  1. Stun runner is a massively good call dude, I have been playing this on my arcade a fair bit recently, Not sure how well it would translate but its a great idea for sure ;)

  2.

To be honest I didn't really think about it. I just wanted to get a working game out first, because you have to alter the code, albeit just the color info for PAL60. Then once there seemed to be a clamor for it, I decided to go ahead and make one.

    The simple facts:

18% of all ATARI fans are in the U.K

13.86% of all Mario fans are in the U.K

Put in on a cart and we shall buy it :)

  3. I just stumbled over this on youtube last night and rushed here to see what developments have been made, This is an incredible achievement and i definitely wish to buy a cartridge version of this.....Excellent work

  4. This is awesome, kevin your work blows me away, But in my opinion you should of gone with the original wwe logo as that obviously would of been in when this game was made and its just way cooler....Maybe wcw even, Excellent work though

  5. Oh really?? That sucks, So why does it only become affected by certain games then?? and why do some run o.k, ball blazer for instance is crystal clear no issues whatsoever as is food fight and galaga

Im gonna have to see about getting a friend to do an s-video mod for me in this case.

    Thanks

  6. Hi guys

I know something like this has been covered before but as nobody posted any pics im not sure if my issues are the same and also its different depending on what games i play.

Some games have almost like a graphical glitch on the left hand side of the screen and yet other titles namely Choplifter, Fatal run play without any screen glitch but are very fuzzy, Its nothing to do with tv type or tuning as i have tested it across four different crt's, The other thing is that when i play 2600 games on this 7800 they are perfect absolutely crystal clear.

When i initially purchased Ms.Pac man as this was the first time i saw this glitch i wondered whether i had been sold an NTSC copy now i dont know if it would even run but i had read that some NTSC games will run but with graphical issues, the other game i have heard this mentioned about is centipede and that was the second game i noticed it on.

I had pondered just buying another 7800 but thought somebody might know what this problem is, I have stripped the machine and cleaned the rf connection and it looks like new, The console itself is mint but i have also cleaned the cartridge slot and all the offending cartridges but with no change, I am awaiting delivery of a signal booster to see if that helps.

Ill include screen shots showing the glitch and a 2600 game with no issues at all.

    Thanks in advance

  7. The only thing about Fatal Run that ever bothered me was the car. Otherwise, I think it's a pretty good game and if there's source code, I suppose the engine could be used for some other great games. Road Rash anyone?

There's a problem with just hacking the rom though. It seems that if you change anything in the game, it will crash after the title screen. I posted about this a couple years ago when I tried changing the player's car sprite. There are a few 7800 games like this. Midnight Mutants is another one. If you change just one byte, it won't load. (and no, the problem isn't that I didn't sign the binary).

Ahh thanks kevin well i guess that gives me all my answers and puts this vision to bed, too bad as i thought it could of been nice, thanks for clearing that up.

  8. Well i actually think you would find the game a lot more fun if the game play felt better and by giving this a really good engine note and increasing the feeling of speed via roadside objects this could be achieved, As i said remove all the fighting mechanics apart from the body damage, leave all the body, tyres , fuel etc still purchasable in the shop, make the other cars controllable and as for the interlude part looking out of the window i actually enjoy it and if you don't you can just hit fire as you don't have to wait for it to run its course.

i really think this could be cool, the basic game engine works well and plays smoothly

  9. A couple of weeks ago it was being discussed on here about possible racing games that could be converted to the 7800 possibly to utilise the new XM, Well iv'e been playing quite a bit of Fatal run lately and i wondered could this game not be hacked into a really good racer? Now i have no programming knowledge so what im saying may not be possible but from an observation point it appears to have all the ingredients.

The dash display on the bottom of the screen is excellent and far exceeds the likes of rad racer on the NES, Two of the enemy vehicles are a Ferrari testarossa and a Porsche 911 with another resembling a Jaguar xj220, I'm assuming that you could mod these sprites to be the controllable cars?

The game already has a good feel of speed but with a few added road side details, trees, Signs this could be greatly improved, The engine note isn't great but it isn't bad obviously the extra xm power could put something great into place.

Remove the weapons side of the game but keep the mid race upgrades for all the normal items , tyres, engine etc.

The in-between level looking out the car window but is awesome and should remain but just maybe remove the deceased headstones and add more waving people.

Well that's pretty much it, As i said i have no programming knowledge so i have no idea how hard this is or if its even possible but it just seemed to me that this has a lot of good ingredients and a great starting base for a hack, It was the detail on the Ferrari testarossa sprite that made me think......Out Run!

Well it would be awesome if one of the talented programmers here took this on or at least i think so.

  10. Does anybody have the original donkey kong font, Some nice person on here did offer it to me once before but i cannot find the thread point where this was, i am currently re-designing some custom cases and would be very grateful if anybody has it.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Hey Bee

I know you've been busy with other projects just wondered if you knew when you might pick this up again, I definitely wish to buy a copy as will many others and this will be another awesome entry to the xm catalogue, tempest is an awesome game.......And if any star wars versions were possible i would also definitely join that party

We are blessed to have so many great people involved in this atari family

  12. I'm with Watermelon myself, and I also waited for months for my Oh Mummy Genesis, so I understand your feeling.

But, I have to defend them a bit: While the manufacturing quality was very poor, the price was very low as well. They probably took the cheapest offer from China to make the game as affordable as possible; we at WM dealt with Chinese businesses as well, and sadly if you are not there in person to step on their feet they will often try to cheat you. It's just a mentality thing of how business works there, when you don't check the quality in every step of production it's your own fault as far as many Chinese manufacturers are concerned.

1985alternativo are just hobby devs; for Pier Solar one of us quit his job and lived in China for a year to oversee production. The average hobbyist can't do that.

Also, for the long wait partially people like that eBay seller you mention (I know him, he actually ordered 50) are to blame. The team made this expecting a few dozen games sold, from fans for fans, direct sales. They had not thought of putting a max quantity per buyer. And then shops like this appeared and ordered huge amounts of copies to make a profit. 1985alternativo was just overwhelmed and could barely cope with the higher than expected demand. Add to that a delay that was caused by some MD models not playing the game.

What's inexcusable is the lack of information and not replying to mails.

I hope they have learned from the botched Oh Mummy release. I already told them they should contact WM, we have molds to produce high quality carts and cases; if the production run is high enough I'm sure we could work something out.

So... I think they deserve a second chance. They made some big mistakes, but they meant well.

Dude Firstly let me just give you a virtual handshake, Anybody on the watermelon team is cool as hell with me, I am paid up and awaiting the megadrive beat em up rpg elements awesome game :)

I do agree with many of the points you have raised and i guess we should all be grateful for anybody who is prepared to create new games for our beloved systems.........But why don't alternativo just step it up as far as price goes, people will pay more if they know the product is good, Impressions last both good and bad and i agree they may not of been entirely to blame but after the eight month wait i was pretty pissed off.

Anyways I hope that in future water melon develop a megadrive shooter that would be absolutely fantastic.

    keep up your excellent work
