AtariAge site makes no mention of the computers?
Fres replied to Mclaneinc's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
AtariMania is a great resource. I do also appreciate the "800" cart list here at AtariAge. Great scans, no watermarks, etc. I've even created re-pro labels from some of the scans. Hope you don't mind. I've only used them in my personal cart collection. -
To Mod, or Not to Mod: I Ain't Modin' Sh(T No More
Fres replied to gilsaluki's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I consider it an attempt to answer the question, "What might have been?" -
Yes, I believe we met back in the day when I was probably about 16 or so. I also met Butch Luca who lived behind you and ran the Dog House BBS. I remember remarking to my friend who was with me when I met you that you had the voice of a DJ. Turned out you were actually a radio DJ? Good to see you around here. There is still a (semi) active atari 8-bit scene in Indianapolis. Do you still live in town, and do you still have any of your old equipment? John (Fres)

Anyone in Indy want some hardware/machines for free?
Fres replied to ryanmercer's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I have a feeling I know where those are going. However, I'm not sure because there are a few of us still active in Atari stuff in the Indianapolis area. -
No Carmen Sandiego... what else never made it A8?
Fres replied to akator's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Elevator Action Rick Dangerous Prince of Persia Test Drive Great Gianna Sisters Marble Madness Paperboy That's probably all of them. The other ones (like Galaga) would simply be impossible. -
I probably won't need it for several years.

Brilliant work, m' friend.

Ah, so Arkanoid was a PAL game. No wonder it's so difficult, and so quirky on my NTSC machine. Nice looking, though.

Basement Flood - trying to replace some disks
Fres replied to orpheuswaking's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Sorry to hear about it, Orph. Could have been a LOT worse. I've had water issues from time to time in my basement, but I don't think I've lost anything very valuable yet. Don't think I have any of the titles you listed, but I might have some blanks. -
I'm guilty of having a US Doubler that did not come from ICD. If ICD were still around, I might want to throw them a $50 because the USD and SpartaDOS opened so many doors for me. What an innovative company with such a relatively small user base.

I briefly ran a service called ICE (Indy Computer Enthusiasts) on my unmodified 130xe. I used Oasis Jr. which was rock solid. The whole thing booted from a single floppy, created a ramdisk and copied all necessary files to it (SpartaDos batch files were huge), and backed itself up at certain intervals. It only ran at night so viewership was minimal -- still fun. I also helped quite a bit with a service known as Bandit BBS back in the late 80s. Both in Indianapolis. Other Atari BBSs in the area were Riddle's, Paladin, Music Box, Red Desk, Dog House, Outhouse, I'm probably forgetting some others. Man, I miss those days.

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the cartridge case. How many carts does it hold?
-
I respect Mathy's sincerity.

Sounds good. You should post a pic of the whole set.

Some great looking stuff! I'm hoping at least one of them will work on NTSC hardware so I don't have to emulate.

Suggestions needed for A8 Two-Player games for modern teenagers
Fres replied to Britishcar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I don't play simultaneously with others often anymore, but in the old days we had quite a bit of fun playing Zombies / Realm of Impossibility in two player mode. It's much more fun than one player mode. I'll second Goonies too. It's very playable in one player mode, but even more fun for two. Both are co-op only, if I remember correctly. -
I don't think most of us around here would consider tracking down the title of a nostalgic game a waste of time. Personally, I enjoy these kinds of discussions.
-
Wow. I've never noticed that. I don't think it's trivial since I've always wanted to have a good set of executables (rom hacks). Still no luck with Jungle Hunt either.

Pooyan Lost Tomb Nibbler (all licensed as far as I know ...) -
I like Dodge Racer by Synapse. It's written in Basic too. http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-dodge-racer_1655.html

Cool. Actually pretty engaging. Good job.

Atari 8-bit stuff spotted in 1986 movie!
Fres replied to Smokeless Joe's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hilarious. I've never even heard of that film. -
I think there were two pretty active ones in Indianapolis back in the day (for comparison). Larry would know better.

You definitely need a null modem cable or adapter somewhere in the chain. But you can do it entirely with "consumer off the shelf" products even if the PRC or 850 require some bizarre cables. They are getting harder to find, however.
