I do not question the power of 7800 (Not after Draconian and Super Cobra's CDF bankswitching on the 2600 at any rate) but I still needs to play it. Can i's have mah cake and ate it too? 2600 games look like 7800 now, and 7800 games looklike 16-bit wars...

Interesting. I have noticed that very recently, If I set the theme to Deflection on a desktop browser or tablet browser, then load the site on my Android phone, it reverts back to mobile theme unless I tell Chrome Android (mobile) to load the desktop version. As my phone is significantly smaller than the tablet, the mobile theme works better on it. However I have noticed very recently the forum now remembers my preference when using a tablet or desktop browser (or desktop mode in mobile) so I no longer have to constantly swap themes everytime I login from a different device. Just hit the mode setting in Chrome to swap layouts. This is a big improvement in usability.

How to jump to last read message in a thread?
Andromeda Stardust replied to 6BQ5's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
Change the Atariage theme to anything besides mobile, then click the last button after the page list. Does Apple Safari have a "desktop" mode? On Chrome Android you can trick the browser into reporting to sites as a desktop so you don't get a gimped browsing experience. For example, enabling "desktop mode" while browsing Atariage, even from a mobile device, enables the wysiwyg editor instead of plain text. Most smartphones are more powerful than any ten year old pc, so desktop modes mostly works fine, though the bigger your tablet, the better. Only thing that doesn't really work is mouseover links, but those disappeared with the dotcom bust... -
This is using deflection color scheme on android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8Gb). Both with desktop (wysiwyg editor) and mobile (plain text editor) browsing modes set in Chrome, the multiquote button acts like the regular quote button. It oens quote in advsnced editor instead of the usual behavior. I've got to get sleep so I can't fire up the desktop to test with Windows atm.

Yeah, my math was bad. The "pack in" game seems like wishful thinking at this point. I would like some clarification on the operation of the pin adapters. Will the Analogue SMS adapter work like a Power Base Mini on real hardware? Will I get FM sound through a standard adapter if I use the Powerbase Mini with the Analogue? When will the Game Gear adapters come out? I've bought several games in anticipation. Hopefully the $10 adapters don't cost $20+ to ship... -

Speaing of announcements, is there any chance of getting a pack in for Mega SG? Super Turrican DX was announced on October 23, 2017, according to Ars Technica: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/10/analogue-adds-unreleased-snes-game-to-its-super-nt-hardware/ Everything is still mum however with less than one month till release... -
"GameStop Enters Sellout Talks"
Andromeda Stardust replied to Austin's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Plus there's too many of them. We have literally two Gamestops actoss the street from one another in one busy shopping district. One of them was an EB Games prior to the 2006 merger. If there's enough business to support two locations on one city block, why not merge them and use a larger retail space to diversify product selection? -
What a waste. Gutting machines to sell them piecewise because the sum of the parts are worth more than the whole, uggg...

I'm not dumping my Amazon preorder for the "2.4Ghz" controller. I bundled the preorder with some unrelated stuff (which I've long since received) and if I cancelled it, it would bring my total to less than $25 so I'd eat the shipping surcharge on my free super saver discount. Besides, I don't plan on using the controller with anything but Genesis and/or Mega SG, so I'm good. Adopting Sega's six button layout to Nintendo/Sony's diamond pad and visa versa is awkward at best. I am wondering if 8bitdo have a 3/6 button mode option for the 2.4Ghz wireless controllers, for those games like Tengen MsPacman and others that go berzerk with 6-button controllers inserted. "Hold mode during power on" doesn't work well when you have to sync it. -

I'm almost tempted to mod my otherwise useless Sega Sports Pad into a Windows Mouse. Teh three games it works with blow chunks. Thanks for the heads up! -
Holy hell yeah, that looks awesome! I hope they got rid of the assinine Tspin move.

Admission you were wrong is a positive step. Better than denial. I forget how many steps there are again? 5? 12? Depends on which self help pamplet I read. Release the cadaver dogs and start pulling survivers and/or bodies out of the train wreck? I digress... I tossed $30 into that dumpster fire, though the sting is a lot less for me. I'm just a joystick junkie, didn't give two flips about the actual system, lol! Had I backed the console, I'd of felt royally screwed, and possibly a bit "dirty" for supporting those asshats and indulging their lucid fantasies. I called in sick today with a fever, and just finished binging the 5th season of Bojack Horseman, so forgive me if I'm a bit more cynical than usual right now. We can all sit back and review the folley. Take notes: Some ideas look good on paper but really aren't. Most truly great ideas require a visionary to see it through. Snake oil salesman sell hopes and dreams. Atari SA is all of those things and none of those things. At our most vulnerable, we delude ourselves with half-truths and rush to seek out others with like-minded ideas. The 1969 moon landing was a stage play. 911 was an inside job. 1984 is happening right now with smartphones and social media. We are all just puppets and don't even know it. And yeah, this one's a fact: Atari VCS 2.0 outsold the Nintendo Switch in 2020. I've been there; I have seen it. Don't believe me? There's a flux capacitor stuffed in the back of my Kia, even if it's just cardboard, leds, and surgical tubing...

LOL. I was [email protected] for a while. 5/16/99 was my high school graduation date. Then Collegeguy_2000x breifly before I dropped out in 2001. Then samson (somethingsomething) from the biblical character when I was suffering depression, around the time I decided to grow my hair out. I have kept this account since spring 2001, pre-911, pushing 18 years soon. That's dedication. The stardust nickname came to use later. I used alt accounts poet_stardust and art_by_stardust to put my own website on geocities. it's all gone now, but I'm kosmic_stardust on deviantart. -
Holy crap! 1B points... :o Did you use save states?!?! Debugger? How many days of continuous playing did it take to reach this score?

Apples to oranges man. If we are going to include add-on peripherals, then it becomes a different system. Lots of gray area with computers because unlike consoles they come in multiple configurations. Also some Atari 400/800 carts do have compatibility issues with the XL/XE models. Add to this some intrepid hackers have converted 800 disk games to run on XL/XE compatible cart hardware, What you suggest ie 800 vs XL/XE is more like comparing DS to DSi, or 3DS to N3DS, or GB to GBC. You have upgraded base configurations that maintain backwards compatibility for the most part. Diskette to cartridge or card to CDROM is an entirely different medium with an intrinsically incompatible interface. However it can also be argued that computers were specifically designed with upgradeability in mind unlike consoles. The expansion port on the Sega Genesis saw usage but the NES and SNES did not. -
FPGA Based Videogame System
Andromeda Stardust replied to kevtris's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The so-called "portable hdmi" systems are one of two things: a clone chip with an upscaler or an emulator with a dumper. A retron-like device could use a pin adapter to interface a different cartridge form factor, then send the dumped rom to the appropriate emulator. An FPGA could in theory do the same thing by swapping cores. Dedicated hardware cannot play carts from other systems without loads of dedicated gardware crammed into the cart. It is plausible an hd emulator / dumper system might use pin adapters. I literally just took one look at the devicevand assumed it was the same tech as those Detro Duo handhelds. The GBA-on-a-chip used in the Advance Retro Port is fairly hard to find now as it seems to be discontinued, but the Game Cube GB Player is imo a better solution for playing GBA games, and an hdmi dongle exists for DOL-001 models. -
Meh. Different strokes for different folks. I used to suck at SHMUPs, but I got loads better with practice (Galaga [Arcade, NES] and Blazing Lazers [TG-16] are two of my all time favs). FPS in general I loathe with a passion. I used to suck at beat em ups (Ninja Gaiden, Turtles, et al). Still do. Platformers, I excell at run-n-jumps (Mario), suck at run-n-guns (Contra, Megaman, et al). Puzzle Games (Tetris), I'm a natural born wizard. Decent at maze chase games, love playing all forms of Pacman. I love pinball sims, hate sports sims, regardless of difficulty. RPGs, depends on story progression, pacing, and amount of grinding necessary to level up. Love Zelda as well.

Yes and No. Keep reading for a more technical explanation. These devices feature a cartridge containing a complete system-on-a-chip that pulls controller input from the cartridge port and dumps composite + L/R audio output through a trrs jack in the back. Certain snes clone systems such as Retrobit will also pass the a/v signal to the rca jacks in the rear of the console (or embedded screen for portables) so that you don't need to use the spare jack in the side of the cart to pass the video. Here's a crappy video of myself playing GBA games on the Super NT using such a device. I imagine the NES ones should work similarly. Note there is no means for the Super NT to actually pass "composite" video from the cartridge to the HDMI port (though it does pass the audio) as it lacks the necessary upscalar hardware to do so, so I routed the video signal externally to my crt. It functions quite flawlessly on my dual display setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqvcodUN64w -
Didn't the blister pack versions normally contain fixed segment monochrome or faux-color LCD games, and the boxed versions contained full color LCD rastor displays? An exception to this rule was the Walmart exclusive color Pacman. You might even get super duper lucky with a retro style fixed segment LCD game instead of another vanilla subpar arcade port.

Classic mode AI and "remember pellets" menu options should make it much more accessible. What more do you need? Drain plug? Infinite lives?

VCS/2600 Game Rarity by Number of Known Copies
Andromeda Stardust replied to Blazing Lazers's topic in Atari 2600
Neither is a Sega CD game also a Genesis game, even though the CD unit requires a Genesis to run. I attempted to apply this logic to the yahoos at pcenginefx, by arguing that PCe CDROMs are not technically Turbografx/PCe "games" (which run Hucards in their base configuration), and the base configuration of the PCe, Coregrafx, or Turbografx does not support playing them. They countered that the base console without the CD attachment was an incomplete system (even at launch, because support for CD-ROM drives was planned into the device), and it was my own fault for depriving myself access to over half the library by cheaping out and not getting a "complete" system (defined as either a Duo or a core model with drive attachment). Those clunkers are not only stupidly expensive but suffer from rotten gears, dried caps, dead lasers, and a metric ton of other reliability issues. Let's just say the thread did not end well... -
