

I think before I tried it I would stop smoking blunts ...

Lego Star Wars is coming out for the GC before Xmas this year. My son will be 4 in December and he and love playing that game together. It's Legos, it's Star Wars, it's a videogame. What's not to love?

Or you can get Williams Arcade greatest hits for the SNES for a penny off of eBay, and then put your SNES on a 42" stool.

It's back. And, from the front page:

Exactly. The mods over there suck, and they got what they deserved by being attacked by hackers. By the way, when mods DON'T lock duplicate topics, you end up with three or four threads to search through every time you want to talk about something. For example: Taito Legends http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78107 Taito Legends, and others http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78363 Taito Legends http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=75160 Taito Legends Impressions... http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77850 Personally I find that more annoying than locking down duplicate topics, but in the end it's just a matter of preference.

NES-on-a-chip vs. real NES hardware
Flack replied to Bill Brasky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think when people refer to toaster's blinking problems or top loader's video output problems, they are referring to original, unmodified hardware. Yes, there are hardware modifications that can be made to circumvent most hardware problems. My guess is, most people looking at Yobo famiclones in flea markets aren't skilled enough or knowledgeable enough to perform those mods. -
The group is "Classic Video Games". PunkOffGirl just posted to the group stating that DP was DDOS'ed offline again, the webhost does not want to host the site any longer, and that DP may be offline for a couple of weeks until all of this gets resolved.

I recently found a few Malibu tokens in one of the machines I recently picked up. The funny thing is, I remember playing the same game at Malibu, so I'm wondering if I didn't just pick up THE machine I used to play as a kid! That's a weird thought!

Only 3? As many have read, I played a game this summer and decided to buy every working Genesis that I found for less than $5. I had to stop myself at a dozen! Maybe after WW3 I will build a hut out of Genesis consoles to live in; until then, I have no idea what to do with them. During my search I picked up a Genesis in the Madden/sports box for $10 and was pretty pleased with that. As others have said, any console in a box for ~$10 is a good deal IMHO.
-
Maybe it means "1 quality" on a scale of 1 to 10.
-
I think it's saying the box (the cardboard part) is number 1 in quality, and after looking at the photo I tend to agree. The printing looks to be very professionally done and the corners have been folded nicely. The cardboard is good stock and the shrinkwrap job is top notch. I'd say that's a quality box if I ever saw one. Now the system INSIDE the box ... that's another story.

NES-on-a-chip vs. real NES hardware
Flack replied to Bill Brasky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Nintendo-on-a-Chip (NOAC) systems aren't 100% accurate or compatible with real hardware. It's possible that the sound and colors on a NOAC may be slightly off on every single game is plays. That being said, it really depends on just how sensitive your eyes and ears are, how familiar you were with the originals, how important 100% accuracy is to you, and whether or not you can live with the differences. Some people will rant and rave about how famiclones aren't 100% accurate. Personally I find they're close enough for me, and the convenience and reliability of the hardware outweighs any slight differences in color or sound. It's a personal preference, and the best way to decide is to try one out with a game you're familiar with and see if the slight differences bother you. -
Yes but be careful because arcade games are very heavy and unless balanced just right they could easily damage computer equipment.

I used to routinely ride my bike to my local neighborhood convenient store to play the games they had there: Joust, Track and Field, and later Shinobi. The furthest I ever rode was about 45 minutes to go play 720. A friend of mine had spent the night and we came up with the idea. I had two bikes: a ten speed stuck in 10th gear, and a dirt bike with a bent sprocket which caused the chain to fall off about every 10th rotation. Between those two piece of crap bikes it took us forever to get there. At one point my friend (who was on the 10 speed) rode up behind a guy weed-eating his yard. The guy swung around and weed-eated (is that a word?) my friend's leg! After getting to the arcade and spending all our money, we called my dad to come pick us and the bikes up in his truck.

According to Mapquest I live 6.07 miles from Cactus Jack's. That place was a big influence on my childhood -- so much, in fact, that my MAME cabinet is named Cactus Flack's. If you are looking for a medium-sized arcade with a mix of old and new (more new than old but what can you do), it's worth a trip out. Last time I was there they had a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga anniversary machine, an original Defender, a Robotron, and a few other classic machines. There are quite a few driving games and quite a few shooting games, and three or four pinball tables. There are also a ton of pool tables.

My launch PS2 sits in standby mode for months at a time. Haven't had a problem yet. As for the old rumor about CD-R's wearing out your laser faster (a rumor most likely started by the people that make consoles!), all I'll say is that if any console on Earth should have worn out by now due to playing CD-R's it would be either my PS2 or my Dreamcast, and neither one have a problem, so um, er, yeah.

Thanks for the pictures and especially the captions -- it's always cool to know just who you're looking at and putting names with faces!
