But you would still have to ask,"How to tell if a 2600 game is truly CIB?" There are label variations that go with specific box and manual variations. This. This is exactly why I still grudgingly buy sealed. Mostly because I can hold a seller accountable if the variant is in question. That and I get to enjoy that new 80s smell.

I suggest enjoying what you've got until you have some cash of your own. Then you can buy up all the antique electronics you can fit into your living space until you start to feel choked by their steadily increasing real estate in your surroundings. That's what I did anyway.

Thanks for the reply, Mr SQL. I think it's not a moral issue, since you're right and as others have pointed out there's almost no way to get the money into the hands of the responsible programmers. Not that I'm above trying. I think a sentimental gesture can often be very convincing. My hangup (and it is mine specifically, I should emphasize) has more to do with the authenticity of the experience, I think? If I'm flying between ROMs in an emulator for instance there's less incentive for me to play any one game for a significant period of time because I know I don't have to get up, take out the cart and insert another to play a new game. The same goes for whether I paid for the game and often how much I paid for it. I've noted that I'm much more patient with games that cost me money because I want to get my money's worth. And through that patience I've often found games I've enjoyed that had I not been patient enough to unearth their value I would not have enjoyed. And I know these arguments are trifles in the minds of others, which is fine. Clearly I've given the wrong idea to many here that I'm out to proselytize for my way of playing. I'm not. And I clearly put my opinions out there in the wrong way and in the wrong places. In a way the convenience of flashcarts and ROMs changes the retrogaming experience in a way that for me feels hostile to the genuine experience. Again, the genuine experience as I alone like to imagine it.

I've asked the mods to intervene but no reply yet. Anyway some of these guys just follow me from thread to thread flaming me. They seem to enjoy it.

People often get excited when I tell them I have an Atari and say how much they'd like one for themselves. I've given away games as a token of encouragement to take up the hobby. You'd be surprised how many people want to get into retrogaming but don't know how to start.

Atlantis technically has an ending. When you lose it shows the survivors of Atlantis leaving in the Cosmic Ark, which returns in the game Cosmic Ark.

Are you asking if we are worried that the government may arrest us for Atari ROMs? Nope. But I do think it's kind of disingenuous to call yourself a retrogamer when you're only or almost only playing stolen games via flash cart. Not very much respect for your own hobby if you ask me. But it's very clear the original hardware/software argument is wholly unwelcome on this forum. But that's fine. I've met lots of nice folks here and on the irc channel. I'm not going anywhere.

Yeah. Mind the personal attacks. That's definitely not ok on any forum including this one. You don't get to attack people just because they disagree with you. Judging by how you speak to people I'd say you're the one who needs to figure a few things out. It's amazing the response I've gotten here.
