  1. There are crap games on every system. And every system has some critical flaw...
  2. Gigantic countdown timer spotted on the AtariAge storefront. What could it be? I have a feeling a big update is in store. Better get your wallets ready! https://www.atariage.com/store/
  3. Both, LOL! Infinite nested loop... I don't know what the correct term is. The GOTO command sends the program outside of the IF-THEN-ELSE loop without executing the END IF command. This leaves the loop open. Then the program creates a new nested loop within the previous IF-THEN-ELSE statement. Every time Mario bashes his head on the question block, the nest level goes one deeper. Assuming the program has finite computing resources, it will eventually run out of memory and crash. I wrote a purposely bad program to see in anyone would catch it. Nobody did. Mario's head will get bloodied up long before it crashes. Or he get a concussion...
  4. My CX-80 thinks it is a CX-22. UP or LEFT indicates direction of travel and DOWN or RIGHT alternates with each pulse. Vertical movement on the trackball is on the horizontal joystick axis and visa versa. I am attempting to navigate the Harmony menu with the switch in JS position. TESTCART.BIN indicates I am getting normal joystick behavior with the switch in JS position so the mode select switch is functioning properly (rolling the trackball north, south, east, or west pushes the joystick in the proper direction), but Harmony menu itself still acts screwy, even with the trackball in JS mode.
  5. Wow. One retro system is also a pretty narrow scope for an e-zine. Well maybe not for an extremely popular system like NES, Turbo/PCe, or Neo Geo, but only so much can be discussed for the 7800. 50 pages is a lot. Also if a dude known for propagating false information is promoting a magazine, that can't bode well...
  6. Atari "invented" the home console. Nintendo "perfected" it!
  7. Ah, so the trackball is basically creating a partial "duty cycle" by toggling the input? I could see that causing issues. But the trackball is rapidly toggling between two menu items when rotated, even in JS mode. I assume rapid fire on the joystick would just scroll at lightning speed, not toggle between two items.
  8. 5200 may have been a commercial flop, but it's no Virtual Boy. 5200, 7800, and Lynx were all soft flops. Each sold in numbers and had a decent library. Jaguar on the other hand floped hard. But words cannot even describe the level of fail that is the Virtual Boy. Best summed up in this rocket launch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BldHM3NfIw
  9. USPS sell large flat rate boxes. For over-sized boxes, UPS is generally more cost effective.
  10. One thing to bear in mind with Loot Crate and Indie Box, you may be getting a killer deal on the sticker price of the contents, but you are signing up for a subscription service and literally have no control over the items they ship you. You get a game or some collectible "loot" every month, and sure it's neat, but ask yourself if it's something you wanted or would have bought anyway. I may like platforming games or SHMUPs but have little interest in fighting games for instance. I collect Amiibo but could care less about Star Wars figurines. So by signing up for a service like Loot Crate or Indie Box, I would be paying for at least a few things I essentially don't want. So the value really isn't there for me. And I'm sure you can't simply decide every month whether or not you want to buy the item they have on offer. Subscriptions don't work that way.
  11. Albert, if we buy the digital ROM for a game, will you credit that towards the purchase price of a Cart or CIB of said game?
  12. Neat idea but the price is a bit high for digital.
  13. I totally need to put in Tower Toppler in my Best AV-modded 7800 and see how my 2006 Sanyo LCD responds...
  14. Well, it's open to interpretation, but it looks Greek to me. The Delta is a dead givaway. Frat shirt. ΔTK Well they got the first two letters right. I prefer the ΔTX (Delta Tau Chi) frat-house myself. Look it up. I also did a little Google sleuthing. Here's the original image: Source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/713953161 EDIT: Well fart. On closer inspection, the third letter does appear to be X (Chi).
  15. The artifacting must be in the TV set rather than the signal itself. I added a macro shot of the LCD Sanyo. Side by side comparison. Same 4-Switch Atari (with 820ohm color fix). Same RF NTSC channel 2. Click to blow up. Mind blown...
  16. Bump. I added a macro shot of the LCD Sanyo. Side by side comparison. Same 4-Switch Atari (with 820ohm color fix). Same RF NTSC channel 2. Mind blown...
  17. Older MAME ROMs don't work with newer MAME. Newer MAME ROMs don't work with older MAME. Doesn't help that there's a billion different versions of MAME and when browsing the usual online ROM repositories, it's a total crapshoot as to which MAME version the file you are downloading is compiled for. Worse yet, some MAME ROMs are dependent upon source data files that only exist in other MAME ROMs. For instance, if you download PACMAN.ZIP, you will find that files are missing. Without PUCKMAN.ZIP, Pacman will not operate correctly. Just cherry picking your favorite games may appear to be broken if they depend on files contained within other ROMs. So unless you download a "complete" set for your specific version of MAME, many games might not work due to missing files as a result of cross dependencies. It's a real clusterfuck. Compare that to say the iNES ROM format that worked flawlessly in 1997 and still works today. Sorry if I sound cynical. There's really no excuse for breaking compatibility and requiring users to update their ROM collection with each new release. No other emulator program does this... I'll also add that, once you get a working ROM set with a matching version of MAME, it is pure awesome sauce. I run MAME4ALL on Raspberry Pi with a full MAME v37b5 ROM set...
  18. ROTFLMFAO!!! That's gotta be worth at least ten rolls... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:
  19. Likewise I haven't gotten the cartridge boot I ordered from them in July, although my total order was less than $10 but still...
  20. Yes. Please follow these instructions, complete with infinite nested loop... 10 Bang head on the question block. 20 IF block = red 30 THEN Call 911 40 ELSE GOTO 10 50 END IF
  21. Sorry. I was probably quoting the wrong post so I removed the quote. I meant labeling the ROMs as CX-80 as if they were compatible with all CX-80s when CX-80s clearly behave like CX-22s can be misleading. Part of this blame can be placed on Atari for making incompatible hardware revisions to the danged controllers. So switchless CX-22 is joystick only (useless without modding), and CX-80 with switches is CX-22 or joystick. I wasn't aware that CX-80 trackballs existed without the switch, but somebody obviously had a CX-80 that acted like an ST or these ROMS would never have been labeled as CX-80. Now based on some message board posts that predate the world-wide-web as we know it, some CX-80s with switches do in fact act like ST mice. Let's just say that unknown CX-80s have an identity crisis until they have been properly identified.
  22. There is no light on the PC Engine. But I think that was the point of your post.
