  1. i suck at raiders too, But in response to this thread i always thought the e.t sprites and start up screen were impressive the agents are nicely drawn and animated also, there weren't many other games that had sprites drawn as well at the time, I never played it back then as i never owned an atari back then, In the u.k they were crazy expensive i only knew one kid who owned one, But now years on playing it i find it totally o.k. as others have said before there are far worse games than this.

  2. This is awesome news...........But my experience with Alternitavo like many others is less than good, i bought a copy of the last game 'OH Mummy' whilst i was super excited to get a new megadrive game the execution of both the product and the customer dealing is very poor, After paying for my game i waited just short of six months to receive it and this wasn't from and pre made state this was once it was announced finished and in stock, Mountains of unanswered e mails and when i received it the case box was ripped all down the back and the cartridge label was literally stuck on at an angle and flapping off, I contacted a german game store that i knew bought a box of 30 games they told me every single game they received was the same with some defect or other, not one single game was presentable.

Whilst i think its amazing that people take the time to do this if your going to bother then please do it correctly like water melon.

  3. I actually think that a far better game to port over would be the arcade title ' Crazy Rally ' its fast and fun it requires two button control one for high and low gear its graphically fairly basic and is in a similar vein to both turbo and monaco gp but much better than both, its a top down old school arcade racer at its best, i still enjoy playing it to this day on my home arcade.

A port of spy hunter would also be great as everybody loves spy hunter, Or i think an XM revised version of pole position would be also excellent and surely the easiest route to take, if the graphics were cleaned up and the engine note made arcade accurate it would totally transform the game, The illusion of speed is totally lost due to the poor engine sound, Ive always been fond of the game and would definitely buy an improved version.

  4. This is great, im not bothered about the two player option, Lets just keep it as the arcade original and yes please publish this to cart and as somebody else mentioned above this goes out to all you talented programmers give us zaxxon and spy hunter and defender these would all be excellent titles to have in the collection and i would personally buy them all.

I would also really love it if somebody did an XM revision of pole position 2, I love the game but with better graphics and arcade engine sounds it would be awesome

Viva the 7800 such an awesome machine and community

  5. Well i guess some people like making stuff and some dont, For me being able to not only scratch build an entire cabinet but the continued enjoyment of playing it and knowing you made it is better than anything else.

Admittedly these things can also be very trying especially when your building them in two days flat out, I have probably been close to tears a few times, Ive just finished building a neo geo MVS and am literally taking it home in about an hour from now but this one had me pulling my hair out, I built the cabinet and just mocked up the monitor fittings only to discover the monitor had now stopped working so i had to dash out and buy another which was a different size meaning i had to rip all the mountings out and fabricate brand new ones.

Things like this can be trying when your under the hammer but i have to keep focussed on the prize because i know that when i get that thing home and power it up its gonna be awesome.

but like i said it depends on each person and what you get from it, i could personally build these things all day long im only hindered by space :)

  6. I've always thought Kaboom deserved a cabinet. Perhaps there was one? It stands out to me as possibly one of the best spinner games ever, and as far as I know, it never saw the inside of an arcade. The green color and the distinctive character would make for nice cab-art.

I think the 5200 version has a "pitch and catch" 2 player mode that would be really fun as a stand up.

Just get on and build yourself one

  7. I agree with the post above. The creation of an arcade machine for an original game (or one that wasn't an actual arcade game) is what I liked most about this.

I downloaded Space Paranoids from Unity a while back. It would be awesome to have it in a custom cabinet in the Tron arcade style (black lights, Tron joystick, etc) and Space Paranoids artwork. I don't think I could pull it off as a first effort, if at all. But maybe someday..

Hmmmmmmmmm i could definitely do this but i like to be original, Im thinking of building an Star Wars stand up machine , Ive really fallen in love with that game recently after picking it up on the 2600 and what an amazing version that is also

  8. I'll give you my harsh opinion. I think it rocks! In fact I love the whole arcade you built. I have the same idea in mind. Everyone is doing the same old classic machines. I want to do something different. This is right up my alley! Great job!

And to the snob earlier, go talk to your friends family or coworkers (if you have any) like that. And I will call you a liar too.

Just so you know Yandman, your idea and this post has gone international!! I heard about it on the podcast Retro Gaming Roundup just today. It's sure to get picked up everywhere now!

Thank you thank you i really appreciate your kind words, I love building machines but there is nothing better than someone else appreciating your work, I just started building a brand new and slightly modernised Neo geo MVS cabinet ill post pictures if you would like to see it on here when im done.

And as for it being mentioned on a pod cast ........WOW that is really cool, Im not a podcast guy , Was there any feedback to it or what was said about it??

    Thanks again

  9. Isn't Groovy Bee already working on Tempest on the Xm, I'm sure its on his page and i spoke to him about it some six months ago, If it isn't him then somebody definitely is and there is already a part working version available, Either way i hope one of you great programmers does this as i love the game and would buy a cartridge for sure.

  10. I got a hankering the other night to play some Gravitar after stumbling across an advert for the original arcade machine, Being in the u.k i would obviously require a pal copy, I hopped over to ebay thinking i would pick one up for cheap only to discover there wasn't a single copy for sale a brief scan around also turned up nothing, Is this a rare title in the u.k as it certainly isn't stateside.

I have one good contact for carts that has one copy for sale but he wants £20.00 for it and i don't wish to play it that much

  12. You know, the next step is to program your own games and run them in their own custom cabinets. How sweet would that be? It would be like stepping into an alternate arcade dimension. I think I would be tempted to start with some games from the Simpsons - Larry the Looter, Dash Dingo or an arcade version of Bonestorm.

i am already programming an 80's style arcade blaster to then fit into my own cabinet, Im so excited at the prospect that i had the artwork and colour scheme decided before i started making the game

  13. Ok, I really am jealous now. Those are nice!

I am feeling motivated to give this a try for my "gameroom". Would you be willing to share any tips, tricks, and technical advice?

    Truly impressive, sir.

yeah sure ive already received many messages from members wanting to do the same thing

  14. I really like this machine. I'm amazing you got this built in three days. If I attempted such a thing, I would probably lose a couple of fingers.

Thank you, The three days on this occasion was actually a luxury, All the others were built in two days as i don't have a garage of my own living in an apartment, my place of work allows me to use their workshop over the weekend when they are closed, So i get from Saturday morning until Sunday evening and that's from buying the wood to switching it on.

not easy but when your focused on the prize your taking home it makes it a little easier.
