I had a bad feeling that the eBay auction would hurt the sale on GameGavel. It sucks that this happened, but at least the seller was honest enough not to wait until the end to retract and/or artificially inflate the price. I bid on an eBay auction once on a one-of-a-kind item (hand constructed mod) with a max bid of $80. It wasn't video game related, but it was one of my other niche hobbies which has a much smaller collector pool (twisty puzzles, eg Rubick's cube type logic puzzles with often exotic geometries). The current high bid was ~$30 bucks, and I placed a single max bid of $80. This raised my price to ~$50, and I would have won the auction, had I not been sniped in the last minute. I don't know if I fell victim to shill bidding or not, but the auction was won for $81. A couple days later, I received a "second chance" offer of $80 from the seller who informed me that the winning bidder had retracted his bid. I reluctantly accepted his offer, but ultimately ended up paying $30 more for the item that I would have if the bloke who retracted his bid hadn't placed it to begin with. I am glad that GameGavel cares enough about people to remove any offset created by the offers. Hopefully we get more bids in the final day, hour, minutes of bidding.
That said, it would still be cool to see a new Atari record set by this auction. That is another problem with eBay. You never really know if these some of these record-breaking $20,000-$40,000 NES actions were actually completed sales or not, unless the buyer or seller comes forward and publicly says so in a forum.

I've gotten sniped plenty of times. Pisses me off. I may be asleep or in school, work, etc... But if there's a limit to what you want to pay for an item, whether you have the means to pay more or not is moot. I view people who overpay for stuff as not being very frugal with their money. Had they waited or done more searching as I did, they could have gotten it cheaper. I swear some people are more obsessed with winning than getting a good deal, especially when an auction on an item goes higher than an available BIN for identical items. I even sometimes post (and win) items with best offers. I have found the golden ratio on a "Best Offer" is typically approximately 2/3 the value of the instant BIN price. Another thing that bugs me about eBay bidding: changing my own bid to a higher maximum amount adds to the bid total of an auction even though only one or two people besides myself may have actually placed bids. Does this actually wreck my chances of winning the item or improve my chances, by say increasing my max bid three times instead of just placing one bid at the higher amount?

Hi. There are a number of threads I've been watching here, and occasionally, I'll stop receiving updates. this happens a lot, and I miss some recent activity in the thread. When I see that new threads have been posted, I'll click on the thread and I'll have to resubscribe. Also, can we make the default option to "only when not online" instead of "instantly"? Otherwise, my inbox gets inundated with replies if I forget to change the option.
Also, I understand there's a mobile version of the site. How do I access it on my 3DS web browser? Sometimes on 3DS, my message doesn't post correctly and I lose my post, or on occasion I get double or triple posts with the 3DS web browser because the buttons sometimes don't respond correctly. I think this could be prevented if I can figure out how to access the mobile version.

I can't access the mobile site on my 3DS web browser. Is there a special link?

How do I access the mobile site on my 3DS? I have issues posting sometimes using the full version.

The Wikipedia launch dates on several of the Game Boy Color titles was wrong. Super Mario Deluxe was a Game Boy Color launch title. I should know, because I recieved Super Mario Deluxe, Tetris DX, and Wario Land II along with shiny new translucent purple Game Boy Color for Christmas in December 1998, shortly after launch. I remember playing them all through Spring semester as a senior in high school. I graduated in May 16th 1999, and I remembered playing the crap out of my Game Boy Color during spring semester while I should have been doing homework. If the Wikipedia date is to be believed, then why do I have memories of playing it at school? In the USA it came out May 10, 1999 to be exact. Game Boy Advance didn't come out till 2 years later. June 11, 2001
Nintendo instead of re-releasing Super Mario Deluxe on GBA, instead focusing their efforts on other 2D Marios. Super Mario Brothers also got the Classic NES Series treatment. I still have my old Classic NES Edition GBA.
What royally ticked me off about it was that the Game Boy Color racks at Wallmart got filled up with all sorts of Pokesh** games and Nintendo never released new good games because they were too busy cashing in on the Pokemon craze. I was a senior in High School/Freshman in college, so naturally whatever the younger kids were into at the time had to suck.
More accurate than this? I own one of these puppies (FC Mobile II) and love it.If one is bothered by the vertical scrolling and just wants to have handheld versions of the original games that are as accurate as possible, I think the GBA emulations are valid options to consider.

So where does Men-A-Vision fit in your diagram?

The NES, by far. The NES was really the first tile-based system that could accurately emulate arcade games, and it also rescued the video game industry in America from the Atari crash. The NES was my first love as a child, even though my parents never got me one, and since getting my first NES in 2002, I have more NES games than any other system, and if I had to sell every other game system I owned and could only keep just one, it would have to be the NES.
That said, I also have in my collection (and the year I bought them)...
Atari VCS (2012)
NES (2002 - first home console)
SNES (2004)
Genesis (2011)
N64 (2003)
GC (2004)
Wii (2006 launch)
PS3 (2010)
Wii-U (preordered)
Lynx (1994 - dead)
GBC (1998 launch)
GBA (2004)
DS (2004 launch)
3DS (2011 launch)

Yes, and there are actually a small few early Sega Genesis games that don't use standard read routines for the controllers, and these 6-button controllers malfunction or behave erratically with these select games. Sega included a "mode" button on the 6-button controllers to maintain backwards compatibility with these few games as well as SMS, but I have no idea how the "mode" button works and I don't think most other gamers do either. On my RetroUSB Genesis adapter, the "mode" button maps on the Windows control panel just like an extra action button. Nearly all third party Genesis controllers are of the 6-button variety, and clone systems have problems with some games as a result. I do have a three button and a six button Genesis controller; the six button I bought as a spare controller for 2-player games. I'm not really a fan of the fighting/beat-em-up genres, and most of the games that specifically require the 6-button controllers are fighting games. I like the larger roundier buttons on the 3-button controllers, so they suit me just fine as an Atari gamepad.Three button controllers are different from six button controllers. Three button controllers can be switched at any time, any number of times, and return proper data. Six button controllers CANNOT be switched more often than once (one packet - four pulses) per vertical blank. They use the extra time between packets to reset for the next packet. Valid SEGA Genesis games read the controllers during the vertical blank, so that's never been a problem. When using these controllers on other platforms, that is when you need to be a bit more careful.

Personally, I usually try to avoid auctions, and I try to grab the most reasonably priced Buy-it-now that I can find. If I can't find one at a rate that I like, I move someplace else or try again later. The waiting is what kills me, not knowing if the item is really mine yet or not. I'll obsess over it and not be able to sleep, study, etc, and I get a lot more bummed when I lose to a frikken sniper than if I'd just taken a BIN offer. I usually don't bid on uber-rare stuff anyway, so it's usually not that hard to find multiple listings of stuff, like common or popular games and pick the best-looking specimen for a reasonable price. I think more people are so addicted to the thrill of winning, more so than actually "shopping around" or waiting for a more competitive price, like they guy who spends $100 bucks at the casino just for the thrill of winning back $25. I buy plenty of stuff on Amazon marketplace as well as brick-and-mortar stores and online dealers that often have good selection. IMO, if you're going to buy a whole sack of $5-$10 games, it's better to save on the shipping charges and find a store with several that you want so you only pay shipping on one package. And unless you're a brand new collector, forget eBay lots that have two or three really good games and a dozen or so crappy and/or duplicate games you already own, that you now have to attempt to resell to recoup your losses. More trouble than it's worth, especially with prices on common Atari games that have gone down the toilet. Also, parents, spouses, significant others, etc, are less suspicious when you receive one medium-to-large package as opposed to half-a-dozen tiny packages, so less raiding the mailbox or trying to intercept the mailman before your mates find out.
Just place your max bid, and hope you win, simple...(9) <this is my favorite> While I'm waiting to snipe, my Ebay login "goes stale" and when I hit the bid button, I get redirected to a log-in screen, while some other sucker wins the auction, cheap!
Thank you! But unlike a traditional live auction house, on eBay, the price is set by the second highest bidder.HIGHEST BID WINS. End of story

I assume, by "nuke", you mean the biggest possible f***ing weapon imaginable! I'm guessing this means bidding an astronomical amount (like 10,000 for a PacMan cart, for instance) to ensure that no matter how absurd the bids get, you are guaranteed to win. That is arguably fine, provided you are the only Superpower bidding. If you get a situation where two Superpowers try to "nuke" the same auction, you have a nuclear arms race on your hands, and the only one getting "nuked" is the bidder with the largest bank account. Also, I don't always just use sniping but a tactic I call nuking. I'm not going to explain exactly what that is because I would be foolish to give away nukes. What I basically do is nuke the snipers and always win. You can't snipe a nuke. -
Nintendo collectable? A gold Nintendo World Championships cart? Thor's Championship Mario trophy? That thing would look sweet on somebody's mantle...Keep on the look out for a couple more very rare and desirable items, one of them for Atari collectors and one for Nintendo collectors, hitting GameGavel later this week!

I saw that one. The bloke thought he could get $40,000 for an NES that didn't work. I laughed my butt off!!!

Yeah, not bad though considering he likely paid half that for the entire contents of the storage locker

"YUUUP!" - Seriously though, that would be totally awesome if a treasure trove like this showed up on Storage Wars!

Albert, I'm assuming this was an advanced copy? I freaked when I saw the video just a few minutes ago, and checked that the date was last week. I remember last time we talked, you gave me an ETA of one month. I'd honestly thought the ship left harbor without me.No, I will send out emails and PMs when I have carts in hand ready to ship. I'm having some boxes printed at the moment.

That's exactly what I was using when I made this video as "proof" that the Genny controller worked, but other users swore it didn't.This is so bizarre because the genesis controller works fine on my real Atari 2600 without this modification. I'll give it a go though. I can't blame iesposta, because he uses multiple systems and genesis controllers with the same result, however on my 4 switch wood grain with true 2nd model 3 button Sega Genesis controller I can get it go no prob.

Spry, I was just about to PM you with this latest bugfix, as you hadn't replied and I was concerned that you seemed to have dropped off the forums for a while. When do you think Princess Rescue will be totally finished? I already got my shiny new Pacman 4k and Chetiry (Tetris clone) carts from the store, but I'm still seriously craving some Mario. It's just a shame Chetiry doesn't support counter clockwise rotations with a Genny pad, LOL!
For some odd reason, I was subscribed and recieving updates on both Princess Rescue threads, but I got no email tonight when you replied. I looked up and somehow my "subscribed" status had been turned off. And on a couple of other threads, I've had to hit "subscribe" several times. Maybe a site bug?Sorry I haven't been around. When I don't get any emails saying that someone's replied to me, I tend not to check up on the forum. -
Refrigerator magnets are currently 6 bucks, so subtract the cart shell, permanent magnet, and labor from the total. Probably pretty cheap, maybe even free with additional store purchase? I hope he adds a fridge magnet option. For how much?

The ebay one ended at $13,988.89. Less than half of what the first boxed Air Raid went for.
Yes, the box was very "beaten", pun intended. I'm not surprised, but the eBay auction seems to have placed a damper on the GameGavel auction. I studied the bid history on the Red Sea Crossing game, and noticed a pattern: the bids escalated within the first 24 hours, leveled off, then picked back up and soared in the last 24 hours. And there was also another Red Sea Crossing that simultaneously appeared on eBay. It's kind of ironic that the same thing is happening with the GameGavel Air Raid auction.edit: beaten

Fridge magnets with the original label design would be a sweet addition to the shop. Honestly, the history behind this game seems more fascinating to me than actually playing it.I like the original design and I think it looks great! If anyone wants a crappy original label, but with REPRODUCTION stamped on it, I'd be glad to accomodate you.

I think an option to have loose labels for those who want to mod the cart or use their own labels, would be nice. Possibly even sell the cart with an optional original label as a second option. I did not order one, but I feel that the new label is overly bright and colorful compared to the original. The original red/black label kind of matches the graphics and overall feel of the game.I paid for the cart with the understanding that the label was undetermined. I voiced my opinion along with others on what it should be, but had no expectation that the input would have any bearing on the end product. Having said that, I am dissapointed, but still glad that I am getting the game. I will just ask for the labels to come loose and I will try to come up with a repro label for an Apollo cart and then make a magnet or something with the new label.

Kinda surprised I missed this one, actually. I wasn't really interested, but good luck to all who ordered one. I'm more of an Air-Raid kind of guy!

Best taken together with the little yellow/red pills for an out-of-this-world experience!I just took the powder blue t-handled pill.

So many "ifs" going around, aka "if I win the current auction, I'll sell mine for XX less...". And then there's that other boxed one currently for sale on eBay, plus the one that sold in 2010. You may want to go ahead and bid on the current Game Gavel auction, then decide whether you want to sell your current boxed Air Raid. If you commit to sell yours and then you don't win the auction, you'll be less one Air Raid than you have right now.
Assuming out of a theoretical production run of 25 Air-Raid carts, at least four are still boxed, one with the manual intact, and several loose carts floating about in private collections or whereabouts unknown. It still seems the chances that any more turn up in the wild are dire, but if any more carts surface, it will devalue the auction price. I definitely see the Air Raid production run as comparable in rarity/value to the Gold Nintendo World Championships carts.

Thanks so much! I used 1/2" PVC pipe fittings from Lowes. Two end caps and one "T" connector, joined with inch-long pipe segments, and painted with black gloss Krylon spray paint.

Here is some insight why people suspect it to be genuine. It's the funky powder blue T shaped cart. People can fake boxes, but it's much harder to fake the cart.
For a brief moment, I had thought about purchasing some baby blue spray paint, but the risk of totally ruining the cart was just too great. My PVC handle mod would make some great looking custom repros...
