Very nice!! And you got some good games to start out with. That was the system I grew up with as well as the 2600 back in the late 80's/early 90's. Hope you enjoy it!

From the one pic of the 80's arcade, it looks like they got it right. Any music playing in that area?
No music was played in the arcades in my visit. But in the sanctuary sections which had a 70's themed living room displayed with an Intellivision (Sears Super Video Arcade) system you can play and the 80's themed area with the NES you can play they had 80's music playing.

Today I made my trip nearby to Frisco, TX to check out the much anticipated opening of the National Videogame Museum. It opened for the public yesterday April 2nd. I was so excited to check it out and was anxious. I spent 4 long hours inside. Inside the museum there is a 15 foot structure called "Pixels" in the lobby, a gift shop, the world's largest Pong Console, a monitor telling about the history of every video game console as well as every single one hung up on display, handhelds, gaming stations to play numerous console based games, history of each generation, home computer games, the crash of 1983-1984, and even an authentic 80's style operating arcade to relive 1982 all over again. There is so much cool stuff and interesting things in there to look at. I really had a blast there and will be going back many times. They did an outstanding job with the museum and was truly mindblown. Anybody that is going to be in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, you must go there! Once you are in, you do not want to leave! I took many pictures of the museum. I hope you enjoy it!

I normally use pledge for the top shell and bezel to give the outer shell and even underneath of the bottom shell to give it a good glossy shine. Also for paint markers around the trim of the cart slot bezel I reccommend going to Hobby Lobby to get these. It is made by Tree House Studio.

When will this season end? I want to start up a handheld hsc and don't want the 2 going on at the same time.
I was originally going to go 10 rounds. But if you want to do a handheld one, I'll have the Genesis High Score Club go to 8 Rounds. I will have it end on April 17th which is the last day for Round 8. Let me know if that's ok.

I have come to a decision to extend this round for another week so this will end not this upcoming Saturday Night into Sunday but the following one on April 10th at Midnight. So I can get you guys a chance to play.

Great intro and welcome aboard!! Great to see a young college student (late teens to early 20's) get into and appreciate the Atari 2600. I was born during it's heyday as I am soon to be 35. I grew up with the 2600, NES, Genesis, SNES, and Turbo Grafx 16. Atari always leaves a soft spot in my heart. I enjoy 5200 and 7800 gaming as well. I hope you pick up some other great systems from the late 70s and 80's to your arsenal and you got thousands of others if you have questions or whatsoever. And are pleased to have you aboard!!
By the way. Since you live in New Hampshire, did you ever visit or consider going to Fun Spot? That is perhaps the greatest arcade joint in the world. -
Wow!! I just noticed that I was around 1,000,000 points away from the Twin Galaxies World Record!! I only died three times which is under the 5 maximum, no back warping, and no turtle hopping tricks. If I submit this video that will place me at 2nd place!! I like to try for the record!!

Wow.... Does everybody here dislike Toki Going Ape Spit? We only have 2 and a half days left with just one submitted score!?!? I decided to not play the game but do the bonus game for points. It's Home Run Derby from World Series Baseball '95. My man and this year's Hall of Fame inductee Ken Griffey Jr. bashes 12 home runs!!

This year marks a milestone anniversary as Konami's The Goonies turned 30 a little over a month ago this past February. The Goonies was only originally released for the Famicom. But released in North America only on the arcade machine Vs. Goonies and The NES Playchoice 10 machines. It never had a scheduled NES release except for Goonies 2 which came out the following year in 1987 which is a platformer with RPG elements. This version was a platformer where you control the main character Mikey. He goes through six levels jumping and kicking his way through. Killing mice for bombs to blow safes up for keys, life potion, slingshots, his friends, and other treasures. You must collect three keys to pass a level and if you don't rescue one of your friends while completing the stage then you have to do the level over again in future progress. I find this to be a fun game with great replay value. A total shame it was only released in Japan but there are reproduction carts for it today especially you would think The Goonies is more popular in North America than Japan. I did a gameplay video of the entire game below this post. There are special items and hidden items for bonus points where you have to stand and input the correct code on the controller. Some of your items are.
Earphones- Collect these and the musical notes from one of the singing Fratelli Brothers won't harm you.
Flamesuit- This will prevent damage from the flame traps in later levels.
Raincoat- This will prevent damage from steam, dripping water, and waterfalls.
Helmet- This will prevent any falling projectiles to harm you.
Jumping Shoes- Only used in one section of the game which is in stage 3 where you leap over a large pit to warp to stage 5.
Armor- You will not take damage from bats, bones the skeletons throw, and bullets.

Were you playing on a Repro Cart or the FDS version?
Actually, it was played on the Nintendo Wii from the virtual console.

Here is a playthrough of the second quest. World C is really difficult and I consider it to be the hardest area. It is virtually impossible to clear C-4 as super or fiery Mario.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels) for the Famicom Disk System. I did a playthrough video of the first quest and died a total of 3 times, all dumb mistakes that I made. I find it to be not as hard as most people claim it to be. Mainly cause I have played it for the past 22 years and have got accustomed to the gameplay and level designs.

Kid Icarus is a tough game and chances are a number of people have never seen the final level. With this password, however, you will. Go to the password screen and enter KIDKID ICARUS KIDKID ICARUS. Not only will you get to the final level right away, but you'll also be invincible. Take that, eggplants!

The official sequel to Super Mario Bros. that was released in Japan will be turning 30 this June 3rd as it was released for the Famicom Disk System. As I stated in the Super Mario Bros. 2 to Doki Doki Panic thread that it was not released in North America due to being way too hard and frustrating for players in North America and or Europe. Instead of bricks, mushrooms, koopas, goombas, piranha plants, fire flowers, and Bowser we got shy-guys, snifits, phantos, birdos, cherries, Mousers, and Wart. I did a complete playthrough of the first quest (Worlds 1-9) of The Lost Levels in the bottom of this post. I only died 3 times total as two of them were dumb mistakes I made. But not too bad at all. In the Lost Levels this is what differs between that and the first game.
- This is a one player game only and you can choose between a Mario or Luigi playthrough.
- Mario has the same abilities in the first game, but Luigi runs slightly faster and has higher and longer jumping abilities. But has poor traction as he skids twice the distance as Mario.
- A sound effect is made when skidding.
- Some warp zones take you back a few levels.
- Red Piranha plants come out of a pipe when standing alongside it.
- You only get fireworks for bonus points if the last digit of your coins matches the same number in the last digit of the timer you touched the flagpole. You get a 1-Up and a 6 fireball bonus if you have a double digit number of coins that are divided by 11 (00,11,22,33,44,55,66,77,88,99) and the last coin digit matches the number on the timer when touching the flagpole.
- You get an extra boost in height or distance when you stomp on an enemy.
- Green trampolines shoot you up for a few seconds off the screen.
- You get the remaining time awarded in points when clearing a -4 level.
- You get 100,000 points for the remaining lives after conquering the game.
- Complete Worlds 1-8 without warping to unlock World 9 which is reminiscent to the minus worlds. It continues endlessly until you lose all your lives.
- Poisonous mushrooms reverse what a power up mushroom does.
- Gusty winds blow you forward or back.
- Some minor graphical upgrades. The ground is rockier, clouds have smiley faces, mushrooms replace fences, and the platforms are made of small mushrooms, and the font/lettering above has a shadow next to the text.
- The second quest is composed of Worlds A-D. You have to clear 8-4 at least 8 times to access it which is why there are stars emblazoned in the title screen in the game's logo.
Overall I enjoy playing The Lost Levels. It is not my favorite Mario game but I play it when I am in the mood to play a game with a good challenge. I thought Nintendo did the right move by not releasing this here and waiting 7 years for us to finally play it for the first time. There is some areas of the game that are difficult and want to make you throw the controller in rage but I played it so many times in the past 22 years that I am accustomed to it.
