  1. I have a MySQL database setup on my Linux webserver to keep track of my collection. I use php to display the info. Only problem is that I haven't bothered to put in complete lists of games. So I only know what I have, and rely on pen and paper lists to find what I don't have.
  2. Although that would be cool. You have to look at what lead up to the great video game crash. Atari was releasing crap. At that time exec's at Atari had the ideology that they could sell anything. On some games, Ms. Pac-Man was one I think, they even produced more cartridges than they had consoles sold! Atari started to suck and thats why the market crashed. If Atari had made better decisions, they would still be around today, not just a logo to slap onto games made by other people.
  3. I'd have to agree with everyone else that there probably isn't a market. I've had http://www.consoleculture.com for a while now and haven't really gotten much traffic and no sales.(it's a small pet project during my senior year of college, and thus gets worked on very infrequently). I also think that a lot of people who collect also know at leat a little html, or are willing to learn so again, slightly out of luck. Your design is good though, I like it.
  4. I was up last night trying to think of all the systems that came out with a "mini" version. I thought it might be cool to have a collection of all the small versions of a system, but don't know if I have all of them, Here's what I have: 2600 jr, Genesis 3 (but I'll use my CDX for that!), PS1, supernes 2, and a Master system 2. Of course there is the top loading NES, but I don't have one quite yet :-) And of course there are different versions of handhelds, like gameboy pocket, and the SP, and Lynx 2, but I am trying to keep to systems, not handhelds. Anyone else have a "mini" system I don't know about? I'd love to see pics!
  5. I've got one, but I think I'm gonna hold on to it. Sorry....
  6. I have every Genesis model that came out, save the JVC ones, and was wondering if the Genesis 3 was the hardest to find of the 3 models. Of course the CDX and Nomad are harder to find (I have those too), but was just curious about the rarity of the 3 models that came out. Where I am, the genesis 2 seems to be very common.
  7. Yes. I have 2 of them. They are OK, but you must stay close to the reciever and you must make sure the transmitter is pointing at the reciever the whole time. I got frustrated when I got into a game and moved slightly, then it would stop working... It's a cool find though!
  8. Just a few hours ago, I picked up an ATARI Portfolio (handheld computer) with the serial expansion, memory expansion, parallel expansion and a 64K card all for the low low price of $10! One of my best finds ever!
  9. Well, I'm glad I bought it, B & C Computer Visions looks a bit overpriced to me. I got the Portfolio for $10! Not only that it came with the memory expander, serial interface, parallel interface, and a 64K card! If I bought that from B+C it would be $350.00, not a bad deal for me :-) Here's a pic of the goods...
  10. I've found "goodwill hunting" to be the best. The key I've found is to go during the weekdays, everyone cleans the stores out here on the weekends, and I've made all my best finds when I went on weekdays. Pawn shops are the best for finding rare games for a great price because they don't know what they have, but everything else is usually overpriced (I saw a PS1 selling for $85 without even all the hookups!).
  11. The Genesis is my favorite system. My two favorite games are Herzog Zwei, and Warsong; 2 totally awesome strategy games. There’s also a ton of action and a huge list of sports games if that’s what you’re into. The Genesis was marketed as the more adult system (vs. the SuperNES) and I really think that's true, a lot of their games have good depth to them.
  12. I've heard that companies, including nintendo, would warn you to not use alcohol because it would damage carts. They would then sell cleaning solution that was alcohol based. They just wanted to make a buck. The alcohol you buy at the local drug store is not a strong enough solvent to ruin PCB, or the metal pins. I've used alcohol on every single one of my carts (about 2,000 or so) and haven't had one go bad yet. Just don't plug it in while it's dripping wet, wait till it's dry. I don't know excatly what getting you NES re-chipped means, but if a lot of games aren't working on your NES, I'd look at the socket on your NES and make sure it's cleaned out.
  13. I expected more... but you can only fit so much into an hour long show. The beginning was cool though, but they left a ton out, and ended in like 1990 without mention of Sega or anyone else but nintendo... Does anyone know of any other good video documentaries on console gaming?
  14. My girlfriend loves the Castlevania series, as well as Mario Party (all of them) Right now she's additcted to playing Neverwinter Nights and War of Conquest on the Computer. Now that she isn't taking as many credit hours as I am in school she plays more than I do! She is also a huge fan of Warsong for Genesis, one of my all time favorite games!
