I don't have an Inty 2 but it should be possible to connect a simple 'thumb push button' in place of, or in parallel with, one of the controllers which would give your little 'un his own fire button. I did a similar thing years back to enable my own (then little) boy to join in my C64 gaming exploits. (The Intellivision had been packed away by then).

y-bot, sorry to say that the KC is no good and must be disposed of in an eco-friendly way. I will do that for you at no cost and will even pay for the postage to send it to me. Now on a more serious note, wtg on getting some life out of it! You have a challenge there, so well done so far.... I can't help, but thanks for sharing your experience and pics....it will be interesting to see how you progress, so keep posting! I'm sure that, as you say, the chip that fits in the burnt socket has been replaced...any component causing that sort of damage would have blown a hole in itself.

Makes sense. Plus, if the unit had the same socket worldwide, someone could (and would) inadvertently connect a US model to a higher voltage supply. Yep and if we just had a hole we would insist on a different shape to everyone else's! Oh...we all thought yours were squashed horizontally

That's a really nice set up DZ congrats to you! Real purdy :-). Don't you love how Mattel decided that 'us over here' deserved a nice neat power lead socket in the side of the unit instead of just a hole where the wire comes through?

Jason you should be ok dunking those membranes into soap and water and carefully wiping them clean...I've done a few that way. Obviously use something that doesn't leave a film behind. I just have to get them nice and clean for peace of mind. As mentioned before, just take care not to create problems by folding back too much. If they can't stand a good clean they are probably on their last legs anyway!

A cry for help but no answers yet so I'll let you know we aren't ignoring you Akito! Firstly let me say that I have no experience of Inty 2 so I'm definitely not the best person to give advice! Having said that, someone has to give you encouragement so here goes.... I'm sure you know that if things are as you say, some serious damage may have occurred to sensitive components in your unit. As you say you can't be sure what actually happened, make sure first that it isn't something more trivial...such as a dirty cartridge slot which has chosen this moment to play up. Otherwise: I don't know how much experience you have, but you will need some diagnostic tools and skills, plus some soldering/desoldering skills to even attempt to carry out a repair. As a first check it would be necessary to test the system voltages at the proper test points. You can find some info here: http://console5.com/wiki/Intellivision_II#Schematics Having done that, if you followed the troubleshooting procedure shown in the Service Manual you would probably need to replace hard-to-find components. And I imagine that the ICs are mainly soldered to the board...so you won't have a 'plug in and try' option. My advice to you if the above looks at all daunting would be to pick up a cheap, externally crappy Inty2, remove it's innards, and fit them to your console. Then put the whole episode down to experience.

I would say this is not a fault, EvilDoc. More often than not you will have to press reset after power up to get the title screen to display.....that's been my experience with Inty 1s anyway. I don't know about later versions though. More a design shortcoming than a fault....remember it *is* from the late 70s/early 80s.

The way you describe this, I would go for a faulty IC. Re-seating the ICs was a good start.....you have little to lose by cutting through the 'glue' and re-seating the remaining ones. If you're careful you can leave the heat sinks attached to the IC, just break the bond between the IC and the board/socket. I had a similar problem....mine needed a replacement CPU. Can anyone else chip in here?

I can't buy it, it's sealed! The first thing I'd do is rip it open and plug it into my Master Component; and then somewhere, some collector will cry. Don't admit you opened it....then everyone is happy. What's the opinion on the value of this thing?

Wiggle your cable around and push and pull at the connectors on each end to see if you can replicate the fault....if so it should narrow it down.

As is the norm on this forum, some really interesting posts and great discussion from well informed members...thanks folks! My own thoughts re the controller would be to attempt to mod an original as a sort of half-way house. The disc could be replaced with a new part with a small 'thumbstick' attached. Some thought would have to be given to limiting the amount of force which could be applied to the stick to prevent levering the controller apart...perhaps a sprung stem. A more robust pivot for the bottom of the stem would be desirable too. As for the side switches, though there's limited room, it should be possible to squeeze in tactile switches.....perhaps.... As a plus the controller would still fit into the console...and the console box (at least on the original console). I've no plans to try it though....I can't cos Ive already declared that I like the originals!

This thread gives me the chance to ask a question.......... Is it only me that actually *likes* the Intellivision controllers? I can see it would be an interesting exercise to interface wth a different controller, but the Inty handset is part of the appeal IMHO. Back in the day when the Intellivision was introduced they seemed so innovative. Plus, they were different...they controlled sixteen directions and had keypads too! OK, not everyone is going to prefer them, but I remember being disappointed back then reading reviews where the reviewer would slag off the controllers. Personally I wouldn't dream of using anything other than the real thing. Having said all that, I don't have any experience of the newer Homebrew games, so would you say that some of those are more suited to, say, a joystick?

Plunk I'm taking a guess that you have a PAL unit as you wrote 'colour' and not 'color'. If so, you should find that there are a couple of variable resistors on the daughter board inside the Inty which when tweaked will alter the display colours. If the unit had been stored for a long while it could be the contact has become iffy. There should of course be a proper way to set these up but it won't do any harm to adjust them. Try to mark their original positions so you can get back to 'as was'. Not very scientific but meh....worth a try before you delve deeper. Perhaps someone else can advise on NTSC units...any adjustments on those?

My own experience was that a good picture with this mod was not obtainable without the cable sheath connected to 0v.

Are you using shielded video cable (75 Ohm) with the shield connected to 0v into and out of the mod?
