"Supporting at launch is tantamount to being a guinea pig, at full price taboot."
I read that ^ somewhere... seems kinda harsh, but on point at the same time.
On point? I didn't realize you had a point? Your comment was that you didn't understand people buying next gen systems when they are jaded by this generation. I offered that my support doesn't come from being dissappintment in this gen but, rather, liking to be an early adopter.
The point was that early adopters are willing to wade through the mud when they don't have to...
Really? My mistake. I thought you were confused by people buying new systems when they were jaded by this gen.
What surprises me is that so many are disappointed/jaded with the current affairs of todayGen Gaming, yet they're still willing to support companies at launch.I don't get it.
I didn't realize you were looking to debate the risks/rewards of being an early adopter, since you didn't say anything of the kind, but you seem to be a person that really likes to argue and I'm not such a person so I won't be arguing with you about.
I would love to hear what you think constitutes a "reward" of being an "early adopter".
As far as I'm concerned, it's a Win/Win for the Company making the hardware and software. If you run out and buy their product at first release, you're paying for them to develop a console that will run cooler, last longer, possibly have better components, possibly more hardware options, and make them the most money from the get go.
I see no rewards for the consumer to be a guinea pig. The PS3 'phat' is a perfect example... $7-800 in '06, for something that runs hotter, isn't built to last, and isn't as efficient as the model I waited to buy in early-mid 2010. Same story for the Xbox360, but it's even worse for that console.
Please, I'm not hear to argue you into the ground, I'm genuinely curious as to what you see as value/reward for being the guy who pays full price for the first iteration of hardware. Please... do tell

Um, I only have a finite amount of time on this Earth and, depending on the item in question, I often like to use some of that limited amount of time to enjoy new products. That was the purpose of this thread....to help me determine, based on my own criteria, whether I wanted to buy into the Wii U at launch, post launch, or perhaps never. There's a value proposition here....I valued the time I was able to play games on my Xbox 360 from launch day when I got mine up through the present. I value that enjoyment more than the few bucks I would have saved from waiting and the improvements made to the console.
I understand that there's a world of games out there and, yes, there are certainly enough older games/systems to keep a person occupied for ever. I happen to spend much of my gaming time with such systems/games. Nonetheless, there were features and games that I wanted to play that more than made the 'price of admission' worth it to me. It was not going to be time I got back and I wasn't willing to wait. It wasn't a kneejerk reaction of a blind-eyed gadgetguy for the newest 'thing'.
I really don't even know why I'm responding to this. I personally don't appreciate denigrating the idea of purchasing a console at launch in a thread that I started asking about a console that is about to be launch with the idea that I might be interested in purchasing it.
Well spoken and very well said... I respect your opinion, and your wish to be at the forefront of Gaming if/when you feel it's a viable and potentially satisfying experience.
Have a good one

the number one reason to buy it is Pac-Man VS
three players control the ghosts, using the tv screen and gamecube controller. they have a limited view of the playing field and must work together to get Pac-Man.
Pac-Man uses the GBA (and GBA screen, naturally) and can see the entire maze.
fun times.
That sounds BADASS!!!!! Thanks for the info!!

If there are different releases, can we discuss all iterations?
- VGA graded, and non VGA graded
- Museum quality versus acceptable seals
Any and all combinations are welcome... this is just for fun. I'm not looking to buy or sell said game.

I just restarted Rocketmen after writing it off as pretty bad. The game gets a lot more fun after you realize you can upgrade your character!
Top notch current 2.5D Vertical Shooter... wow, how could you write it off?

I wouldn't use the PS3 as an example... the old ones do more.
You don't have much to say do you....
The most ironic and saddest aspect of this arguement... is that I've literally never pirated a video game in my life (I've been given a couple discs from a friend, and the ones I played/enjoyed I ended buying physical copies at local retailers), and I plan on using hacked .exes for Starcraft II and Diablo III at some point. And those will be the 'only' games I've ever had to do that with in my life. I plan on buying them legitimately, and then using patches to allow me to play offline to my hearts content - I'm soooooo very evil and don't deserve to play video games.
In the eyes of the game publishers, you will indeed be "sooooo very evil". They've got the laws stacked to demonize you and bankrupt you if they catch you with those hacked .exe's so keep that in mind when you give them money. If you're so very much against the practices of an industry, vote with your wallet properly. Don't develop victimized excuses as to why you're playing into their hands as your downloaded copy will be added to the total pirated downloads that will then be pushed towards the government as reason why they need stronger penalties and longer durations on copyright - or they'll once again attempt to entertain the idea of taxing EVERYONE a media tax directly from your paycheck since "everyone pirates".
I don't disagree that the entire video game industry treats their customer base like shit, but I do take exception to your intended solution as it's NOT going to make things better.
Having proof of legal purchase of the software is all I would need to be able to dismiss any claims on the part of Blizzard. Au contraire.... I simply came up with a solution that will hopefully (I've very little experience with using cracked .exes... I hate doing it because it's unreliable and stupid overall) allow me to play the game offline as it should be. I'm still not sure if I'd have to actually log into Bnet to get the software initiated or not... I have a feeling that the crcked .exe would need to run... christ, I actually have no idea how it'd work.
Hopefully, in the next 2-3 years, after the GOTYE (with all 3 Races worth of SP Campaigns) surfaces, Blizzard will have pulled their heads out of their asses and fixed it by then... or if not, hopefully the cracks will be perfectly refined so Gamers can play Starcraft II in free, and legally purchased peace and quiet.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback has only generic teams and players though, since EA has NFL exclusivity now. The game plays the same, but...eh, it just isn't. I need to have the Houston Oilers, 75-yard Gil Fenerty kickoff returns, Christian Okoye making popcorn, Don Majkowski-to-Sterling Sharpe TD connections, Thurman Thomas running all over the league, and 127 sack seasons from Lawrence Taylor.
Tecmo Super Bowl is the only football game I've ever needed. If they kept putting out the same TSB game every year with different rosters, a la Madden, I'd be happy. I've done a roster hack myself. I only wish it tracked more stats, allowed "wildcat" substitutions, and allowed you to do things like rush the punter (I think the 16-bit version has this) and trick plays.
Are you serious? That is too queer for words. I just watched a few seconds of the gameplay footage and it looked aweeeeesome... until I read your post. Why did they waste their time to make a Sports game with Generic teams and players... in 2012... are they serious... they need to gtfo of lala land and come back to reality.
If it's priced at $5, then I can understand... if they want $10 or more, they can rightfully piss off.

I've never really heard that said before. I've played hundreds of hours each of Morrowind and Oblivion and quite a bit of Skyrim. Each of those games is a unique experience both graphically and gameplay-wise. I would contend that the graphics move forward and the gameplay elements move backwards but mainstream players probably don't feel that way. Anyway, Skyrim looks very different compared to Oblivion. I really don't see how someone can feel those games look identical.
I've probably got close to 300 or more hours invested my ESIII character that I've been playing off and on since '07... less than 20 put into IV. From what I've seen of V, it looks extremely similar to IV... nothing like the jump from III to IV imho.
1. Same Time Period/Setting
2. Same Weapons/Monsters
3. Same Mindset overall
4. Same 'type' of Stories/Quest I would imagine
I could add more, but I've other things to do... those are the main similarities I noticed from watching mere minutes of Vs' footage.

I don't use Cloud Services. If you aren't paying, you're the product, fyi... AustinAnd I should care because....?
He didn't say you should care. He's explaining why he cared.
Yup, thank you Mord for spelling it out for mr. Austin.

The best racing game of all time was not ported to the Xbox 360 properly (5fps when it rains is a joke!) and not even released on the PS3!! Now Criterion have decided to do their own version of Need For Speed : Most Wanted!.
Strongly disagree... I would never call an Arcade Racer the best of the Racing Genre... but that's just my opinion.
For me:
1. Gran Turismo 3 (haven't had a chance to jump into 4 yet... looks even more dominant than 3 is)
2. Forza 3
3. Test Drive Unlimited (PC)
4. Flatout (PC)
there's so many other amazing Racers to choose from... it's a tough call for said Genre

I wish I had time to play my mobile systems... last one I played on the DS was Mario Karts (amazing), and the first Mario game (my wife made me open it)
on the 3DS (amaaaazing). -
Vultures will do whatever it takes to survive and thrive. Either combat them, succumb to them, or become one of them... try not, do or do not, there is no try.

I can see why it's free...

The Deal of the Day on Amazon is Mass Effect 2..... $39.99 plus free shipping.
Mendon

I paid $20-30 for the black label (PS3) back around Fall of last year... $40 today... yikes, has it gone up?

All that work versus simply inserting a disc.... and playing said game
Why would anyone go through such hell to play a game?
Am I missing something?

One thing that sony is doing right is to let you use off the shelf parts / peripherals, like controllers, hard drives.
Try that on XBOX.
(right on)
If everyone would have simply boycotted M. when they first released the 360.... M. would have had to change their policy at a huge financial loss, and they would not have attempted such silly policies again. Too bad everyone supported them regardless.
The power to change policies and shape companies is within the grasp of the Consumer... if they would only decide to use said power, how amazing things would be for the consumer in the end is anyones guess.

Oblivion?
I was joking... V and IV look almost identical.

I instantly skipped forward to 00:55... and watched it to 00:58

If it isn't custom, then it's mass produced... which means, it's not unique... which means... it's not cool.

Also, we might claim rights to some or all of your data if we see fit for any number of reasons. These policies can change at any time with or without notification to you, the customer."

Your Collection is beyond impressive... if you don't mind me asking, how long have you been Collecting Atari?
I looooove that 'vault' looking Case/Shelf you have most of your stuff in... looks sooo slick and 'store/museum' like.
