How come a lot getting into retro games skip Atari?
Andromeda Stardust replied to totallyterrificpants's topic in Atari 2600
Only as a software company. And Sonic games for the past ten years or so have been mediocre at best... -
He's got a VGA mod on his so there's a number of capture devices that support it.

The Video Game Homebrew Crash of 2016
Andromeda Stardust replied to Andrew Davie's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah there are certain hacks and homebrew cash grabs out there, but there are also genuinely good games on NES homebrew as well. A lot of stuff I buy with the intention of playing. The adult themed games I find humerous as well. -

Yeah it's definitely on my radar. The Retron5 that doesn't suck. Bonus points for Turbografx/PCe support. -

Hyperkin Retron Atari 2600 system (would you buy one?)
Andromeda Stardust replied to Polybius's topic in Atari 2600
As much as I would love to see 2600 hardware clones, I don't see it happening anytime soon. I recently learned about a Japanese Retron5 type system that supports everything the Retron5 does plus TG-16/PCe. I may have to pick one up sometime... -
Atari 2600 "Red sea crossing" Real or fake
Andromeda Stardust replied to Max_Revolver's topic in Atari 2600
Well at least there is a good chance you may get reimbursed. Let this be a lesson though to always double check the authenticity of the items before purchase. Online purchases this is often hard to do sadly. It's sad that these scammers take advantage of innocent folk. Worse there are probably ten more collectors that bought his goods and don't even know they were duped. I've watched Pawn Stars enough to know people bring in fakes to the shop all the time. Gaming isn't so different from any other collecting hobby. -
Well Air raid steals the sprite data and sound effects from Space jockey... But the physics are totally different. Gameplay is nothing alike.

As someone who retrogamed for ten years before getting an Atari, it is because everyone else thinks it "sucks". If everyone you talk to claims it sucks, then you'll assume it sucks and dismiss it without trying. That said, the primitive VCS graphics have a "rawness" about them I would consider to be an aquired taste. NES was the first system to achieve cartoon like level of realism. The fact that the tiles really come together to create a living, breathing character instead of a bunch of blocky rectagles went a long way to change the perception of gaming. Some people have an equally hard time accepting the rough polygon models of the 5th generation N64 and PS1 and I understand that as well. There are a number of parallels between 2nd gen 2D and 5th gen 3D since sprite tech and nearly 20 years later polygon tech were in their respective infancies. But I also say, don't knock something until you've tried it. I really loved some of the early NES and Famicom games with their arcadey feel, and the 2600 really shines in this arena. Once you get over the graphics and sound, there is a lot to love here. Best advice? Don't knock something before you've tried it. -
Good luck with the sale...

The Video Game Homebrew Crash of 2016
Andromeda Stardust replied to Andrew Davie's topic in Atari 2600
7800 is vastly different from 2600. For starters there is a damn sprite table so that you don't have to "race the beam" by spending 75% of CPU time adjusting and updating the display on every scanline. In fact I believe the VCS is the only console that works line by line without any kind of display buffer. So Maria can handle a metric ton of sprites onscreen unlike the TIA had two players, two missiles, a ball, and some blocky playfield backgrounds. -

^^Asteroids as well as the Harmony menu looks much better now that you can see everything despite the flicker! -
Lame... I never do Black Friday. Always too stuffed and a bit comatose from Turkey overdose.

Thanks for the update Omegamatrix. I've been dying to see this game finished ever since I downloaded the PRGE 2013 demo ROM over two years ago. Keep us posted...

What is your favorite console generation?
Andromeda Stardust replied to NeoTurboManiac's topic in Classic Console Discussion
From best to worst: 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th. NES/FC is my favorite console but 4th gen wins because it's hard to beat the trio of great systems SNES/SFC, Genesis/MD, and TG-16/PCe from that generation. Companies from favorite to least: Nintendo, Atari, Sega, NEC/Hudson, Sony, Ouya (I only list companies I own at least one game console from) But really each gen and every system have good games and crap games. I own consoles and play games from every generation so it isn't fair to ask me to pick my least favorite because I enjoy them all. If I don't enjoy something, I simply sell it off and get rid of it. Just because 8th gen is at the end of my list doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing Wii-U for instance. In fact I do consider it a better console than Wii, but overall 7th gen offered more variety of content. -
The Video Game Homebrew Crash of 2016

It gets even more batsh** insane with the guys at NintendoAge and the NES homebrew market. I recently purchased a copy of this game, cornball c0cksuckers. Inspired by an NA thread that went south. No BS. Now I'm almost scared to play it... NSFW! Yeah I never much saw the point in Desert Bus. Maybe create the most boringest game on the planet? -
Even if you take it in as a suppository, the metal detector will find it!

Mine used half-inch PVC pipe. The pipe is half inch internal diameter, 5/8" outer diameter. I bought a length of pipe and a T-joint and two caps. Cut about two 3/4" length of pipe and superglue into the T-joint. Superglue the caps on flush to the T-joint. Place the rod into the bottom of the T-joint. with superglue. Spraypaint the T-handle on the end of the rod. Spray paint both sides of the cart shell. Let dry. Then cut the T-handle off about 1/4-3/8" from the base. Assemble the cart without the ROM PCB. Drill a 5/8" hole into the end of the cart. Disassemble the cart, place the ROM inside, and reassemble. Test the game. Superglue the T-handle in place so that the T-joint is flush with the cart end. Make sure it is not twisted. Let dry. Apply label. Enjoy Air Raid repro. See also my Air Raid magnet mod I did. Mine T-handle a lot more proportional to the original than that piece of crap in the eBay auction. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/204618-air-raid-magnet-mod/

Generally when you don't get updates from the developer for a while, it means he is super busy with the project and not responding to forum posts. -

People also complained about unmodded TG-16s not behaving nicely with the TED v2.2 It's kind of a crap shoot really. -
Atari 2600 S-Video Mod and Capturing Video
Andromeda Stardust replied to ChrisKewl's topic in Atari 2600
The Atari and most other 240p consoles do not output exactly at 59.94Hz so the upscaler may be compensating for that by duplicating or skipping a frame ever so often. This is why the blink frames occasionally switch between even and odd fields. The stream online is definitely 30Hz so somewhere the video data is being deleted. Svideo capture may create venetian blinds or delete every other frame depending on the type of deinterlace filter used by the capture software. You really want to blend the frames and upload/stream at 30Hz so that both the even and odd sprites show up. I have DSL at home and I would never have the uplink bandwidth to stream anything live so I have the option of reencoding the video stream from my capture card from interlaced mpeg2 to progressive 30Hz MP4 using handbrake. Your capture hardware may or may not like the S-Video feed from your Atari depending on how tolerant it is. -

I have Turbo ED v1.2 and would recommend you stick with that one due to glaring compatibility issues with the v2. -
Yeah I saw the "broken" pic. LOL such a joke! Rosa broke her Air Raid cart, cry, cry, pout, cry. because whe won't be gettin $1000+ for this fake...
-
Not yet. Batari is still working out the bugs. The goal is to make it compatible with Encore as well as support all 7800 games including Hokey/Pokey

Well the current bid is only $99 so it seems peeps bidding on his homemade press kit aren't as gullible as the seller thinks...
