  1. Thanks to everyone for your great response so far, I have some updates:

     

    There is a separate post for the demo file but just in case you didnt see that ill post it here now. This version has some tweaks which were implemented directly as a response to feedback so thanks for that. The 'lives' power up sound has been made 'jucier', the crash animation is now in colour so that it can be seen at night and if you fancy a hard mode you can now switch the right difficulty to ' A' and from day three its harder.

     

    have just been speaking to Dan Tearle the artist who is doing the cartridge and cover work and he says that he may sell off the original piece via his site or even consider prints if anybody would like one, i appreciate you all need to see the finished article first but believe me Dan's work is incredible.

Some of the trash is just there as scenery, you can only aim for any of the objects within the street, Theloon will correct me on this but i think the graphic change you speak of is due to the speed decrease we had to make as the initial jump from day one to two was too severe but due to the increments available and the rate at which the sprites move within that time frame is what i think you are noticing. believe me we spent a lot of time play testing it, if it was faster and as a result more fluid like it was it would of been too unplayable and people woul;d not of enjoyed the experience. the game breaks you in as with respect of speed, let me know how you fare on days three and upwards it is fast and pretty tough.


  3. It is your game. I can only offer my opinion and suggestions.

     

    Design: The lives should be trucks, not cans. Avoid cans?!?

    Design: To call it Super Trash Truck, and then have to avoid trash cans is not right.

    Design: Trash piles look like a heart-shaped leaf. Super Leaf Sweeper?

    Design: Can't see crash when road is black. Maybe an orange color fiery crash?

    Design: The sound for a gas can should be a good power up sound, not a low buzz bad sound.

     

    Note: Phosphor off (which I usually keep off) makes things clearer. I can see the gas can now.

    Note: Phosphor effect on is a bad thing in this game.

    Note: It looks better in PAL60, but it is not just a switch flip in Stella. I have to reload ROM or restart Stella.

     

    Gameplay: Nothing wrong here. I like the changing road widths. I like the objects when they start moving down along with side to side.

    Note: There are many ways to free ROM space without sacrificing anything.

    Thanks for your suggestions, if a truck icon for the lives is possible then yes i agree that would be better, No trash truck on the planet ever collected trash cans they collect the contents of trash cans and that content has spilled out into the streets here in this game and if you were driving a trash truck you would be avoiding trash cans not driving into them. The piles of trash were designed as they are as 'theloon' was working off of the artwork that i had made up for the arcade cabinet (see in initial post ) so that when the game is running in the cabinet i am going to make the game would fit as closely to that as possible, i personally dont think it looks anything like a leaf. I agree that a different coloured crash at night would be good again if that is possible, and i also agree that a jucier power up sound would also work.

     

    The game is obviously designed to operate primarily on actual hardware and the switching of the settings is purely related to that, the fact that it is harder to do so on an emulator was not a considered factor nor do i see why it would be.

The truck is definitely RED, the piles of Trash are yellow that you collect, We are collecting the trash that has spilled out not the trash cans which are blue and to be avoided. as far as all the extras you mentioned yes in a perfect world that would be good but the game space is maxed out and before you know it if you start to adfd all those things that exist in games that already exist then you are simply copying something else and that isnt my plan.

     

    But i do appreciate the feedback and hope you are enjoying it.


  5. Hi guys thank you for all the great interest you have shown so far in SUPER TRASH TRUCK , Here as promised is the playable DEMO remember the settings are:

     

    NTSC any difficulty switch set to 'A'

     

    PAL60 both difficulty switches set to 'B'

     

    I hope you enjoy the game as much as me and 'The Loon' do please give feedback once you have played it for an hour or two believe me it is addictive.

     

    Please let me know what scores you guys are getting and to which 'DAY'

  6. I'm thinking the gameplay might lend itself to paddle controls. Kinda looks like "Le Mans" which had paddle controls. Was paddle control a consideration? Could it be added as a secondary control scheme?

    No it wouldn't work here as it is vital to be able to power forward to escape some hazards as you will find out in the demo. Think of this as an entirely new game not what it reminds you of. I do have another idea for a game that could very well utilise the paddle control system.

    The once idyllic streets of Video City are overflowing with Trash, The Mayor can no longer afford the extortion rackets and the streets are filled.

    Johnny Badbody, one time boss of Badbody Cleaning and your 2000hp Super Trash Truck to clean up these filthy streets.

     

    I am very pleased to showcase to you my first game Super Trash truck, The game was designed by me but brought to life by the talents of forum member 'The Loon' who recreated my vision perfectly with pretty much no compromise and was a pleasure to work with.

     

    Super Trash Truck is an arcade style game and when i designed it i envisioned something that reflected the 81' era of classic games, easy to play hard to master.

     

    The game play mechanic is simple drive through the streets and collect the piles of Trash, Avoid all obstacles and collect Fuel cans for extra lives.

    Each level is a 'Day' in video city and as such it cycles from day to night continually. Upon beginning a new day the game will then speed up making all the hazards harder to avoid.

     

    Many of you will know that i design and build custom arcade machines and this is my intention for Super Trash Truck, I am going to create a custom cabinet specifically for this game.

     

    The truck can be moved in all directions and pressing up gives a burst of speed which can be vital for dodging hazards of which there are plenty including Toxic Waste Drums, Trash Cans, Dumpsters, Cars and more.

     

    The game is very close to being finished and i will post a file for you all to try out soon, The game will have a full boxed release with the cartridge and box artwork being created by the amazing talents of video game artist Dan Tearle, I have mocked the design but Dan is going to do his own special take on that. he will also be creating some artwork for the arcade cabinet.

     

    Once the game is finished if you wish to purchase just a cartridge then you can do so by contacting 'The Loon' on here. Details about the boxed release i will bring you once that is further along and yes it will be proper Atari style cardboard boxes with manual.

     

    The game caters for both PAL60 and NTSC and that can be toggled via the difficulty switches so one cart does all.

  8. I love that you love it but me personally found it unplayable and damn it i have tried, the acceleration against handling is all wrong and just causes you to crawl if you are to stay on track, it feels like it a few months away from being finished to me.

     

    I will try again tonight out of curiosity.


  9. Marc is the man and one of the two greatest box makers (CPUWIZ being the other one).

     

    A good part of my boxed collection is from Marc. I especially like when he also publishes a manual with the box.

     

    Don't forget all the repros he does for unreleased games. He is not just a box maker.

    Please do , your collection makes me jealous but also content that someone has that complete a collection, i often browse the AA shop wishing on certain carts but you appear to have the shop in full glorious boxes, you should definitely depict the whole lot more closely i for one would love to see it and i know more would too. Damn i want a collection like that now :), love the box protectors too
