The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!
Andromeda Stardust replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Console Discussion
And Nintendo did release the western SMB2 on Famicom cartridge as "Super Mario USA" I see little reason to play the Doki Doki FDS ROM, though my Powerpak does support it. -
Weak... Here's how to do one proper. Mine is practically bulletproof. I cut two 3/4" sections off of a .5" internal diameter PVC. Place the end sections into the the T-section and superglue the end caps and long pipe into the butt of the T piece. Spray paint gloss black. Drill a 5/8" hole in the center of the cart end. Pipe slides into the hole. Superglue it shut. Yeah it's only a "dummy" AA fridge magnet and black instead of blue, but it's rock solid. The case would probably split wide open before that T-handle would rip off.

Let's change the subject. Fun fact: Air Zonk was once known as Bonkinator. Proto screenshot: -
Yeah no kidding; the other day, I saw this lovely creation by PacmanPlus: Let's see... DK Arcade and DK VCS are both 32kb but they use different PCBs, correct?

Atari 2600 "Red sea crossing" Real or fake
Andromeda Stardust replied to Max_Revolver's topic in Atari 2600
Good point Dan. You are right. Atari (1st party and 3rd party), all Nintendos, Sega Genesis, all had round edges on the labels. Not sure but maybe SMS, Lynx, and NEC Hucard had square corners? I had to go check my collection. Lynx have the only labels with true square corners, and only square on the connector side. Hucard labels are "baked" into the plastic; no label to peel off. SMS have nearly square looking corners but with my unaided nearsighted eyes I can clearly see rounded corners upon very close inspection. I'd say the turn radius on the SMS is extremely sharp, well less than half a millimeter turn radius, but it is there. Heck, even most of my homebrews and repros, at least those from reputable makers, have rounded corners. I have a couple though with clearly handmade labels that were cut with either a guillotine or a strait edge. -
Maybe Santa will bring me a Xonox "double ender" with DK Arcade and DK VCS...

SMB2 has more polish in my opinion. Graphics are better, for instance the Slot Machine is fleshed out and the Albatross has more frames of animation. Run physics vastly improve the pacing of the game too. Did I mention you can play as the princess? -
How has this not been posted yet? Retro VGS

Yeah I think one reason why the lower priced KS are usually more successful isn't just the market but risk vs reward. At $10-$30 investment, a cool looking KS doesn't impose much risk. If I contribute $30 and it gets funded but never truly launches, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If I contribute $300 to a project, they'd better damned be sure to have every i dotted and every t crossed, because I'll need to be 100% assured that I'll receive something tangible in return. Even if the damned thing was a blockbuster success and they were selling it at Target and Best Buy, I'd still question whether it was worth the price of parting with $300. And I'm part of the target demographic for this. But at $150 retail, I'd be all over that thing like flies to a dog turd! -
Fingers crossed the disks are still readable...

Yeah I just found this thread earlier: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/239376-7800-centipede-arcade/ Unfortunately I won't have a flash device to play these hacks until the Concerto ships. Batari is trying to diagnose issues affecting a minority of 7800 consoles. I need to open my CX-80 trackball (acts like a CX-22) to clean the rollers but other than that it's golden. I'm assuming the screw holes are located under the four rubber feet.

Yeah I'm well aware of Doki Doki panic as a black sheep in the Mario canon. The ending credits where it is revealed Mario is dreaming makes it clear that it wasn't intended to be canonical. I also consider the Lost Levels more of a "Super Mario Bros 1.5" than a separate entry in the series. However SMB2 earned it's place based on the legacy it left behind. Shyguy, Sniffit, Bob-omb, Pokey, Birdo (whose gender origin is a big question mark) and the item tossing mechanic all made their debut in this game. Also Luigi, Peach, and Toad all get unique physics in later games where they make an appearance such as Super Paper Mario and 3D World. This might not have been were it not for SMB2. Wait, I thought this was the Turbografx thread!? -

Thanks. I'll keep a watch on it. May pick it up sometime but at the moment it's fairly cheap and doesn't appear to be at risk of skyrocketing in value any time soon. Then again with the way Turbografx collecting has been headed, any game that's not an absolute turd has potential to jump upwards in price. -
This is so awesome guys... Concerto will not come soon enough. Will you be releasing a78 files compatible with the upcoming Concerto?

Yeah lots more that I forgot to mention as well. Oftentimes the SNES version had more polish but I was really just trying to sum up trilogies on one system. Also used Zelda as another "2nd game is always the oddball" example if you count Link to the Past as the third iteration. -
The things I could to with that Blow up doll. I think Rosie/Rosa would be proud!

Sweet! Had no idea this existed. Will the .bin work on a Concerto?

This Air Raid cart is posessed. I swear...

More often than not, the first game is great, the second game is the odd one, and the third returns to it's roots with far more polish. Notice the middle one always has the wacky gameplay mechanics. SMB1 -> SMB2 -> SMB3 Zelda -> Zelda 2 -> Zelda LTTP Castlevania -> CVII -> CVIII -
I know this is the 2600 forum but do you think 7800 Centipede could be updated for trackball? It's almost a perfect arcade port as is but with trackball support like the 2600 hack it would be perfect.

Another 7800 Game to update like Donkey Kong XM?
Andromeda Stardust replied to swlovinist's topic in Atari 7800
I've been following the other thread where 2600 games are getting the trackball treatment. One of my favorites is Centipede. 7800 Centipede already plays so well but it would be perfect with trackball control. Anybody think this is feasible? http://atariage.com/forums/topic/243453-atari-2600-trak-ball-games/ -
