    You need to take off the Atari fanboy hat. The Lynx was not even designed by Atari it was originally designed by EPYX. What makes you think that ATARI (which is virtually NOT the same company from the glory days your reminiscing about) would not fail yet again against the competition? Look, you're preaching to the choir here, a community of huge Atari fans who would love nothing more than to see Atari rise in the console market like a Phoenix from the ashes but the difference is we are not investing in pipe dreams and accepting the reality for what it is. Atari as you knew it is long gone and the Atari that exists today is in no position bring your fantasies to life no more than (and probably less) than SEGA could. Please you need to stop being blinded by your love and loyalty and accept reality. :rolling:

    Nothing wrong with dreaming a little dream today.....I would gladly throw my Ps3 and Xbox 360 in the dumpster for a new Atari brand console........but that's just me, love it or hate it.....:(

     

    P.S, DID YOU JUST CALL ME A FANBOY???? I'm not a fanboy, I'm an ATARI FAN MAN.....MAN!

    Atari made brand new ground breaking technology when the Lynx came out and the same with the Jaguar...the biggest problem was there marketing and advertising.........The Lynx(technology wise) was better than any other handheld from 1989 all the way until the Gameboy Advance came out in the late 90s...No other handheld could compare and that was groundbreaking technology..Bad marketing lead to most people not even knowing it existed......Same with the Jaguar,, which was as good as Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1, and it came out years before those 2 consoles....Bad marketing and lack of knowledge from consumers lead to its demise as well.....So as far as Atari not being groundbreaking technology in there creations is just B.S......If a new console with the Atari brand came out and had some kind of new technology that no other console had, and if it was marketed and available correctly, I'm sure it would have sucess....purhaps a Virtual Reality type gaming experience would be interesting.....Just my opinion, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe so..................Someone out there invest in Atari Brand products and market it properly....Please.....I WANT ATARI......MAINLY BECAUSE THE ATARI LOGO LOOKS COOL AND IS BETTER THAN ALL OTHER CONSOLE BRAND LOGOS......ITS FRIGGINN COOL GOSH DARN IT...............................................If Atari could come out would some kind of groundbreaking technology and market it properly with the right people and company's investing into it, I believe it could be done..........

    Atari is not Atari anymore: it is a brand.

     

    Talk with your own money and sweat. Buy a FireBee. Develop a Jaguar game.

    I've just sweated and consulted with my money...It told me that all of us members at atariage.com should pitch in all of our money and buy the Atari brand.........Then as we put all of our heads together, we can build this new console and put it on the market our dam selves.........YES WE CAN.........

    So your saying that if Atari (by some miricle from God himself) brought out a brand new console that's better than Ps3 and xbox360, that nobody on Earth would but into it? Id bet everyone in this forum would buy it...Just saying.......I know there's probably a likelyhood of less than 1 % chance that Atari ever comes back in such a major way, but 1 % chance means there a chance........even if its only 1 % chance.....I guess....:(

    I didn't write the petition, but I agree with the writer of it 100%.....I just stumbled upon it while browsing the internet.........I think its long long long overdue and Atari should attempt to regain dominence in the video game market...who better than the brand that started it all???........I'M ALL FOR AN ATARI COMBACK, AND THE NEW CONSOLE SHOULD BE COMPATITBLE FOR ALL its old system games as well just as the writer of the petition suggests........I don't care if it would require digging up the bones of Jack Tremiel if that's what it would take to get Atari going once more........:)

    I got a 7800 for Christmas 1986. My 2600 had died a bit before and I still had several dozen 2600 cartridges so the backwards compatibility was actually a big bonus there. They also had blitzed all the cartoons with those 7800 commercials that made it look very cool.. so Atari was on my christmas list. At this point I dont think Nintendo was really on the Radar for me. I know I was a bit dissapointed by its port of Kung Fu Master, mainly because it was called Kung Fu (dropping the 'master' part.. probably something to do with Data East's license). Don't ask why that bothered me so much, but it did.. I was only 10 what can I say. Of course the NES version was actually really good even if the sprites looked quite a bit different than the arcade but I wouldn't find that out until i played it more later.

     

    The next year would be big though. Nintendo really put on the heat in '87. So the next Christmas I asked for a NES and that was that. The 7800 got put in a box. I did still buy the odd 7800 game on clearance and I remember actually buying a few 2600 games later on just to see how they managed to port games like Ghostbusters or California Games to the 2600.

     

    Anyway back on topic.. the 7800 desperately needed new games. While the updated ports were OK I think most everyone was over Pac-Man et al by 1986. Don't get me wrong, i played the hell out of Joust and Galaga.. but i had more fun with games like Jordan vs. Bird or Food Fight simply because I wasn't familiar with them. There were plenty of games they could have ported.. many of the games making the rounds on the computers at the time could have been shoe horned in. They tried that with Impossible Mission etc, but there were plenty more. But of course by this time Atari was in trouble. Nintendo quickly took over and nobody was going to waste the time on the 7800 especially with the iron fisted licensing agreements Nintendo was forcing on everyone. Had the 7800 launched in 1984 as intended it might have had more of a chance.

    On a serious note, ShawnSr is an okay guy...I made this thread just to get his attention and it worked....He has contacted another member of this forum to make right with me, as he always stands by his products...No offense intended...Me and Shawn are cool.....I hope his banning is uplifted soon because he has been a dedicated member of this website for more than a decade......Peace be with Shawn...:)

    It's a little hard to when you don't own the 7800. GCC's contract was with Warner Communications, and they were still owed all the development costs for the MARIA chip and launch titles. He spent from August '84 through May '85 negotiating with Warner and GCC for the costs of development, then another two months on the launch titles. By the end of the Summer he was looking to relaunch the 7800 BEFORE THE NES.

     

    To that end he lured away Mike Katz from Epyx in September to head up the new Entertainment Electronics division. Mike started up the 7800 program again in early October.

    I hear you....you guys probably have more insight on this subject than me I'm sure...thanks for educating me on this subject...I'm convinced that Jack Tremiel did what he could to keep Atari alive.........But there is just 1 idea I havnt layed down...What if someone else bought Atari?? Is it slightly possible that someone else could of done better? Just sayin..........Sorry, I thought id throw that question out there....:) Regardless how the 7800 came out, I still love the 7800 and arcade ports more than any console, for some reason and I don't know why...I even like the weird sound effects, LoL...its a cute machine. :) R.I.P Jack Tremiel, sincerely mean that..

    That's easy to say when you aren't sitting in the ruins of a company with millions up uncollectible accounts receivable, contractual messes and being crushed under the weigh of an enormous debt.

     

    One of those contractual messes was the 7800.

    So basically, Old Jack was sort of like Barrack Obamma stuck in Bushes mess.....Hmmm, I see.....I think I understand now.....Well a by golly gee wiz.........................................:)
