Anyone get one on launch day? :)

I was 4 years late to the party (family got it in 1981) but I loved that there were well over 100 game variations of COMBAT.  Not a great game but not terrible but ASTEROIDS really caught my attention!

I'll be 43 in October, so I was just a little too young to appreciate the VCS (as it was called when it was new) at the time, but I got the 2600 very early on, circa 1980 or 1981.  Nearly 40 years of entertainment, and I still own a bunch of 2600s today.

  2. "Polycounter Reset!" *crash* "Where did you learn to code?"

  3. Sorry to hear about Drac's passing and am disappointed about the other issues relating to him and to this project and wished things had gone better. I think all of the money raised, went to the shells, which I'd almost be happy with at this point. And I think the rest is coming at Curt's own expense, unless he manages to sell further units and then it might take awhile to break even, if then. I was one of Curt's number-one "shills" , during the first couple of years, helping push things over for the funding for the molds. It seemed bright at first, then things got complicated with Curt's health and other projects and I personally wasn't sure if this project would happen anymore, kind of gave up on it, myself, and phased it out of my mind as a loss. I still want this to happen and am hopeful we are finally reaching final months, if even just for that case. Is this other device, proposed, XM-compatible?
  4. Using JAC's PACMAN-ORIGINAL-INTERMISSION-DEMO.xex hack, I see that after level 256, it cycles back around to the beginning, without crashing. Was always curious, but never asked.
  5. Tix's version looks more like the 1980 movie version, which I think is probably appropriate, given the time-frame of the game.
  6. Noticed that 'Howard the Duck', seems perpetually on sale @ Amazon for $5. Might give in...some day.

I have the Extended Director's Special Edition where that scene with them driving in the truck for 30 minutes is 50 minutes.

  7. Wouldn't scream too much if 64K RAM chips were hard to find and he had to resort to 1MB or some such and set up the addressing to take advantage, somehow.
  8. Never challenge Death to a pillow-fight, unless you're willing to face the Reaper cushions.

  9. https://youtu.be/oLmFwsZsS7U From the video description, from David himself: "This is a mostly unedited video of Lucasfilm and Hughes Training prototype Location Based Entertainment project, Mirage, a multiplayer pod experience. Lucasfilm's skunkworks group, Rebel Arts and Technology (RAT, 1990-1992) was responsible for the exterior and interior industrial design of the pod, as well as the game design (my role), art, Amiga heads-down display system, and sound (both the MIDI based surround sound system and the actual audio). Hughes was responsible for the simulation software, and the actual hardware, including the collumating mirror (so your eyes are focusing 100s of feet away, making the environment feel enormous), 3 video projectors, and installing/configuring the Evans & Sutherland ESIG 2000 image generator. The game we were working on took place in the Star Wars universe, and was called Mission (Vernost was the planet). For people who know my early game, Rescue on Fractalus!, you will recognize elements here... flying fast through craggy canyons, and sucking up "Ceela", a special fluid found only on this planet (instead of rescuing pilots), and transporting it to one of the tankers. All the while, avoiding or engaging the enemy TIE fighters (operated by other players). The project was initiated in 1990. In 1992 Lucasfilm withdrew from the project (and closed down RAT). Soon after, during the 1992 IAAPA in Arlington, TX, people were shuttled to Hughes so they could experience Mirage. Unfortunately, Mirage was ahead of its time... the tech was just too expensive, and over the next three years, Hughes was unable to find any buyers for the 8-pod system. Of course, this level of graphics, with antialiasing, animated textures, fog effects, can easily be done on any of today's GPUs or consoles."
  10. For some reason, I have a revision 2.0, which I grabbed from somewhere around here. Not sure if much different from the release in the first post. Maybe it was meant as a 5200-specific port. I have no way of testing it at the moment. PacManArcadeFinalV2.0.rom
  11. I'm not certain, but I think I remember reading that the NTSC specification had changed slightly, pretty soon after the original A8s came out, to the more standardized (well, the new standard, anyways), one it is now. Meaning those greenish browns might be a side-effect of this. Not certain if adjusting the pot on the bottom can correct for all of this, when using the old Ataris on modern sets/monitors with composite/RF. S-video is its own thing? Might be a partial reason why some favor the older CRTs, from the 70s and before, besides being CRTs with all those nice residual effects and, of course, all of that faux wood-grain.
  12. Getting an IDP.ALEXA.51 warning via my AntiVirus. Depending on who you ask, it could be a false-positive or malware.
  13. I too survived the Great Forum Outage of June 15th, 2019!

We all came out of this changed by the experience.

  14. Interesting how modern perspectives give a new interpretation to older things. Looks like something someone in the community might create today to badge a Internet-Capable Atari computer. Or a brand for an Atari computer without a need for a specific brand. I say we co-opt it for something new.
  15. Meanwhile, in AmicoLand (from an email, I just received) : Hello Intellivision Family! We are very proud to announce that next week at the big E3 video game convention in Los Angeles, the Intellivision® Amico™ will be making its debut behind closed doors! Not only will we have playable machines and controllers but we are also excited to announce that we will be showing off 22 playable games! The reason it will only be seen behind closed doors is because we are still a year and 4 months away from launch and we want to be sure we can take the appropriate time with the appropriate folks to explain our goals. But we will be showing as much as we can as we are so excited about how incredible all of the games are turning out! Our commitment to bring family & friends of all skill levels back together in a room to play video games again is getting closer and closer each and every day. We are taking a 4-pronged approach to our launch library. These 4 categories will all be represented at E3. Some people believe we are only a "retro" machine...to be clear, this isn't the case. And although classic games do represent a segment of our approach, they are equal to all the others. Here is a breakdown... 25% Classic/Retro - Re-imagined and upgraded favorites (including graphics, audio, modes and of course local Co-Op & Versus modes!) 25% Original IP's - Brand new games that no one has ever experienced and that shows off the fact that Amico has both a touch screen and tactile controls in a multiplayer environment. 25% Sports/Recreation - Not only the sports everyone would expect, but also a lot of casual and recreational sports like bowling, shuffleboard, pool, darts, fishing, etc. 25% Board/Dice/Card/Word/Puzzle Games - Something that most non-hardcore gamers will feel comfortable with and can play with their family & friends. Whether you're a hardcore gamer, retro gamer, casual gamer or never played a game in your life... there really is something for everyone AND most games will be enjoyed by all skill levels having the opportunity to play together via our Karma Gaming Engine™ (referred to in our launch trailer last year as "Equal Opportunity Gaming"). Remember that ALL of the games are 100% EXCLUSIVE for Amico, created by some of the very best designers, producers and developers in the world. Throughout the rest of this year we'll be releasing more information about the teams and the products they are working on. We are also happy to announce that we have opened a European office as well as an office in Dubai in the UAE! More info coming soon about the amazing folks we have running those offices. Incredible top industry veterans. Recently we added up all of the video game industry experience that just our top executive and internal creative team has and it added up to over 600 years! Here is more exciting news: Next week we will also be showing off 5 different color combinations for the console! There may be more on launch, but you'll get a sneak peak at the 5 main ones we are working on. We can't wait to share more information with you. Thank you for your continued support and we're really looking forward to sharing some of the amazing hard work that over 300 people around the world and around the clock have been striving to achieve for E3. Tommy Tallarico CEO/President Intellivision Entertainment
  16. On a side note, anyone else get the Razer/OUYA email, announcing close-down of services on 6-25-2019? "OUYA and Razer Forge TV Services Shutdown. Dear, Developer. We would like to inform you that the Forge TV Games Store and OUYA service will cease operations on 6-25-2019. This email serves as notice of termination of the Marketplace Agreement, in accordance with Section 9 of the agreement, with effect on 6-25-2019. Thank you for the support which you have extended us these past years. It has been a privilege to have worked with you and to have had you as part of our community. Best Regards, The Razer Team"
  17. I disrespectfully agree with those who opine that this thread both serves as entertainment and elucidation on the current state of Atari. Disrespectfully. Oh, darn, Uhh.
  18. Retrobrighting with just plain Sunlight? :

  19. So counterintuitive that is must have a certain truth: https://youtu.be/8P1OVj0IcqY
  20. AtariAge - we just did a thing, didn't we? Anyways, back up!

  21. That was quick. Got it in the mail, today, cardboard box within a bag, internal contents safely wedged in paper. Noticed it was unbagged (is this typical?) and there was a bit of schmutz on the bottom of the device. Lettering isn't as crisp as I might expect, but clean and legible. Could just be the effects of age.Not certain, but maybe if were in a bag prior, there was some reaction between the rubber feet and that situation, causing the smudging.. NOS? Don't know, but unscratched and the key action seems well. It was the last in stock, so may have been the least ideal. Anyways, it's very nice condition, otherwise.
  22. EDIT(ed) that for you. Sorry, I couldn't help it. Wood grain bongs. Sort of like a pipe - well, it is a pipe. Anyways...
  23. I ordered the last one shown in stock. *guilty look*
